Adrian was in the guest room offered to him by Nolan earlier.

The room was quiet and spacious, furnished modestly yet comfortably, the kind of chamber reserved for honored guests.

“That’s important, but more than that…”

His eyes searched hers for a brief moment before he asked,

“Are things back to normal between you two?”

Elana’s lips faintly curved as she nodded.

“Yes, sir… mom was guilty for what she said, and I also didn’t drag things for long. I could tell that she didn’t mean what she said… just as you guessed.”

Adrian nodded.

“I knew that. This might be the first time I met her, but I could tell that your whole family cares a lot about you.”

Elena remained silent.

Her gaze lowered slowly, and after a brief pause she stepped forward, closing the distance between them.

The quiet room seemed to grow even more still as she approached.

“Professor,” she said once she stood quite close to him.

Her voice was softer now.

“Did you tell anyone about how you suppressed the curse?”

Adrian was taken aback by the question. “No… not until now.”

Elana looked up at him and said, “But at some point you might have to tell them, right? I have been marked by the Professor. Now I can’t marry anyone but you, Adrian.”

Adrian couldn’t believe that a younger girl could make his heart this restless.

Coughing lightly, he scolded her, “Don’t call your teacher by name.”

Elana suddenly held his wrist, her skin cold but her pulse vivid. “But right now… you are just my companion. We aren’t at the academy. And besides, my parents have already guessed my feelings for you… so wouldn’t it be fine if I spend the night here?”

Adrian stiffened at those words. He looked into her eyes. There was clear amusement in them, but a faint hope as well.

In the end, all he could say was, “Don’t make hasty decisions. You are young and still have a lot to see in life.”

Elana giggled when she noticed how her Professor’s cheeks had turned red, though her own face felt quite warm as well.

She stepped away from him, her hands crossed behind her back as she began to leave.

“Despite how long the path is, and despite how many people I meet,” she said softly, “I know I will reach the destination I desire in the end.”

Her smile widened, her eyes curving as she confessed,

“And that destination is you, Adrian.”
