“There’s nothing in this world I love more. Nothing anybody loves more.”

Mikey absorbed that. He wasn’t sure if she was being entirely serious or if there was something underneath that statement— but he was sure that was bad as it sounded, he was definitely in the same line with her, he was a gold digger too.

“I mean…” he started, rubbing the back of his neck.

“I guess I like money too.”

“Do you?” she mused, tilting her head as though she was genuinely astonished by his words.

“But you don’t have any. How can you love something you’ve never truly had?”

Mikey nearly scoffed, the insult stinging his pride, but thankfully, his deceptive instincts were still sharp. He knew when to speak, when to act, and when to hold back. Instead of snapping, he forced a half-smile, slipping effortlessly into the role, playing along like a seasoned actor.

“I watch a lot of reality TV.” he said dryly.

“I get the general idea.”

His words only made her laugh again, though this time, it was a lower, richer sound.

Pausing her banter, she took a moment and studied him, plainly inspecting his build from head to toe, and for the first time, there was something in her gaze beyond amusement.

Then, she leaned forward, her voice dropping to a near whisper.

“Well, let me give you some friendly advice then- Money will never bring you happiness. It’ll buy you everything else, but the happiness part? That’s never part of the package.”

Mikey frowned, and not just because he was expecting something way sexier to come out of her mouth. No, what really made him squint in disbelief was the sheer audacity of a rich person claiming that “money doesn’t buy happiness.”

‘Mmm…Does she really belive that? I mean that’s an obvious rich man’s lie, ’cause if money doesn’t buy happiness, then why did all the miserable people seem to be broke?’ He thought inwardly.

“I don’t get it.”

“Take it from me.” she muttered, rising from her seat, her breasts clapping softly with each other as she rose. Slowly, she crossed the space between them, the air shifting with each deliberate step.

Mikey’s breath hitched slightly, but he didn’t dare to flinch.

“I married a man who gave me everything.” she murmured, stopping just a foot away.

“He gave me money, status, security. A life most women would kill for. A life I thought I wanted.”

She reached out then, her fingers grazing his chest lightly, tracing a slow path downward.

“But you know what?” she whispered, her lips curving into something between a smirk and a secret.

“He gave me what I wanted, but never what I really needed.”

Mikey swallowed hard, his pulse quickening.

“And….w-what do you need?” he asked, his gaze fixed on hers.
