Chapter 103: The First Step of Revenge(2)
The scene was witnessed by the soldier who had just woken up.
His pupils trembled violently. His legs gave out, and he rolled straight off the bed. His mouth opened and closed several times, but the plea stuck in his throat, fear choking the words before they could form.
“Spare… spare me.”
He finally forced the words out.
The greatsword came down in a single stroke, cleaving his entire head apart. The chaotic sword aura shredded the bed behind him into splinters.
“The order… is to kill everyone.”
From a corrupted throat came a hoarse, barely intelligible murmur.
“Whee—whee—whee—!”
A shrill whistle alarm pierced the air outside.
The entire manor exploded into panic, like boiling water poured into a hornet’s nest. Guards scrambled to form ranks. Servants fled in terror, scattering in every direction.
A dying soldier had used his last strength to sound the alarm.
But it was too late.
Fifty greatsword warriors had already flooded into the manor, swiftly eliminating the most threatening ballistae and watch posts.
The greatsword warrior who had just killed the three men stepped out of the post and saw two of his kind drop to the ground floor, slowly pulling open the main gate.
“Break their formation! Don’t let them assemble!” Phield roared.
“Cavalry—charge!”
The next instant, Ashina led the demi-human cavalry crashing through the opened gates.
The thirty-odd soldiers who had just managed to form ranks were smashed apart immediately. The terrifying impact of the black wolves turned six of them directly into bloody mist. Corrupted greatsword warriors and cavalry surged forward, spears and blades reaping lives in a frenzy.
In almost an instant, the battle devolved into a brutal slaughter.
Whether manor guards or servants—anything alive, even a dog—collapsed into pools of blood.
The manor’s master, the knight Krauling, had been lingering with a maid when the thunder of killing erupted outside.
“What’s going on?”
“My lord, it seems someone has broken in,” a guard inside stammered, stealing nervous glances at his master. “Could it be those mountain bandits?”
“You’re asking me? Useless trash! With walls and still letting enemies in? I’ll hang every one of you!”
Krauling flew into a rage. Without even donning his armor, he grabbed an axe, cursing as he strode out.
“Dare cause trouble in my territory? Damn scum.”
“Follow me! Let them witness the strength of a second-tier knight!”
“Goddess above… is this hell?”
The guards opened the door—and froze.
The manor was utter chaos.
The air was thick with the stench of blood. The earlier cries and pleas had vanished, replaced by the sharp whistle of the cold wind. Corpses lay piled everywhere—even his prized hunting dogs had been slaughtered.
A black crow banner stood planted atop a heap of bodies, splattered blood adding an even more sinister hue.
“Who are you?”
Krauling felt his breath tighten. An oppressive terror crushed down on him.
Ashina smiled faintly. “Tell me everything you know—anything of value—and I’ll grant you a swift death.”
“Isn’t it a bit early to talk like that?” Krauling’s magic surged as he raised his axe before him.
Then he noticed—
More than twenty heavily armored greatsword warriors had already entered the hall, cutting off their retreat. Their two-handed blades gleamed coldly, each one infused with first-tier magic.
“All of them… magic soldiers? Impossible.”
Krauling was dumbstruck. Anyone who possessed magic could at least qualify as a knight.
What crime had he committed to be surrounded by so many magic soldiers?
Clearly, this was no band of mountain thieves.
This was a powerful regular army.
“Speak. Don’t make me repeat myself a third time.”
Retreat already forming in his mind, Krauling’s thoughts raced: They’re all magic soldiers—but I’m second-tier. If I can seize a warhorse, I can escape to Wind Orchid City for reinforcements.
He subtly shifted his footing while posturing aloud. “Do you know where you are? This is Ross family territory, governed by the noble Baron Adrian. Leave at once—or the Baron will not spare you!”
“If it’s Adrian’s land, then we’ve killed the right people.”
Every tiny movement fell into Ashina’s eyes. Seeing he had no intention of surrendering, her patience vanished.
“Clang!”
She thrust her spear casually. Vast divine power rippled outward as the cavalry lance shot forward with crushing force.
“So fast!”
To a knight, even a Divine Chosen’s casual strike was too swift for the naked eye.
Krauling’s pupils shrank. He dared not be careless. He mobilized all his magic, unleashing his peak strike.
A crisp clash of steel rang out. The floor beneath them shattered under the sudden pressure.
Krauling grunted and staggered back more than ten steps. The web between his thumb and forefinger split open. A thin stream of blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. The magic he had gathered was completely dispersed, his body thrown into chaos.
“I’ll talk! I’ll talk!”
Seeing the greatsword warriors closing in, Krauling hurriedly raised his hands in a placating gesture, forcing a flattering expression.
“Go on,” Ashina replied, watching his backward steps with amusement.
Sure enough—
The next moment Krauling detonated the magic within him, blasting the nearby greatsword warriors aside. He spun and bolted, crashing into a nearby building, intending to leap out the window and flee.
“Humans are so cunning.”
Ashina drew her bow.
A silver arrow shot straight as a beam of light. It pierced through the wall and shattered Krauling’s calf cleanly.
The world spun violently for him. Before he could even comprehend what had happened, his body tumbled across the ground like a ball.
“Ahhh! My leg!”
“Yes, humans are very cunning,” Phield said shamelessly as he guided the black crow to land on Ashina’s shoulder. “Except for me. I’m pure and immaculate—like a white lotus blooming in the swamp.”
“Mhm, my lord is the best.” Ashina’s wolf ears twitched. Whatever her lord said was right.
But toward enemies, she perfectly embodied the cruelty of the white wolf demi-humans.
“Black wolves, eat that knight bite by bite. I said before—only those who provide valuable information are spared torment.”
“A talking crow… you’re demons…” Several guards had already wet themselves. They lacked even the courage to stand, huddling together in terror.
Ashina flicked her tail lazily. “If you don’t want to be eaten piece by piece and sent to hell, say something useful. Oh—and you’ll speak separately. If what one of you says doesn’t match the others, he’ll be eaten too.”
Listening to Krauling’s agonized screams, the guards’ courage shattered completely. There was no need for torture. One by one, they knelt and spilled everything—what should be said and what shouldn’t.
They revealed the surrounding knights’ manors, hidden sentry posts, trade routes, and villages without reservation.
“Search the manor for all weapons, coin, and high-value items. Hide them in the nearby mountains. We need a small stronghold to stash the loot. And if the ballistae on the walls can be dismantled—take those too.”
Waste nothing. Leave nothing behind.
Phield spoke methodically. “As for the livestock—consider it your reward. No more rations. Eat meat. There’s more than enough.”
“Yay!” Ashina cheered, overjoyed.
“Next, we continue hiding by day and moving by night. Strike every place we can take. Kill those who must be killed. Take everything.”
Phield’s voice turned icy.
“It’s time to give Adrian… a small taste of raiding.”
If you’ve got the guts, come raid Nightfall Domain.
I’m fair. You’re welcome anytime.
Before long, entire chests of gold coins, jewelry, and magic potions were unearthed—the accumulated wealth of generations, enough to sustain such a large force of soldiers.
The entire night passed in cheerful plunder.
