Chapter 251: Reclaiming Our Homeland: The Battle of Starnight(4)
The great battle was about to erupt.
The twenty to thirty high-tier corrupted corpses beside the Corpse Lord roared in unison as the immense power within their bodies exploded forth.
Rosalia showed no fear at all. She turned her head and, almost mischievously, winked at Phield. “For every one I kill, you’ll be my mount for a day.”
“A mount… what kind of imagination is that…”
Phield nearly coughed up blood. Just moments ago she looked gloomy, and he had even worried she might be affected by the scene.
Turns out her mind was still full of absurd ideas.
With a domineering swing of her blade, the first corpse did not even brush her clothes before being split cleanly in half from head to toe. At the same time, the Greatsword of Gluttony extended countless chains, preventing enemies from bypassing her and attacking Phield directly.
Even so, two second-tier corpses managed to slip through the chain defense and lunged straight at Phield.
“Don’t get distracted. I’ll handle these two.”
Phield was long accustomed to battle.
Every swing of his weapon tore open vicious wounds, and the spraying blood hung in the air like a crimson curtain that refused to fall.
But for Rosalia, effortlessly slaughtering the corpses was far from easy.
Especially when third-tier corpses launched sudden attacks. They could not threaten her life, but eliminating them instantly was equally difficult.
An endless stream of corpses surged forward, throwing themselves at her one after another, draining her strength. Bone spikes rained down densely. Without her divine protection and formidable regeneration, an ordinary person would have been turned into a pincushion within seconds.
Facing the two incoming corpses, Phield advanced instead of retreating. He stepped forward and thrust his spear precisely into the throat of one.
With a violent twist, the corpse’s neck snapped like brittle sugarcane.
The other corpse’s heavy punch came from the right, carrying a howling gust of wind.
There was no time to dodge.
At the critical moment, Phield’s instincts exploded. He drove his elbow forward, colliding head-on with the monster’s fist.
A violent impact rang out.
The force transmitted through his armor, and Phield felt his bones creak. His right arm went numb, and his spear nearly slipped from his grasp.
“What insane strength.”
He cursed, drew the sword at his waist with his left hand, and infused it with powerful magic before stabbing viciously into the monster’s abdomen. The crazed creature kicked and struck wildly.
Enduring the pain, Phield forced all his strength into the hilt. The sickening sensation of metal tearing through flesh followed, and the corpse was ripped open.
He kicked the struggling corpse to the ground and stepped forward to finish it off.
“Ha… ha…”
Before he could even catch his breath, more roars erupted behind him. Another wave of corpses surged out from the gray mist.
Phield leveled his spear and sword, gritting his teeth. “My magic is still abundant. If I share some of the pressure with the Divine Chosen, our chances improve.”
He was about to strike again.
“Leave it to me. Don’t underestimate me.”
A cold chain wrapped around his waist, yanking him backward. He crossed paths with Rosalia as she pulled him away, giving him an elegant smile.
“Second-tier divine technique, Endless Severance!”
Layer upon layer of sword energy swept outward. Phield did not even have time to see the results. All he heard were chaotic slicing sounds and the distant collapse of buildings.
When he looked again, most of the high-tier corpses were already dead. Twisted limbs littered the ground.
Only five remained, still struggling, their bodies riddled with sword wounds.
“Efficient.”
Phield immediately circulated his magic. “Myriad Waves!”
The radiant spear smashed forward with overwhelming force, striking a third-tier corpse that had already been severed at the waist and blowing its chest apart.
The corpse let out two pitiful cries before going still.
“Does this count as fighting above my tier?”
Phield steadied himself, preparing to eliminate the remaining enemies, when a heavily wounded bat banshee suddenly crashed down in front of him.
“My apologies, my lord. I was a bit late with support.”
Tisiana had dealt with the aerial forces and rushed over immediately. Several cuts marked her body, but her spirit remained strong.
“Aerial combat is exhausting. They dart around like flies. Very troublesome.”
“It’s fine. As long as they’re dealt with.”
She looked around at the vast number of fallen corpses, shock filling her expression. No wonder he could survive so long in the Nightfall Domain. How did he even convince Rosalia to join him?
“Don’t zone out. Watch for ambushes.”
Seeing her distracted, Phield reminded her at once.
“Oh, right!”
She immediately raised her blade and joined him in cutting down the remaining corpses.
Together, they swiftly eliminated the last of the high-tier enemies. At the same time, Rosalia finished off the newly emerged wave of lesser corpses.
“Tisiana, help Alice deal with the corrupted hound. Rosalia, go assist Ashina. It’s time to finish this.”
The corrupted lord Chica had been locked in a prolonged clash with Ashina, neither side able to gain the upper hand. Suddenly sensing something wrong, he broke away and attempted to reinforce his subordinates.
When he turned and saw Rosalia and Phield approaching, he froze for a moment.
The expression clearly said, where the hell are my troops?
His gaze shifted past Phield, only to see corpses strewn everywhere. The high-tier forces he had painstakingly cultivated were completely wiped out. And the culprit was the man controlling Rosalia.
“You deserve to die!” Chica roared.
Phield remained unfazed. “Worry about yourself first.”
“Do not think a corrupted territory is meaningless.”
“The power of corruption shall serve me!”
As he spoke, countless streams of gray-white energy surged from the ground, converging into Chica like a galaxy flowing into a river.
“As expected, once the land is corrupted, its nature changes completely, yet it can still provide energy.”
Phield drew in a sharp breath.
The three foundations of territorial power were The Heavens’ Will, the fortune of the land, and life itself. This was also the source of a Divine Chosen’s strength.
Yet this corrupted lord could also harness the power of the land.
Chica’s aura surged violently. The overwhelming energy erupting from within him blasted the stone pavement into the air.
Like a speeding train, he charged forward with crushing force, cracking the ground beneath him.
“You will not harm my lord.”
Ashina’s wolf ears twitched as her heart pounded. The enemy before her was unleashing even greater power.
“Black Wolf, stop him.”
Drakewolf instantly transformed into a blur, rushing to block Chica’s path. Its claws scraped against the ground, throwing up sparks as it moved at high speed.
Dragon energy surged through its body. It stood like a blazing tank, cutting across the battlefield.
A low hum echoed.
Chica threw a simple punch.
The explosive impact shook the sky, sending waves of energy rippling outward. Drakewolf was blasted backward.
Blood mist burst from its body. Shattered scales flew everywhere. The sharp, heavy black fragments spun like blades, killing several approaching corpses outright.
Since its evolution, this was the first time Phield had seen Drakewolf’s defense broken.
“So strong. But I came prepared.”
He had not acted recklessly.
The violent wind made Phield’s skin prickle, yet there was no fear in his eyes. Instead, he looked at Rosalia with a trace of concern and sighed.
“Rosalia, it’s up to you now.”
“Leave it to me. A little pain means nothing.”
A faint smile curved Rosalia’s lips. The chains of the Greatsword of Gluttony retracted tightly around her, their barbed ends writhing like steel serpents.
“Defending again? I thought you would fight to the death.” Chica tore open his cheek, laughing madly. “Rosalia, my niece, after being contracted by a human, you’ve become weak. You rely on strategy now. That is wrong. Corrupted beings should abandon defense and attack endlessly. Attack!”
“Oh? Who said I’m defending?”
Rosalia’s star-like eyes burned with madness.
“Let me show you the elegance of Crimson Ascendancy.”
As she spoke, the barbed ends of the chains drove straight into her neck, heart, and other vital points.
“What the hell?” Even Chica was shocked. “What are you doing…”
Before he could finish, he instinctively sensed it. The aura of the Divine Chosen before him was rising at an explosive rate. A thick, bloody scent surged into the sky.
“Second-tier divine technique, Crimson Ascendancy!”
The more severe the damage she suffered, the greater her physical enhancement.
Rosalia slowly raised her head, her cold gaze settling indifferently on the old monster before her.
