She walked up and stood before her father, adopting the posture of someone ready to accept her punishment. Her tone, however, held a pleading, almost childish charm.

“Dad, it’s all my fault. I never should have been so impulsive, running away to the U.S.A. with Carter Shaw. I should have understood how much you loved me and worried about me. Even if I was determined to marry him, I should have talked it over with you calmly instead of just leaving. Dad, I was young and foolish. Please, forgive me!”

Theodore Quinn’s expression didn’t soften, but at least he didn’t tell her to leave again. Jenna Quinn slowly knelt, wrapping her hand around his arm and leaning in close. “Dad, I know you’ve always doted on me, your only daughter. You’ll forgive me, right?”

Theodore Quinn finally turned his head and shot her a sidelong glance. Jenna was his firstborn and the only girl among his three children. Naturally, he treasured her more than the others.

He remembered. Before the incident five years ago, Jenna would often be just like this—clinging to his arm, leaning against him, and whispering sweet or pleading words in his ear.

And in those moments, he would shed his stern and rigid demeanor and playfully banter with his daughter, a wide smile on his face.

As he recalled those warm moments from the past, Theodore Quinn’s gaze couldn’t help but soften.

His daughter was, after all, the apple of his eye. He wouldn’t admit it, but what Sienna had said earlier—about him losing sleep at night from missing her—was the truth.

Perhaps it was because he was getting older, or perhaps it was because they had been separated for so long, but lately, he had been missing her more and more. In his heart, he had forgiven her long ago.

But now, in front of his family and a room full of servants, he had to at least pretend to be stern.

So, with that in mind, he let out a cold snort and gave Jenna Quinn a push. It was a weak, token gesture.

“How did you know that?”

“How could I not know? I also know the intended bride is the Grant Family’s young lady, Chloe Grant.” For the first time, Jenna’s expression turned serious. “Mom, Dad, I don’t think Chloe Grant and Seth are a good match. Or rather, I should say she isn’t the best choice for him.”
