That was the one question Roxy realized she hadn’t asked.

Among the many other questions of how it was possible to be pulled completely into another world without dying.

Overwhelmed by their warm words, Roxy sobbed silently, and her mates all listened.

They waited so she could relieve all the sorrows she locked deep within her.

Roxy couldn’t believe the gods knew her more than she knew herself.

They were correct that she indeed became numb, and the only thing that could make her feel alive was having sex, reading smut, and chasing height from her numerous toys.

She didn’t seek out money from it.

She just chased the height of euphoria from being used over and over again.

Wasn’t that what her parents taught her?

Dress up, be pretty, and presentable for any man that comes your way.

Roxy suddenly ground her teeth, and her eyes turned cold and dead, and I hope they are both dead, killed in the most horrific way.

A child shouldn’t hate her parents this way, but Roxy wasn’t a child anymore; she was never a child to her parents, just a tool for their blind greed.

Roxy let out a shaky exhale, finally calming herself, knowing that the System had indeed brought color to her grey world.

Doesn’t mean you are not a bitch for doing what you did.

Everywhere was silent, save for their heavy breathing.

Everyone silently took in her words with their wait, and Roxy began to think, ’Was I too much to share?’

Zarek was the first to break it.

The Dragon King shifted. He pressed closer, his pheromones turning thicker, which was almost painful to inhale, seeking to seep into Roxy’s bones and burn out the cold memories she had just unearthed.

His large hand moved from her waist to the back of her neck, his thumb stroking the sensitive skin there.

Roxy groaned from his fingers. He didn’t touch her with desire, nor did she feel desire with it, only relief.

“I cannot change what happened to you in the past,” Zarek rumbled, his voice sounding like grinding stones deep underground. “And I cannot tear apart those people who hurt you. If I could, I would fly across the stars to this… ’Earth’… I would turn every city to ash for what they did to you.”

A laugh bubbled from Roxy’s throat. Her cries were forgotten.

He lowered his head, pressing his forehead against her temple.

“But I can promise you this, my Queen. The word ’pain’ will be erased from your tongue. In this life, in this world, hands are for holding, not striking. You will never flinch again. Not while there is breath in my lungs and fire in my blood.”

Roxy let out a shaky breath, closing her eyes as his words washed over her.

“Zarek is right,” Kaelen whispered from the foot of the bed.

The Wolf King crawled up the mattress, ignoring the growl of the Tiger he crowded. He rested his chin on Roxy’s knee, looking up at her with eyes with warmth.

As if that was the only thing he could give her, pools of love rippled in his eyes.

“We are not good with pretty words,” Kaelen admitted hoarsely. “We are beasts. We hunt. We kill. But we build nests for what we cherish. You say you are a broken vessel? Then we will be the gold that fills the cracks. We will be the walls that keep the wind out. You will never know the cold again.”

Syris buried his face deeper into the crook of her neck.

“Human males are… defective,” the Basilisk hissed softly, his voice trembling with a rare vulnerability. “To break the thing that gives life… doesn’t make any sense. It is madness. I will study every day to ensure you are whole. I will serve you until your memories of them are nothing but dust.”

Torian didn’t speak immediately. He just tightened his hold on her waist, his claws sheathed but pressing firmly into her side as if to physically anchor her to the bed.

To him.

Because why did he think his female was strong?

Of course, she was, but strong from all the wounds. How many times has her tiny heart broken?

“Tell us,” Torian finally murmured, his voice subdued. “This world you came from… how did you leave it? How did the Gods bless us by dropping you into our world?”

Even I don’t know, Rian…

Roxy opened her eyes. She looked at the ceiling above her. She couldn’t tell them about the System, or the fact that she was technically a transmigrator playing a survival game. It was too much.

She didn’t want to explain.

She smiled, a sad, soft curving of her lips.

“I think…” she whispered. “I think the Universe realized it owed me a favor. I was pulled here. And when I opened my eyes, I was here. With a pig chasing me down to eat me.”

She looked at them: the Dragon, the Wolf, the Snake, and the Tiger.

“You ask how I blessed you,” Roxy said, reaching out to touch Zarek’s cheek. “But you have it backwards. I was the empty one. You guys… You filled me up. You gave me a home. You gave me children. You are my blessings.”

The air in the room shifted. The heavy, murderous rage dissipated, replaced by a profound, glowing warmth.

Torian let out a whimper. He shifted, pulling himself up until he was hovering over her, supporting his weight on his elbows so he didn’t crush the others.

He looked down at her, his blue eyes with regret.

“I am sorry,” Torian whispered.

Roxy blinked. “Sorry for what, Rian?”

“For how I came to you,” Torian admitted, his head drooping low. “I wanted you and made you feel unsafe. I forced the bond because I was arrogant. I acted like… like those men. Like I owned you.”

He looked horrified by the realization.

“I thought I was a King claiming a prize,” he said, his voice thick. “But I was just a brute scaring a woman who had already been scared enough.”

I was barely scared.

Roxy looked at him. She remembered the early days, the fear, the confusion. But she also remembered him changing. She remembered him learning to ask. She remembered how warm he had turned to be, leaving his whole kingdom to follow her.

At least he finally realized what he did wrong.

She reached up and flicked his nose.

“Ow,” Torian blinked, his eyes turning into slits.

“You were a brute,” Roxy agreed softly. “But you learned. It’s in the past now, and…”

She smirked, lightening the mood.

“You’ve been punished enough. You spent weeks watching the others touch me while you had little time to spend with me. You worked for your spot in this bed. I’d say debt paid.”

Torian let out a massive sigh of relief, collapsing his forehead onto her shoulder. “I was such a fool. From this day onward, I would provide you with gold that could fill the house.”

All of them burst out laughing.

For the next hour, they didn’t sleep. They lay in a tangle of limbs, talking in hushed tones. They gossiped about the wolf pack, who was mating with whom, which elder was grumpy, and how funny it was that Ven was currently in orbit.

They talked about baby names. They talked about the coin system. They talked about nothing and everything, knitting their family together with words instead of trauma.

Eventually, they all fell asleep.

Roxy’s answers became shorter. Her eyelids grew heavy. The warmth of the pile—the “cuddle puddle,” as she called it in her head—lulled her into a deep, dreamless sleep.

She fell asleep surrounded by monsters, and for the first time in her life, she wasn’t afraid of the dreams and memories that began to hunt her.

The next morning, they woke up to the sound of banging coming from the door.

The shouting was coming from the front porch. It was accompanied by the sound of scuffling feet and what sounded distinctly like a goat screaming.

Roxy groaned, trying to roll over.

She couldn’t.

She was pinned. Zarek’s arm was heavy across her chest. Torian’s leg was thrown over her thighs. Syris was practically coiled around her left side. And Kaelen was using her stomach as a pillow.

“Mmph,” Roxy mumbled, her face smushed into Zarek’s pec. “What is that?”

The banging continued. And the others stirred awake, grumbling.

“Make it stop,” Roxy whined, pulling a pillow over her head. “Kaelen… you’re the Alpha… go check.”

Kaelen groaned, lifting his head from her stomach. His hair was a mess, sticking up in every direction. He wiped drool from the corner of his mouth.

He untangled himself from the pile, sliding off the bed. He grabbed his trousers from the floor, pulled them on.

“Stay,” Kaelen commanded the others. “I will handle it quietly.”

He stomped out of the bedroom, closing the door. Roxy lay there, trying to get back the sleep that was stolen from her, before the bedroom door opened again.

Kaelen walked back and ran a hand through his messy hair.

“Well?” Zarek asked, propping himself up on an elbow. “What happened?”

“A wolf wants to know how much….” Kaelen sighed, looking defeated. “He is trying to sell his brother for more gold coins.”
