Chapter 229: Killing The Broodmother
[AN: Sorry for the previous error. All mistakes have been corrected.]
*******
Bang! Bang!
Dozens of undead Jackal beastmen attacked the Arachnes coming out of the broodmother. The broodmother was like a one creature army.
She could spawn many Arachnes to fight her battle. Against an ordinary awakener, the broodmother was a terrifying foe to encounter, but now her enemy was Thoren.
He was an unconventional necromancer.
Just as the broodmother was spawning more Arachnes, he also summoned more undead servants out of his undead space.
As for Thoren, he did not have to worry about nutrition or energy. He only had to open his undead space, and his undead minions would troop out.
Quickly, the broodmother nest was crawling with dozens of undead servants attacking the Arachnes.
Screech! Screech!
While the weaker undead were dealing with the spawned Arachnes, Thoren had his elite undead legion attack the broodmother.
The battle erupted into a storm of claws, fangs, and rusted blades. One undead Jackal beastman lunged at am Arachnes, swinging it crudely made saber.
The arachne hissed and spun around, driving a sharp leg into the undead’s ribcage. However, the undead Jackal Beastman did not flink and only raised its weapon once again and delivered a killing strike.
Bang!
The Arachnes’ head was severed from her body.
The broodmother screeched. Its massive four eyes glared at all the undead servants attacking her and children. She tried to respond, but her movement was too slow.
With her solid defense, she had not sustained any life threatening injuries. However, Thoren was in no hurry. He already had the time to attack the broodmother.
Bang!
The undead Royalty Stonewall struck the Black Ember blade against one of the broodmother’s legs. The blade bounced off, leaving a shallow cut. Sparks flew from the impact.
The broodmother did not even flinch.
Seeing this, Thoren could not help but crease his brow.
’I guess the Peak Iron Grade weapon is becoming ineffective,’ he mused, frowning.
Against a sharper weapon, defense means nothing.
Since even a Peak Iron Grade weapon could not bypass the broodmother’s insane defense, Thoren did not have any hope for his undead wielding crude weapons.
’I need to find a way to earn money…’ His determination to earn more increased once again.
If he had equipped his elite undead with powerful weapons, he would not have struggled against such a slow target. The battle would have been over before it even started.
“As long as I kill it, I can mine the crystal…” He raised his head, and his eyes blazed with determination.
Suddenly, the broodmother began to spread layered web silk around her. The rate at which she generated the silk web was terrifyingly fast.
In a blink, the ground was full of thick, strong web silk. The silk spread on the ground like an ocean wave.
To avoid the silk, Thoren commanded his undead to jump over it, but that was a mistake.
The moment his undead stepped on the silk, their movement slowed down.
They became sluggish. Their limbs dragged as if wading through deep mud. One undead servant tried to lift its sword, but the silk wrapped around its wrist, holding it in place.
Another undead beast strained forward, its claws skidding uselessly against the sticky strands.
The Arachnes, however, moved freely. They skated across the silk with terrible grace, their pointed legs finding purchase where the undead found only frustration.
“What is this?” Thoren asked as he creased his brow.
Bang! Bang!
Before he could find out what was going on, a powerful web attack erupted from the ground, sending a few unfortunate undead servants flying.
The silk eruption did not stop. It erupted from everywhere inside the silk world.
Many undead servants were sent flying. Their heads shattered into smithereens. One undead soldier crashed against the cavern wall, its skull bursting like a dropped melon.
Another was launched high into the air, its body spinning before it hit the ground with a wet crunch.
Some had their chests ripped apart, their upper bodies separated from their lower bodies.
A third undead simply dissolved where it stood, the silk tearing through its brittle bones like a hundred whips.
For a moment, Thoren could not understand what was going on. He was losing undead servants every second.
He tried to have his undead avoid the silk attack, but that was impossible. The silk attack appeared randomly. One eruption came from the left, shredding three Jackal beastmen.
Another came from the right, tangling a group of undead servants before crushing them flat.
’I cannot allow this to go on…’ He thought as his brain worked at top speed, trying to salvage the situation.
Suddenly, a thought appeared in his mind.
“Let me see how you react against this,” he sneered and opened his undead space.
From the undead space, five undead humans stepped forth. What was common among them was that they all held staff.
The undead mages raised their arms in unison, their jawbones clattering as they chanted a silent spell.
The broodmother did not care about what the humans before her would do as she continued to release her children and silk.
To her, as long as she provided enough silk to attack her enemy, her children would finish the work.
Just then, a whistling sound came rushing toward her.
What was that?
Slowly, she turned her massive head only to see a ball of flame flying toward her.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Hiss! Hiss! Hiss!
Flame after flame descended on her head one after another. She cried in pain. Although the flame attacks were too weak to kill or injure her, fire was one of her weaknesses.
She cried continuously as she tried to use her silk to stop the flame attacks. But the silk burned. The moment her own web touched the fire, it shriveled and turned to ash.
Thud! Thud!
To avoid the flames, she was forced to take a couple of slow steps back. Each step shook the ground. Cracks spread across the stone floor.
Distracted, her silk attack stopped, allowing the undead servants to regain their movement.
Seeing that his plan was working, Thoren could not help but smile.
’Kill!’
With the broodmother distracted by the continuous flame attacks, Thoren commanded his undead servants to target her massive belly.
The undead Storm Tyrant and the undead Elite Jackal Beastman rushed forward, sending all the smaller Arachnes before them flying.
The Storm Tyrant swung its hammer in a wide arc, crushing three Arachnes into paste while the undead Elite Jackal Beastman club was not any slower.
The Arachnes were sent flying from whence they came from.
[Awakened Soul activated.]
Thoren released his awakened soul power to the fullest, pressing down on both the broodmother and the Arachnes.
’Chain Combo,’ he gave the mental command.
The undead Storm Tyrant seemed to grow stronger. Its muscles bulged, and the aura around it changed.
Dark energy coiled around its arms like living snakes. It raised the massive hammer above its head and let it descend.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The hammer flurry attack landed on the broodmother’s belly, and a powerful vibration spread throughout her body.
Ahhhh!
The broodmother, who was still trying desperately to defend against the flame attack, felt a sudden sharp pain in her belly.
She wailed and retreated, trying to escape from the attack. But how could Thoren let her go?
The undead Storm Tyrant followed up with another chain attack.
With the broodmother’s defense halved, the barrage of attacks had injured her.
Blood splattered to the ground, flowing like a small stream. Still, the broodmother was far from falling.
She tried to attack with one of her legs, but the flame attack landed on her face.
Hiss!
Her face was scorched black.
Bang!
The undead Elite Jackal Beastman, who had been waiting for a chance to strike, finally found his opportunity and swung his club.
Boom!
The club smashed into her chest, sending the broodmother retreating with trembling legs.
Just as she retreated, she failed to see one of the undead lying in wait.
More importantly, the undead Royalty Stonewall was standing at the top of a massive undead Cobra.
While the broodmother was concentrating on the battle, Thoren was already laying his trap.
When Thoren realized his undead servants’ weapons were useless against the broodmother, he decided to target her weak spot instead.
That weak spot included her upper body. To reach her upper body, he needed to distract her and make her feel threatened by him.
Thus, the primary target remained close to the ground.
He chose the massive belly.
With her belly under attack, all of her attention became focused on it. Additionally, the harassment from the flame attacks continued without pause.
She had no time to care about her surroundings. She was being overwhelmed from every angle.
And this was Thoren’s plan.
Whoosh!!
The undead Royalty Stonewall leaped off from the undead Cobra’s top toward the Broodmother’s back.
Bang!
It landed behind her back and, without hesitation, struck.
The Black Ember Blade flashed with deadly light as it cleaved into the Broodmother’s defenseless back.
Ahhhhhhhh!
A sharp, soul rending scream escaped from the Broodmother. Blood splattered out of her mouth.
Her four eyes turned blood red.
Before she could even rid herself of the pain from her back, the undead Storm Tyrant and the undead Elite Jackal Beastman struck simultaneously.
One attacked her chest, and the other struck her massive belly.
Ahhhhh!
Behind her, the undead Royalty Stonewall was not idle.
Strike after strike descended upon the Broodmother.
The Broodmother screamed in agony. Her steps lost their grip on the ground.
She fell to the floor, trying desperately to get back up, but how could her enemies allow her to rise? She tried to launch an attack with her silk, but the assault from the undead Storm Tyrant and the undead Elite Jackal Beastman made that impossible.
She wailed miserably.
She swung her massive leg, but her effort was futile.
She was too slow and too heavy.
More importantly, she was being attacked from three different directions. It was impossible to block or defend against all of them.
On her back, her blood flowed like a stream.
Various deep cuts appeared on her back. Her bones became visible, but the Black Ember Blade could not cut through them.
This was enough to prove her terrifying defense and her strong vitality. Watching the battle, Thoren could not help but sigh.
Once again, he was reminded of how weak and useless his undead servants truly were.
He did not dwell on that thought for long, because his eyes could not help but wander to the glowing crystal and the corner of his lips curled upward.
As for the Broodmother, her struggles diminished with each passing second. Her belly had been smashed into paste.
Her chest was in no better condition.
Mangled flesh was scattered everywhere.
After a couple of seconds, the Broodmother’s wails began to fade. Gradually, they stopped completely.
Dead.
