Chapter 162: End of a Bloodline
I fell asleep as soon as I touched the bed; it was comfier than I expected.
It really was like cloud nine. Come to think of it, every bed I’ve lain on since coming to this world has been unbelievably soft. Even just trying to get up feels like a battle.
But onto more important things…
Evelina really adapted quickly to the soul merging, huh? Then again, considering she’s literally the same person, just with three souls combined, it makes sense.
All the answers she needed were already inside her. As for her jealousy, even she’d probably admit it would be hard to feel jealous of herself now.
Still…
Even though I’m saying that, it still feels unbelievable.
Not just Fiona, but also Trish… all of them are now in one body. In Evelina’s body.
That complicates things, especially after…
[Photographic Memory]
So it works now, huh?
Especially after what happened in Beijing.
But if she’s not making a scene out of it, then I’ll do my best to do the same. If she doesn’t seem to mind, I’ll just ignore it. Ignorance is bliss, after all.
I opened my eyes.
“How are you feeling, Lord Cael?”
A male doctor stood by the side of my bed, checking off what looked like a long list of conditions.
I tried to sneak a peek, and it seemed I was in perfect condition. Nothing bad had been noted, aside from the normal wounds and mental exhaustion you’d expect after a fight.
“I’m feeling fine.”
“Good to know.” The doctor nodded, though I could tell his mind was elsewhere—probably on my magic. She had just teleported me out of nowhere, and they’d almost certainly seen my black flames.
And even if they asked, I couldn’t give them a straight answer. I had no idea myself.
“Where did Evelina go?”
“That’s classified information, my lord.”
“Doesn’t want me interfering, huh?”
The doctor nodded at my remark, then placed a pack of pills on the desk beside me.
“Take these at least twice a week whenever you’re feeling unwell, physically or mentally,” he said before leaving.
I sat up in bed, picked up the pills he’d left, and read the label.
“Mind Hues?”
I’d heard the name in passing during my childhood. Apparently, it was meant to help with mental deterioration and its physical side effects, mostly prescribed to people with trauma or unnatural brain patterns.
This world’s technology really is a mixed bag.
But I guess that’s what makes it interesting.
“Guess I’ll just train my new attunement while she does her thing.”
*** Whitestrake Estate – Third Person POV
The battle was already over. The entire mansion was now nothing more than a ruin of its former self. Parts of the ceiling had collapsed, thin rays of light piercing through and stretching across the many dead bodies around her.
“Y-You… why? Why do this? If you really are Fiona, why didn’t you just wait if you hated everything about us? Wait until you became family head and change whatever you hated then? Why… do this?”
Yngvield lay crippled on the floor, all feeling gone from his four limbs as he stared up at the chandelier still hanging above him.
He had lost, and badly. It felt like he had fought three people at once; even his experience as a war veteran paled in comparison. This… Fiona… she was a beast in every way.
“You ask why?”
Fiona crouched beside him, her smile never leaving her face.
“Well… I’d be, like, thirty when that happens. A girl can’t wait that long, can she?”
“Y-You’re a maniac…”
“Why, thank you!”
Fiona giggled, then looked up at the chandelier.
“Well… I’m bored of you now. See you in hell.”
Her gaze returned to Yngvield as she waved him off, her other hand slicing horizontally through the air. Her magic responded at once, mimicking the motion on the chandelier’s chains.
SLASH!
“Bye!”
Fiona took a few steps back.
BANG!
She narrowly avoided the chandelier as it crashed down, crushing her grandfather.
Now… that only left one more variable she had to deal with.
Her mother.
As for her father? He had likely already died at the hands of the kill squad sent to Jenhall. Exactly one problem remained.
“F-Fiona…”
Her mother’s voice trembled.
Fiona slowly turned toward her.
Penny Whitestrake stood near the far end of the ruined hall, one hand clutching the edge of a broken table to keep herself upright. Her clothes were stained with dust and blood—not her own, but close enough.
For a moment, neither of them moved.
Fiona tilted her head. “Huh. You’re still alive.”
Penny flinched slightly—not at the words, but at the way Fiona said them, like someone noticing a misplaced object rather than a person.
“I… I didn’t think you’d really do it…” Penny whispered. “All of this…”
Fiona glanced around the hall—bodies everywhere, collapsed pillars, blood running between the cracks of the marble floor.
“Oh.” She shrugged. “This?”
Her foot nudged a severed arm absentmindedly.
“I’ve been wanting to do this for years.”
Penny’s breathing grew uneven.
“You’re not… my daughter…”
Fiona blinked, then laughed.
“Wow, that’s harsh.”
She walked closer, stepping carefully over the debris as if navigating a messy room rather than a battlefield.
“You’re the one who raised me like this.”
Penny shook her head weakly.
“No… Fiona was kind… she wouldn’t…”
“Kind?”
Fiona stopped a few steps away. For the first time since entering the hall, her smile faded slightly.
“She was.”
Her eyes flickered faintly—violet and crimson shifting together.
“But being kind didn’t really work out for her, did it?”
Penny’s fingers tightened around the table edge.
“You could still stop… the guards, the nobles, the empire—if you keep going—”
“Oh, please.” Fiona rolled her eyes.
“You may not know the specifics, but I’m already dead, mother.”
She tapped her temple lightly, her form shifting back to Evelina’s, from blonde and purple to white and crimson.
Penny stared at her silently.
Fiona sighed. “Honestly, Mom, you should thank me.”
She spread her arms slightly.
“I solved all your problems.”
Her smile returned—bright, playful, and completely wrong.
“This is a permanent resolution to your family dispute. It’s up to you whether you accept the new life I’ve given you.” She tilted her head. “I’ll spare you, whether you like it or not… think of it as a thank-you~”
