I smirked. That just gave me the perfect excuse to escape this situation… after all, he did ask to see how I fight.

It wouldn’t hurt to just knock him out unconscious for a bit so I can continue doing my own thing.

I couldn’t tell if she was mad or worried, and while I usually would call this a case of both, for Evelina, it wasn’t something I could easily place.

“I’m fine, it was a misunderstanding,” I replied.

There were a few seconds of awkward silence after my answer.

“A misunderstanding…?! Y-You—”

“Never mind,” She added through the transceiver in a meeker tone. “Just… don’t do anything reckless without telling me, alright? You’re mine, remember that, don’t go dying without my permission.”

The call ended.

“H-Huh…?”

I couldn’t help but start to grin after hearing her message, dropping the transceiver on the floor as I tried my absolute best to stop myself from jumping in glee.

’She’s worried about me… she actually decided to talk to me if I was okay…’ I began to laugh, creepy even for my standards.

“Phoenix fucking Bright, I think you’re my new best friend…”
