Chapter 223: The Awakening
The storm was upon them now.
Ten feet away.
Five.
Magdalyna stood at the very edge of the landmass, holding Jaenor against her chest with one arm. With her other hand, she reached out and pulled Ba’narussa closer. The divine beast’s seven heads lowered, pressing against Magdalyna’s body, offering their essence willingly.
Her body was much bigger now, the darkness swirling around her like a giant creature. She was covered with the dark strands crawling on her body.
“Thank you both,” Magdalyna whispered.
“For letting me do this. For trusting me to make it right.”
Then she stepped off the landmass, into the storm’s path, positioning herself directly between its center and where Jaenor floated.
The Chaos Origin struck her like a physical force. Her body, ancient, powerful, and resilient, began to glow with light that cycled through every possible color and several impossible ones. She screamed, not from pain but from the sheer intensity of power flowing through her.
And she began working.
Her essence, that deep core of what made her Magdalyna, started to reshape itself. Not dying, not dissolving, but transforming. She was becoming the bridge, the conduit, and the force field she’d promised. Her consciousness spread out, creating a structure that could channel Chaos Origin without being immediately destroyed by it.
Ba’narussa merged with her, the divine beast’s seven heads dissolving into golden light that wove itself into Magdalyna’s forming construct. Seven points of stability. Seven anchors. Seven sources of divine power adding their strength to what she was creating.
The force field took shape, a sphere perhaps ten feet across, made from Magdalyna’s body and soul and every ounce of power she possessed, reinforced by Ba’narussa’s divine essence. And at its center, held safe within layers of protection, was Jaenor’s fragmented consciousness.
The Chaos Origin began flowing into the sphere. Not gently, but in a torrent of raw, unstructured power that would have annihilated anything it touched directly. But Magdalyna’s sacrifice was working. The force field channeled it, filtered it, made it something that could be absorbed rather than destroyed by.
And it flowed into Jaenor.
The sensation was beyond description.
It wasn’t pain; it was too fundamental for something as simple as pain. It was being taken apart and remade simultaneously. Every fragment of his being that still existed was being touched by power that predated existence itself, and that power was rewriting him at the most basic level.
His essence began to expand.
To regrow.
Fragments reconnecting, consciousness reassembling, identity reforming from scattered pieces.
He could see, somehow, through perception that transcended normal senses. Could see Magdalyna’s form dissolving, her consciousness scattering as she poured everything into maintaining the bridge. Could see Ba’narussa’s seven heads fading, the divine beast’s essence being consumed to reinforce the channeling.
Both of them were dying.
Being sacrificed.
Transformed into the medium that would restore him.
And he could do nothing but watch. Could only exist at the center of this maelstrom while two beings who loved him gave everything to bring him back.
Tears formed in his eyes as he stayed motionless. Grief and gratitude and absolute incomprehension at why they would do this. Why would they pay this price?
Magdalyna’s voice reached him, barely audible through the storm’s roar and her own dissolution.
“Don’t… cry, Jaenor… We are…doing this because…we want…you…to live. So come back. Be strong. Be… better than they were. Better than… the monsters who… used you.”
Her form was almost completely gone now, dispersed into the force field, becoming pure energy that channeled the Chaos Origin into him.
“Live, Jaenor. Just… live. That’s all… all I ever wanted… for you.”
And then she was gone.
Fully consumed.
Transformed completely into the bridge between Chaos Origin and his essence.
Magdalyna, the ancient demoness, who’d existed for millions of years, who’d survived cycles of death and rebirth, who’d planned and schemed and loved, ceased to exist as an individual entity.
Ba’narussa followed moments later. The divine beast’s seven heads gave one final harmonic cry that echoed across realms, and then she too dissolved completely. Her divine essence joined Magdalyna’s sacrifice, all of it flowing into Jaenor.
And the absorption continued.
Hours passed.
Or days.
Or years.
Time worked differently in the Interplanar Void, and Jaenor’s fragmenting consciousness couldn’t accurately track its passage.
All he knew was the endless flow of power. The constant sensation of being rebuilt. The gradual return of self-awareness as scattered pieces of his identity were pulled back together and reinforced by forces that transcended normal existence.
The Chaos Origin didn’t just restore what he’d been. It was too much for that. Too powerful, too fundamental. It was remaking him into something more.
His body reformed, but different.
Stronger and more resilient.
The merged power of aura and origin energy that he’d achieved before was nothing compared to what was being forged now.
Chaos Origin integrated into every cell, every atom. Where before he’d unified two energies, now he contained something more fundamental, the source from which all energies derived. The primordial force that preceded order.
His consciousness expanded beyond mortal limits.
And woven throughout all of it, the power, the expanded awareness, the transcendent capabilities—were Magdalyna and Ba’narussa. Their essences, their memories, and their very beings had become part of him. Not as separate entities, but integrated into what he was becoming.
He could feel Magdalyna’s ancient wisdom, her experiences across millennia. Could access Ba’narussa’s divine nature, her connection to primordial forces. They lived on within him, not as voices or presences, but as fundamental aspects of his being.
The process continued far longer than seemed possible. The Chaos Origin was vast, nearly infinite, and absorbing, and even a fraction of it took time beyond normal reckoning.
But gradually, inevitably, it was completed.
The storm began to dissipate, its power fully channeled into Jaenor’s reforming essence. The force field that Magdalyna had become flickered and faded, having served its purpose.
And in the void, floating alone on a fragment of reality, Jaenor floated.
His body had reformed completely. He looked similar to how he’d been, same height, same basic features. But there were differences. His skin seemed to glow faintly with internal light. His hair, previously dark brown, now held streaks of silver and gold.
Power danced across his skin—not golden-red anymore, but purple-beige.
It was Chaos Origin, channeled through his merged capabilities, creating something unprecedented.
He’d surpassed mortality completely. Transcended the limitations that even his previous transformation hadn’t broken. He was immortal now, not in the sense of simply being hard to kill, but truly immortal. His consciousness existed partially outside normal space. Destroying his body wouldn’t kill him anymore. He could reform and rebuild himself from nothing because he’d integrated forces that predated physical existence.
And his power… his power was beyond anything he’d imagined possible. Same on the sovereign level, or maybe more than that. Beyond even what most transcended could achieve. He’d absorbed primordial chaos itself, becoming a living repository of the universe’s fundamental force.
This was what Suyajna had wanted for herself.
The power to transcend all limitations, to become something that even the Ascended would have to acknowledge as equal.
But she’d achieved it through parasitism and betrayal. Through using and consuming her own son.
Jaenor had achieved it through sacrifice. Through beings who loved him, giving everything to save him.
The difference mattered.
Would always matter.
*
After Magdalyna and Ba’narussa dissolved completely into him, after their essences became woven into the fabric of his being, something changed.
The void around Jaenor, that infinite darkness filled with floating debris and impossible stars, simply stopped.
Not frozen, exactly.
But it stopped.
As if reality itself had paused to acknowledge what was happening.
The floating landmasses that had been drifting through space became still. The stars that had burned with ancient light dimmed to pinpoints. The strange shapes that defied comprehension flattened into something approaching a normal perspective.
Everything became empty. Not the darkness that had been there before—true emptiness. Absence so complete that even absence itself seemed inadequate to describe it.
And in that absolute void, there was only one sound.
A buzzing.
Faint at first, barely perceptible. Like the hum of reality itself vibrating at frequencies just below conscious perception.
Jaenor was still floating in mid-space, his eyes closed.
it was the beating of his heart.
And the beat of his heart sent invisible shockwaves across the space.
Thump.
Thump.
Thump.
Thump.
The rhythm was slow at first.
Steady.
Like a drum being beaten in the distance, marking time that had no conventional measurement.
But it was accelerating.
Thump-thump.
Thump-thump.
Thump-thump-thump.
Faster.
Stronger.
Each beat resonates not just through him, but through the void itself. As if his heartbeat had become the heartbeat of reality in this space.
THUMP-THUMP-THUMP-THUMP-THUMP.
The acceleration continued, building toward something. The rhythm grew louder, more insistent, until it wasn’t just sound but force, pressure waves that pushed against the boundaries of existence.
And then it ignited.
Fire erupted from Jaenor’s core, not normal flames, but something primordial. The kind of fire that had existed at the universe’s birth, that would exist at its ending.
