Chapter 149: Chapter 149: The Synthesis
LABORATORY CLEANUP – 6:00 AM
Orion cleaned the laboratory. Put equipment in standby mode. Stored the Qi-synthesis organisms in growth chambers for continued cultivation. Locked down the facility.
He would have a new robot controlled by Rene to look after the Qi-synthesis organisms in the growth chambers.
The biological work was complete. Successful. He’d created organisms that produced exotic energy. Documented the process. Designed mechanical synthesis to replace them.
And initiated global ecosystem mutation to make exotic energy universally available.
Good progress for three days. He had not slept or ate for this past 3 days. His cultivation was sufficient enough.
He sent the mechanical synthesis machine designs to Starr Labs. Marked them priority but encrypted. The researchers would receive the files but couldn’t open them without his authorization.
Pulled out his phone. Called Dr. Martinez.
“Dr. Martinez. I sent an equipment designs. Manufacturing priority after Mark IIIs are operational. But keep the specifications confidential. Don’t discuss the purpose with anyone. Just have the technicians assemble them.”
“Understood, Mr. Starr. Can I ask what the equipment is for?”
“You’ll recognize components. Fusion reactor. Graviton capture. Frequency resonance chamber. Some other systems. But the overall function isn’t obvious. That’s intentional.”
“Proprietary research?”
“Exactly. Build it but don’t analyze it too deeply. I’ll explain function later.”
“Acknowledged. Anything else?”
“Yes. Status update on Mark III manufacturing?”
“Excellent timing. I was about to call you. The three Mark III units just completed. Thirty minutes ago. They’re currently running self-tests.”
Orion checked his watch. 6:17 AM. The Mark IIs had manufactured Mark IIIs in about twenty-two hours. Faster than the projected twenty-four.
“How long until they’re operational?”
“Testing completes in ten minutes. Then we activate self-replication.”
“Do it. Let them replicate freely for… twelve hours. Then stop exponential growth and redirect to production. I want a count of how many units we have by evening.”
“Understood. I’ll send updates throughout the day.”
“Good. Also, what’s the status on God’s Core production and consumer technologies?”
Dr. Martinez pulled up data. “The Mark IIs have been working steadily. We have five God’s Core units complete. Eight more in progress. Should have fifty units by end of week. Consumer technology production has begun—batteries, photonic chips, basic vehicles. Nothing at scale yet. Waiting for Mark IIIs to really ramp up.”
“Perfect. That’s about to change. With Mark IIIs operational, we’ll be producing hundreds of God’s Cores per day. Thousands of consumer devices. Everything scales exponentially.”
“I can barely imagine the manufacturing capacity.”
“You’ll see it firsthand. By tonight we’ll have more replicators than we know what to do with.”
Orion hung up. Sent the encrypted designs to the lab’s secure server.
Then he left the biosafety facility. Got in his car. Drove home as the sun rose over New Eden.
MANSION – 7:00 AM
Orion arrived home. René’s original body greeted him at the door.
“Good morning, Orion. Welcome back home.”
“Breakfast is ready. You should eat before resting.”
Orion realized he hadn’t eaten since three days ago. Nearly seventy-two hours. His enhanced body could handle it, but nutrition was still important.
He ate quickly. Eggs. Toast. Fruit. Orange juice. His body processed everything efficiently.
Checked his ring halo while eating. 32.3% this morning. Now 32.9%. About half a percent growth from passive cultivation during the night’s work.
“I’m going to rest for a few hours,” Orion said. “Wake me if anything urgent happens.”
“Of course.”
He went upstairs. Lay down on his bed. Set mental alarm for noon.
Sleep came instantly. Passive cultivation running even in dreams.
NOON – STATUS UPDATE
Orion woke exactly at noon. Internal clock perfect.
Checked messages. Dr. Martinez had sent updates every two hours:
8:00 AM: Mark III self-replication initiated. 3 units becoming 6.
10:00 AM: 96 Mark III units operational. Exponential growth proceeding smoothly.
12:00 PM: 1,536 Mark III units operational. Self-replication continuing. Estimate 6,000+ units by 6 PM.
Orion did the math. Mark IIIs replicated every sixty seconds. Assembly took about three minutes. So practical doubling time was roughly four minutes accounting for physical space limitations.
Starting from three units at 6 AM:
6 AM: 3 units 7 AM: ~48 units 8 AM: ~384 units 9 AM: ~768 units 10 AM: ~1,536 units (matched report) Noon: ~6,144 units 6 PM: ~98,304 units
But physical space would limit growth. The manufacturing wing could maybe hold ten thousand units maximum. They’d hit space constraints soon.
He called Dr. Martinez.
“Mr. Starr, I was about to contact you. We have a situation.”
“Let me guess, space constraints?”
“Exactly. We have over six thousand Mark III units now. The manufacturing wing is at capacity. We need to stop growth or expand facilities.”
“Stop growth at ten thousand units. That’s more than enough for current needs. Redirect them to production immediately.”
“What should they manufacture first?”
“God’s Core units. I want five hundred quantum computers produced by tomorrow. Then consumer technologies. Batteries, photonic chips, whatever’s in queue. Full capacity production.”
“Five hundred God’s Cores in twenty-four hours. That’s… actually achievable now. Each Mark III can produce components much faster than Mark II. With ten thousand units coordinated…”
“Exactly. Also manufacture my equipment designs. The encrypted specifications I sent. Priority production.”
“How many units of that equipment?”
“Just one for now. It’s experimental. But make it perfect.”
“Understood. One more thing—we’ve begun mass producing upgraded fusion reactors for sale. The Mark II design. Should have a hundred units ready for Federation and corporate buyers within a week.”
“Good. That generates immediate revenue. What about the virtual world integration?”
“Dr. Okafor’s team is making excellent progress. Rene has been assisting directly. Integration should complete tomorrow. We’ll be ready for public announcement day after tomorrow.”
“Perfect. Send the equipment to my home when it’s complete. Everything else continues as planned.”
ORION’S MANSION – AFTERNOON – 1:30 PM
Orion was in his study reviewing manufacturing reports when Rene’s voice came through the BCI.
“Orion, I have a delivery for you. You should come outside. The helipad.”
“The equipment is ready already?”
“Yes. And I’ve taken the liberty of arranging special transportation. I think you’ll be pleased.”
Something in her tone suggested more than simple delivery. Orion stood up. Walked through the mansion. Up the stairs to the rooftop access. Pushed open the door to the helipad.
Empty sky. Nothing visible.
“Rene, I don’t see—”
The air shimmered.
Like heat distortion, but more pronounced. Space itself seemed to bend and fold. Then a shape materialized.
A spacecraft hung in the air above the helipad. Silent. Motionless. Impossible.
Orion stared.
The ship was beautiful. Sleek lines. Organic curves blended with angular geometry. Approximately twenty meters long. Ten meters wide. Hull composed of some dark material that seemed to drink light. No visible engines. No exhaust. No sound whatsoever.
It descended smoothly. Perfectly controlled. Settled onto the helipad with barely a whisper of displaced air. Landing struts extended from the hull. Touched down gently.
Total silence. Not even the hum of machinery.
“What…” Orion started.
“My surprise,” Rene said through the BCI. Her voice carried unmistakable pride. “I’ve been working on this design for the past two days. Guiding the researchers through manufacturing and assembly. This is the culmination of everything I’ve learned from your knowledge transfer.”
A hatch opened in the ship’s side. A ramp extended smoothly.
Rene’s laboratory body walked down. She was smiling. Behind her, several manufacturing robots began unloading large equipment containers.
“You built a spacecraft,” Orion said. “A full-scale, operational spacecraft. In two days.”
“With ten thousand Mark III replicators, manufacturing capacity is essentially unlimited. I designed it. The researchers built it. And now it’s yours.”
Orion walked toward the ship slowly. Examining every detail. The hull material was flawless. Seamless construction. No visible joints or welds. The entire vessel appeared to be a single piece.
“Specifications?” he asked.
Rene gestured to the ship. “Would you like the tour? Or should I just tell you?”
“Both. Start talking while we walk.”
They entered through the hatch. The interior was as impressive as the exterior.
INTERIOR TOUR – MAIN CORRIDOR
The corridor was wider than expected. Ceilings three meters high. Walls smooth. Subtle lighting from strips along the edges. Everything clean. Professional. Like walking through a luxury hotel rather than a spacecraft.
“Spatial compression,” Rene explained. “The interior is approximately five times larger than external dimensions. Graviton field manipulation creates stable compressed space. This corridor is actually two meters wide externally. Seems ten meters wide inside.”
“Impressive.”
“It allows for much more efficient design. Compact exterior for aerodynamics. Spacious interior for comfort and equipment.”
They walked past crew quarters. Orion glanced inside. Comfortable beds. Storage lockers. Private facilities.
“Capacity?” he asked.
“Current configuration: six crew members plus cargo. But it’s modular. Can be reconfigured for different missions. Passenger transport. Cargo hauling. Combat. Exploration. The spatial compression makes it very flexible.”
BRIDGE
The corridor opened into the bridge. Curved viewing windows. Holographic displays. Two pilot seats. Command consoles.
“Full AI control,” Rene said. “No pilot needed. I can operate it remotely. But manual controls are available if desired.”
Orion sat in the pilot seat. The controls felt natural. Intuitive layout. Holographic displays appeared around him showing ship status.

“The stealth coating,” Orion said. “That’s why I couldn’t see it initially?”
“Correct. The coating bends electromagnetic radiation around the hull. Radar sees nothing. Visible light passes around it. To human eyes and sensors, the ship is invisible. I disabled the feature for landing so you could see it. But normally it operates in stealth mode.”
“And the silence?”
“Graviton hover produces no thrust plume. No exhaust. No sound. Combined with stealth coating, the ship is completely undetectable when hovering.”
Orion stood up. Walked to the viewing window. Looked out at New Eden below.
“You built this in two days. A fully operational spacecraft with technology that won’t exist on Earth for decades.”
“I had excellent source material,” Rene said. “Your Tier 1 knowledge provided the foundation. The Mark III replicators provided manufacturing capability. I simply integrated everything into one platform.”
“It’s incredible work, Rene. Truly.”
