Chapter 101 Beatrice: Part One
[Report. Isolated Space Depreciation Detected. The Owner of the Isolated Space known as the Shadow Space has died. As such, the Isolated Space known as the Shadow Space can no longer be sustained. The Isolated Space known as the Shadow Space will now cease to exist. All outsider sentient objects still conscious within the Shadow Space will be transported back to where they were prior to being transported into the Shadow Space.]
Is a… “message” from the Harmonia System after Sidewinder dies, appearing not as a holographic screen in front of me but echoing as a universal voice, that travels throughout the whole space.
“Like the Trial messages of the past, huh?”
Then the reality around me literally starts to look like it’s
deteriorating. Everything around me, the ground, desert, even the air, all of it, acts as if literally breaking down in pixel form. Pieces upon pieces of my Island from Karion appear bit by the bit until the entirety of the Shadow Space is replaced by the Item Space.
“Wow… way to sell it.”
Before I can even start to look around for you know who, I-“Oof!”-get tackled to the ground. Speared, basically. It’s none other than Dawn. Teary eyes on that adorable face.
“I was so worried!” She wails. “Please don’t scare me like that again, okay!?”
What the hell is she talking about?
“What the hell are you talking about?” I ask, looking “down” towards her with a confused expression, laying back on the sand with her on top of me. “You were watching the whole thing. You saw how I owned that whole situation. Those guys were putty in my hands.”
“Well, yeah, but… th-that doesn’t mean I can’t worry! You were
outnumbered, after all!”
“Hm… she’s right-“
“Of course I am!”
“I’d like to think in peace, thank you!” I snap internally.
“Sorry.” Dawn pouts and apologizes as she looks away with a silent huff. Brat.
“Still… she is right…”I pause, in wait and expectance of her to cut in. She doesn’t, so I continue my train of thought. “Hah… regardless of how much that whole ordeal was basically under my complete and utter control even before the Twelve Guardian Shadows launched their joined attacks, it’s no secret that basically anything can happen in those types of situations. Not to mention how completely unexpected that whole force teleportation crap was. They definitely caught me off guard there. It’s a good thing that’s all there really was to it.”
I gesture for Dawn to get off me as we get up.
“Well… all in all, this is by far the best outcome that could ever emerge from all of this. But it’s definitely going to be one lengthy topic to discuss with Uncle Chadwick.”
Deciding to cross that bridge once I get to it, I casually stroll into and through the forest, heading straight for my house. No wait… Our house. As in, me and Dawn’s.
We arrive after a long, mellow walk. The open space in the middle, as if it was made for exactly what situates at its centre. That strong, sturdy, and unique structure. It has no doors, yet it can’t be seen inside from the outside unless through the windows around it. Why? Because that empty doorway at the front is, in fact, not empty at all. In place of what would be a door, is something not dissimilar to a mirror. I stand right in front of it, seeing my own reflection. The reason for this, is my Skill, Spatial Guard. I used it to create a… door… of sorts, basically. Nigh impenetrable. Well… at least, stronger than
the average door would be. Way stronger.
The Spatial Guard Skill has a special unmentioned function that allows the user to project any image on a created barrier for the barrier to show from one side, as long as it’s not too complex, while the other side of the barrier can remain transparent. Meaning that, from the inside, I’m actually able to see who or what is on the outside. The image I made the barrier show is simple, a live recording of everything happening in front of it. Since there’s somewhat of a blueprint, instead of it being something I’m having to come up with on the fly, it’s a lot easier to project. Effortless even.
Another special unmentioned function of the Skill is the ability for the user to ignore the barriers they create while anyone else can’t, unless the user in this case, me – allows it. Which means I can easily pass through the barrier without briefly deactivating the Skill, but unless I allow it, no one else can do the same.
I stroll right through the barrier, Dawn following close behind.
We pass through the kitchen-slash-living room and head into the Workroom.
A warmth envelopes us as we enter, caused by the never ending flames of the Dragon Furnace. It’s not like any other normal warmth. It’s one that literally rejuvenates one’s health through the flow of pure untainted Mana. I feel the warmth, really take it in as if breathing in the pure Mana, prolonging the feeling of its effect on my body as I walk towards the back of the room. Meanwhile Dawn just casually leans against the interior wall, right next to my operating table. Once there, at the back of the Workroom, I look through various fabrics from the massive set of equipment for blacksmithing and building. I find some silk bands, thin, wide and long. I then get a needle and a ball of thin yarn of the same color as the silk bands. Semi-glistening whitish silver.
I grab the yarn and needle, as well as what I deem enough silk bands to do what I need to do, taking them all back to the table.
I set them on said table and calmly take a seat.
Then, using the thin yarn and needle, I carefully knit the bands of silk
together at their ends. One after the other. Over and over. Up until I have two silk bands, both as wide and thin as the originals, yet much,
much longer.
To my left is the beast of a weapon I created about a week ago. Melissa’s weapon. That monstrosity of a weapon, hanging right next to Dawn’s blade form. I get up from my seat and take the longsword down, then embed the two durable bands of silk on the top part of the weapon’s hilt, just below its wolf fur made guard.
After that, I grab the weapon firmly by its grip, then spin it, briefly letting it go out of my hand and catching immediately after. The bands react to the sudden movement, spinning along with the longsword, and wrapping themselves around the weapon as if they have a mind of their own.
The bands envelope the weapon completely, making it look like a big, massive blade covered in whitish silver bandages made of silk.
“There we are. Now it’s definitely done.”
“Are you planning on going out to give it to her, right now?” Dawn finally speaks to ask, taking a few slow steps forward.
“Yeah…” I readily answer, with a slightly mischievous smirk on my face. “Figured now that the whole Twelve Guardian Shadows situation has been dealt with accordingly, I might start to get a little comfortable, instead of “laying low”, as a certain old man would put it.” I gesture using finger quotes. “Might even allow me to carry favour
with those overprotective freaks so they can let me get back in the Dungeon game.”
“So it’s strategic…? Of course there’s a hidden agenda behind it.”
“Well when you put it like that, you make it sound like I’m a bad guy.”
“Well when you put it like that, you make it sound like I’m wrong.”
Dawn looks at me with a thin smirk after she says that, her tone annoyingly sounding matter-of-factly. I pause and look at her. Then finally speak after a few seconds.
“I might have to go to the Eternal Magic Library sooner than I
expected I’d need to. There’s gotta be scripts or books or something about Spirit Bonds there, on Spells or anything that can force one’s
Spirit to be quiet, specifically.” I shoot back as I casually lean the massive, heavy, bandaged weapon against my shoulder. Dawn immediately goes completely quiet when I say that, which tells
me that- “Holy shit. There actually is, isn’t there?”
“Wh-what!? N-no! I-it’s just that I-“
“Please kid, don’t even try. You’re already outed.” “W-wait! Master please! I swear I’ll be good! You don’t have to-“
I teleport out of the Item Space, cutting her off. She knows better
than to follow, what with the obvious questions it’ll raise. I materialize in Training Room 19 or the Warriors Association. Longsword in tow, I stroll around the halls and go to the Main Elevator to use it to go to the lobby after using Treasure Hunt, which is now S-Rank to find out that that’s where Uncle Chadwick is, since
he’s the only S-Rank in the whole building.
“Then again, I could be wrong… could be Sakura instead, or even another Disciplinary Committee member I haven’t met yet.” I murmur to myself, taking the Main Elevator, then head up to the lobby to
confirm.
Sure enough, it’s Uncle Chadwick.
“Well… of course the most active S-Rank member in the building
would be its Manager, so I shouldn’t be surprised.” I utter, spotting him from the top, the interior balcony.
I walk down to go greet him, what with not having seen him in days, since I was in the Item Space the whole time, basically.
As I walk towards him, I catch glimpses of people, as in fellow Association employees, eyeing me. Whether it may be because of the
large object I’m carrying over my right shoulder or my continuing rise
in fame on the internet, I couldn’t say.
“Uncle Chadwick. Been a minute, huh?” I utter after getting close
enough to be heard.
The man in question looks up at me while sitting down on a spot of the seating arrangements surrounding the lobby’s fountain. “Raid?” He echoes. “That it has, kid. Been keeping out of trouble, I
hope.” His gaze then shifts towards the object I carry over my shoulder, then he smiles. “Heh… guess not.” Mean. “That supposed to be Melissa’s?” He asks slowly shifting his focus away from me as he
looks straight forward.
“Nail on the head, uncle.” I take a seat right next to him, setting the
longsword on top of my lap. “But first, there’s something I wanted to talk to you about, specifically!”
“Uh-oh… that can’t be good. What did you do now?” “B-believe when I say it really wasn’t my fault, this time, and it’s actually even better this time. The outcome, I mean. Look…”
I then go through a lengthy explanation of everything that’s happened in the past seven days. My creating of the smithy, of Melissa’s
weapon, and many more weapons that I plan to sell in addition, all the way up to being interdimensionally kidnapped and everything that happened after…
“I see… hm… you’re right. This is a much better outcome that I
expected.” He admits, a genuine smile forming on his face as he looks at me. Almost as if he’s proud of me. Seeing it, I can’t help but feel pleased with myself, also. It’s a nice feeling, witnessing an older person I basically look up to, look at me like that. A nice feeling an
orphan kid like me wouldn’t dare take for granted. “So the Shadows are truly no more, huh?” He continues, placing his hand on his chin as
he turns away with a contemplative expression. “And you’re saying besides yourself, Andrew’s the first person to know about this…? Yeah… while I doubt he cares about the Shadows, seeing you take down nine A-Ranks of their caliber with ease, first hand, is definitely
gonna make him a lot more cautious. That on top of yours truly telling
him to back off of you. I’m pretty sure he won’t be doing anything shady anytime soon.”
“He did that…? He told another S-Rank Warrior to back off? Straight
to his face? For… me…?”
I then feel the sensation of a big hand bowling the top of my head and
brushing it. Needless to say-
“Good job, kid.” It’s Uncle Chadwick. “I’ll handle everything else accordingly, so you don’t need to worry!”
I duck my head down, failing to let out a smile. “Thank-“
“Aww, how adorable.”
“I know that voice.”
“It really is.”
“That one two.”
I look up as Uncle Chadwick lets go of my head. It’s Peyton and
Melissa, coming from who the hell knows where.
I let out a small sigh, ignoring their obvious taunts, then raise the big
object on my lap and casually throw it at Melissa without saying a single word.
She stummers a bit, which makes me laugh, a quick quiet revenge for their teasing, but she still obviously catches it, even though slightly
caught off guard by the sudden action.
She then looks at me after catching it… “Is this… is this what I think it is…?” She asks with pleading eyes. The
more I get to know her, the more I start to catch emotion in those
expressionless eyes of hers. It might be an illusion of sorts, because I
doubt anyone who didn’t know her would see the same thing I am right now. “You betcha.” I answer her. Chadwick and Peyton just look at her and smile, genuinely. They must be really happy for her. “Thank you.” She utters, slowly bowing all the while- “Okay, no, don’t do that.” I quickly stop her, putting my hands out and waving them side to side.
“Sorry, I just… this really means a lot.” I’ve always thought she was beautiful, but… now? She’s just straight up adorable. “How do I…? Do I just unwrap it from the top?” She asks, looking all over it, slightly
confused. Yeah… adorable. “Just spin it?”
“Spin it?” She echoes.
“Yeah, spin it anticlockwise to unwrap it, them clockwise to wrap it up
again.” I explain. “Like… this?” She spins it. Anticlockwise. Then, the bands start unwrapping, spinning open around the blade to reveal it. “Holy smokes.” She exclaims. “I did not see that coming.”
The other two are also visibly surprised. “Not your typical sheath, is it?” “No… not even close.” Melissa answers me, holding the longsword up
to show it off, catching the eyes of nearby bystanders. The blade shimmers a velvet hue that matches her eyes, and silver
star-like bits of light around it that match her hair, that, and the bands, of course.
The blade isn’t necessarily a longsword like the typical, common one. It has a design similar to that of a warbrand, yet is much wider. Straight and rectangular in shape. At its tip, is a sharp curve that
forms like a billhook that cuts on both sides. Then beneath said hook, on its back edge, are two teeth. The first one, around half the size of
the hook, and below that one, is a much smaller one, around half the
size of the first.
“Wanna know her name?” I ask Melissa, who’s still in a trance, completely enthralled by her new companion.
“Her… name?” She echoes.
I smirk before replying. “Melissa… meet Beatrice.”
