Chapter 39: You Are Trash And I Will Make You Understand That
Kaelen slammed his boots against another ceramic roof, shattering it with a thunderous smash and propelling himself forward.
His eyes snapped to the sudden increase in Resonance energy in an alleyway.
’He’s hiding something…’ he deduced with skeptical eyes.
If he was in his normal state of mind, he would’ve halted his desperate pursuit and called for assistance from the Royal Envoy or perhaps Elara and earn some brownie points from her.
“I see you, rat!” He screamed while jumping from another shattered ceiling.
A blue spear materialized in his hand, and he shot it in Aden’s direction with raw, overwhelming force.
The spear shattered the stone where Aden had been standing a millisecond prior. Blue sparks flew, singeing the hanging clothes and filling the air with the smell of burnt ozone.
Aden stood five meters away, the sackcloth hood having fallen back to reveal the white wood of the Hannya mask.
His silver hair caught the dim light, shimmering in a way that made Kaelen freeze for a heartbeat.
“That hair…” Kaelen muttered, his eyes widened. “No, he’s dead, it’s just another Redwyn fanatic,” he reasoned.
Another spear materialized within his fingers as he ran behind the masked man from above.
When they reached a straight path, the air twisted around his arms and the spear left his hands with reinforced intensity.
The impact shattered the ground with a loud crash. The people around that area scattered frantically while hurling curses against him and the Royal Family.
“Why is he chasing this masked man? He hasn’t done anything wrong!” A woman complained.
A man who was rubbing his head to soothe the headache caused by a falling rock stared into the distance with a suspicious expression.
“Isn’t that Ghost?” He whispered under his breath.
Aden exhaled as the location drew nearer. More spears were shot at him and the gradually increasing intensity of each spear left him wondering why.
’Did this man honestly leave everything else he could do with his time and start chasing after a poor, sickly man?’
Aden jumped to the left, evading another large, blue spear that threatened to snap him in half.
Boom!
His eyes flitted to the ring for a split second before he skidded into the alleyway.
And then he waited.
The explosions died out. The air went still and eerily quiet for a solid minute before clear footsteps could be heard.
Aden punched a hole in the wall next to him while facing forward.
Kaelen’s silver hair announced his presence before his full body appeared. Anger was clear in his face but a flicker of confusion flashed in his eyes.
“Initially, I just wanted to find someone to let out my frustrations on,” he started, another spear forming in his palm, but this time, it shone a fiery red. “But you are officially of interest to me.”
Aden didn’t show any reaction to his words since they only reinforced what he already knew, but the fiery spear that was being hurled his way interested him.
’Is this an affinity?’ he wondered.
His head bent to the left, a hot flame licking against his nape with a loud explosion.
A flicker of surprise passed through Kaelen’s face, but he quickly got himself together and shot another spear towards him.
“I might decide to spare you if you tell me your origin,” Kaelen advised. “That silver hair betrays your relation to this town. Who are you?”
Aden didn’t respond, or it would be more accurate to say he couldn’t respond. If he opened his mouth, there was a possibility his ’Brother’ would be able to decipher his true voice.
Honestly, he was a bit surprised that Kaelen hadn’t peered through his mask and found out his true identity.
Then again, looking at the smug expression on his face as he hurled yet another fiery red spear towards him, he didn’t think it too strange that it was a matter of pride.
He rolled to the left, the pain of the scattering bricks feeling almost negligible through all the adrenaline.
His eyes flitted backwards and registered the large opening that led to another part of town.
’A short cut for the people, I guess,’ he shrugged.
He turned to his left where he’d punched a hole before dashing forward.
Kaelen let out a sound of confusion then a roar of anger, before thrusting his fire–coated fists outwards.
Aden’s fist met his, the flames covering his palms, but his expression remained unchanged.
’Weaker than I expected. Maybe he’s holding back?’
He nodded inwardly at his reasoning and gave some points to his brother for tactical thinking.
“How are you doing that!?” Kaelen screamed.
Aden was brought out of his thoughts by the loud scream. He placed his palm against the stony ground and his feet turned upwards to kick his ’brother’s’ face.
He felt an obstruction, and added more force to his feet before the warm arm was pushed away, allowing soft flesh to meet his toes.
A muffled groan left Kaelen’s lips as he stumbled backwards. Shock was written all over his face as he felt a warmth run down his lips.
’Did he just use brute force against my defense?’
Kaelen found it unbelievable that this slightly muscular body before him could not only force his way through not one, but two layers of his defense, with just a kick.
But then again, the strange looking mask was staring straight at him in a crouched stance.
Kaelen didn’t know what it was, but looking through those slits felt like staring into the depths of an abyss. A fraction of his will power was lost and a small thought of abandonment budded in his mind.
Kaelen blinked.
And in the next moment, a fist was already inches away from his left cheek.
His instincts didn’t react on time and he was shot through the brick wall and into another section of town.
Aden looked downwards. ’Guess I won’t be pulling him to the sewers after all.’
Believe it or not, Aden was holding back most of his physical strength to avoid gargantuan damage to the town and end up pulling Elara out of the chase he orchestrated for her.
Was Kaelen doing the same thing? He wasn’t sure. After all, he had never fought against anyone in the First Stage of Aligned realm before.
While these thoughts ran through his head, he was already engaging in hand to fiery hands combat and was consciously trying not to burst his brother’s head off.
’I wish my Adaptive Resonance could work for weaker opponents,’ he grumbled as he fixed a punch on Kaelen’s lips.
Blood and tooth flew out his lips as he stumbled backwards and fell on his back.
Disgust surfaced on Aden’s face as he stood above him. ’I guess not all nobles are trained in hand to hand combat,’ he thought.
Kaelen flared his fists to collide with Aden’s leg, but a stomp on his wrist cancelled all of his effort.
“Gahh!”
Aden looked around hurriedly while putting a foot in Kaelen’s mouth.
Kaelen’s eyes widened to the limit. Tears formed at the corners of his eyes– whether it was from the sudden change or embarrassment, Aden didn’t know, nor did he care.
Aden’s ears perked up. The sounds of multiple footfalls sounded in his ears and Kaelen’s eyes brightened.
Aden clicked his tongue softly and turned his eyes back to Kaelen.
Sensing the annoying smugness he emanated, Aden felt like shoving his boot deeper into his throat.
And he did.
His feet moved upwards with Kaelen’s gag reflex, his face flushing red and a hint of purple.
Aden leaned in so close, the tooth of the mask scraped past Kaelen’s ear.
“If you speak of whatever happened here to anyone, I will find you, I will make you suffer and I will kill you.”
A cold breath left his lips and penetrated deep into Kaelen’s eardrums, sending shivers down his spine.
He blinked again and Aden was gone, the foot disappeared from his mouth and if not for the nauseating mix of excretions and sewage, he would have loved to believe he was hallucinating.
He took to his feet with his face red in embarrassment as he spat multiple times.
He didn’t need that strange man to tell him to keep what happened a secret, but the helplessness he felt before and after the fight made him so frustrated that he wanted to take it out on another unsuspecting citizen.
He took two steps forward before he halted in his steps.
“They’ll be here soon. I won’t be given further chance to run off, so I should just stay here…”
