Chapter 74: Void Goes In The Bones, Resonance Stays In Your Hole
At the mention of its pride, the Entity didn’t offer any words to dissuade him from the suicidal path. Heck, even he knew there was no other way.
The portions of energy the Entity had held back during the infusion were finally released, and like a dam broken after a large flood, the increased the intensity of the drilling process.
Aden didn’t scream, but the veins that bulged at the sides of his neck and top of his forehead said enough.
The Entity didn’t linger and increased the force behind the piercing Void energy. He held off on infusing increasing the density of the already large amounts in Aden’s body, but if things proved to be more difficult, he’d have no choice but to reach into his realm and increase the density.
’Aden, try circulating your energy to away from your bones to your heart. I’m not saying it’ll work, but it should lighten the barrier a little,’ the Entity offered.
Aden’s voice boomed. ’And what if that circulation thickens it instead, huh? Don’t tell me you can’t even break through this with all the godly strength you’ve been boasting about since forever.’
The Entity’s kept quiet, but if one listened extremely closely, they would hear him whisper. “Your bravado can only go so far.”
A good thing Aden didn’t hear that… Probably.
The dark energy still drilled during this time, but the Adaptive Resonance still proved sturdy no matter how hard or fast it moved.
The thought of straightforwardly consuming the Humerus crossed the Entity’s mind. After all, he could always regenerate it and his new body could handle a bit of blood loss.
But he promptly dissuaded himself against it. The risks were too large compared to the pay off.
If Aden suddenly lost his limb during a high stake operation such as this, he might as well kiss any hope of trust goodbye, and needless to say that would affect his future plans greatly.
The major risk however, laid in the fact that the one way Void channels would be destroyed, and unlike the arm, it couldn’t be regenerated. Which inadvertently placed another large obstacle to his future plans.
As the Entity was engrossed in the reasoning and possible re–evaluation of his past thoughts, a small, almost imperceptible crack traveled through his senses.
And if he could hear it, so could Aden.
’It cracked!’ the Entity announced, his strained voice receiving an edge of hope.
Aden replied. ’We can’t celebrate yet. We still have a long way to go.’
The Entity clicked its tongue. ’I know, I know. Just hold on a little longer.’
Transferring his eyesight to the Void energy, the Entity got a cleaner view of what he was dealing with, and he sorely realized why Aden lacked the enthusiasm he had during the crack.
The barrier was immensely thick. Aden’s Humerus was tightly wrapped in a transparent energy that seemed to hum with life of its own, as small traces of black slowly flew out its surface.
The Entity’s eyes hardened, but he never stopped drilling throughout this time. The crack, although small and negligible compared to the scale of what they were dealing with, proved to be a glimmer of hope to him.
’Could I manipulate it like I did before?’
He recalled with mixed feelings the time he put Kaelthorn in a very difficult position when Aden’s memory was about to be sealed to prevent him from seeing a future the Entity painstakingly projected in his memory.
’If it was then, I could, but now…’
The Entity glanced downwards again. The magnified barrier dashing any hopes of mental manipulation to the ground.
A small sizzling sound passed his ears, ironically causing a jolt from him. A tiny strand of the dark energy turned to the source of the sound with immediate speed, just in time to see a faint steam exuding from a part of the barrier.
The part where the crack had occured. He hurriedly transferred his senses there to make sure what he thought had happened didn’t actually happen.
Reality wasn’t always nice.
The crack they’d formed after so much sweat and blood healed with no trace.
’WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! I SAID CHANNEL YOUR ENERGY IF IT DOESN’T WORK!’
Aden had finally reached his breaking point. The pain and frustration from feeling his energy getting pierced into finally found an outlet to pour themselves onto.
The dark energy flickered and darkened dangerously fast. If before it was an emptiness, now it was the embodiment of destruction and absorption.
The energy twisted and turned in an eerie fashion as the darkness swept over every part of his body despite being consciously concentrated at his Humerus.
The incomprehensibility of the emptiness was far beyond what the Entity displayed during any of its battles. Be it with the Princess or against Aden.
The Entity didn’t even give a moment of warning before a sharp points formed at the surface of his energy. They pierced into the barrier like knife through butter.
A dull scream echoed internally, but the law of silence that existed outside now applied inside Aden’s body as well.
The transparent energy tried to thicken once more, but it had reached its threshold for Aden’s current realm.
It couldn’t adapt.
The Entity’s Void energy caused the transparent energy to shatter like glass, but even then, the shattering sound didn’t register in that space.
The pointed tips pressed themselves onto Aden’s bones. His entirety shook violently, and judging by the rotation of his bones, it could be easily made out that he was rolling on the floor to somehow drown out the absolute pain that he couldn’t escape from.
Slowly, the energies seeped into his Humerus. First they expanded the marrows to meet their selfish requirements, then they began flowing slowly. Mixing themselves with the calcium and blood before they began full circulation.
Aden’s bones grew denser with every circulation. The white metallic nature gradually fading to reveal a densely black colouration. His blood remained the same, courtesy of the Entity.
As the circulatory paths became more stable, Aden’s skull to his phalanges all turned pitch black. The shaking stopped, the Adaptive Resonance retreated into the innards of his body and resided everywhere apart from the bones with a reluctant hum.
The Entity let out a sigh, and whispered. ’It’s finished, Aden.’
No response came.
’Aden?’ the Entity called out again.
Nothing.
Aden was unresponsive.
