Chapter 72: Don’t Delay the Inevitable
Zero didn’t waste anytime assembling the rest of the Vassals. They all stood in a wide circle as their hands flared with a dark energy that gave one the illusion of emptiness.
Aden felt a fraction of his energy leave him, but he wasn’t too alarmed by this. The spectacle that was unfolding before him was well worth it.
And besides, the Entity left quite an amount of Void energy in his body before he was kicked out to the basement of his soul. So there was nothing to worry about.
His eyes watched closely as the Vassals weaved complex hand signs with their fingers, while Lorelei stood in the center with her arms stretched upwards.
Small vortexes appeared at the palms of each Vassal. Zero’s dark vortex was comparably larger to the rest, but the amount of energy leaving Aden’s body didn’t spike.
’An efficient use of Void energy… I still have a long way to go,’ Aden reasoned.
The Vortexes in front of each Vassals’ palms spun faster and drew in large amounts of debris to its center. Large gusts of wind expanded outward and the faint cracking of the rocks being disintegrated into in its center could be heard.
Then all of a sudden, the Vassals pushed their hands forward and the Vortexes seemingly detached from their palms and latched onto Lorelei’s body.
Aden’s eyes widened in surprise, but he didn’t interrupt their ritual.
Lorelei’s position didn’t change, her face displayed extreme focus as she widened her arms. The Vortexes on her body gave her the image of a goddess of destruction as the suction force strangely didn’t have an effect on her.
Her deep breath echoed in the cave, then a dull ’humph’ sound followed shortly after.
All forms of noise died instantly. The air itself seemed to come to a standstill as Lorelei weaved complex hand signs that strengthened the Vortexes.
Aden felt a large amount of Void energy leave his body, but he couldn’t bring himself to ignore the magnificent display of power going on before him.
A large circle manifested itself above Lorelei. It’s diameter reaching the two sides of the cave and enveloping it’s surface. Strange symbols hovered above it, and small crackles sounded from the surface.
A small sound left Lorelei’s lips, but it resonated deep in Aden’s soul.
“Solix Cegrit Nefrolace Ikshat.”
A loud boom sounded immediately those words left Lorelei’s lips, but at the same time, the sound didn’t register as sound.
The nature of that spell proved too much for Aden to understand, hence, he chose not to stress his brain unnecessarily.
The dark magic circle rotated slowly for a few minutes before it disappeared like it never existed, but its effect was undeniable.
The air had this emptiness to it that didn’t stem from the lack of oxygen or pressure. It was simply… Non existent.
Aden opened his mouth to speak, but no words left his lips, or it would be more accurate to say sound couldn’t travel in that space.
’Master, it is finished,’ Zero’s voice sounded in Aden’s head.
Normally, Aden would’ve been shocked by this development, but speaking to the Entity all this time did make him somewhat accustomed to telepathic connections.
’Zero,’ he responded calmly. ’You have done well. All of you.’
’Your acknowledgement eases our souls. The rest of the Vassals shall be told of this—’
’Lord? Can you hear me?’ Lorelei’s oddly excited voice sounded.
Aden smiled wryly. He had a feeling his head would be more than a space for thinking after his cultivation session.
’Yes, Lorelei. I can hear you,’ he replied.
’Teehee. Did you see what I did? It was very cool, no?’
Aden nodded with undisguised respect at the feat. ’I couldn’t comprehend what was happening most of the time, but it was very eye opening to the say the least.’
Lorelei chuckled at Aden’s praise, but before she could say anything else, Zero interrupted. ’It would be wise if you left Master to begin his infusion. He needs to be most focused.’
Lorelei’s sigh echoed in Aden’s head. ’We’ll be here Master. Just reach out to us through the Sync if you need assistance and we’ll put our lives on the line!’
Zero hummed as he left his Master’s headspace. Lorelei did the same and Aden was left alone was again.
The gravity of what he was about to do dawned on him again. Sure, he’d experienced pain, but being forced to go through pain and consciously causing pain to oneself were two vastly different things.
But there was no going back. At least not when survival was partly guaranteed.
’Wake up you prideful thing. You’re going to be assisting me here.’
’I am you. You can just call me Aden, and I wasn’t sleeping,’ the Entity retorted calmly, but Aden could pick up on the faint sense of excitement hidden in his voice.
’Whatever. How am I going to go about this?’
’Think of my Void energy as a thick spread of oil on water. The water in this case, is your Resonance energy. You’ll have to force the Void into your bones since you have no channels, and make sure that only the Void energy filters into your marrow,’ the Entity explained as simply as it could.
Aden nodded internally, but the instinctual dread that followed couldn’t be dampened by bravery.
’But I’ll be helping you, since the Void energy in there is mine after all. You’ll have to grow yours if you’re going to advance in any way,’ the Entity added.
’I still have to find a way to cultivate Void energy? What are you here for then?’ Aden retorted.
’Stop trying to make small talk in an effort to mask your fear. Let’s get this done once and for all,’ the Entity replied in mild annoyance.
Aden’s jaw tightened, a strange emptiness in his stomach made him shift in discomfort. The feeling of being found out didn’t sit well with him.
’Let’s do it.’
