The reason why Kai asked that was because if the system really gave a mission that was possible for him to complete, this was the only chance he had.

’Please, any 2nd Echelon Awakener or Monster will do.’ Kai prayed in his heart as he asked the town chief.

The town chief frowned and asked. “Why did you ask that?”

“If there is one, we might be able to kill that 2nd Echelon Fire Lion.” Kai replied.

“Are you sure?” The town chief deepened his frown.

“It depends on the dead body’s strength, but with me here, the chance would be high.” Kai said with a smug expression.

“What can you do with your puny strength, tickling the enemy?” A young man in his late twenties sneered at Kai, thinking that this crazy young man was about to do something stupid again.

Glancing at the young man in white clothes with a sword at his waist, Kai only chuckled. “What can I do with my puny strength?”

“I can do this.” Kai immediately vanished into thin air and appeared in front of the young man, then kicked at the young man’s stomach.

The young man was shocked and instinctively blocked the kick with his two hands covering his stomach.

“Can you even resurrect the dead of 2nd Echelon Rank when you haven’t even reached the 1st Echelon Rank yet?” The town chief asked again.

A middle-aged man in his early forties chimed in, “Town Chief…”

The town chief only raised his hand, signaling the other to not interrupt him.

“To be honest, I’m not even sure about it, but this is our only chance to kill the fire lion and save the town.” Kai replied with a bitter smile, then continued. “Even if I’m able to do it, there’s a chance that they would rebel because of the difference in strength between us. So, help me block the attack for a second because I can cancel the resurrection, or help me to subdue them instead.”

“It all depends on the situation at that time.” Kai explained slowly with a serious expression.

The town chief thought about something for a while, then exhaled deeply and looked at Kai. “Follow me.”

Everyone looked at the town chief with a bitter smile before following him slowly at a distance.

“Why are they looking at you like that?” Kai tilted his head and looked at the town chief beside him.

“The dead body of the 2nd Echelon Rank that you’re going to resurrect is actually my son.” The town chief replied with a bitter smile.

Before Kai could respond, he continued. “He was actually a genius, like you too. He even got accepted into the Royal Crest Academy, which is one of the best academies out there. However, a few years ago, he was killed by that Fire Lion when it attacked this town.”

Kai listened to the story with interest before knitting his eyebrows when he heard that the town chief’s son was killed by the Peak 2nd Echelon Fire Lion.

“That’s why we’re prepared to fight to the death in the hope that after it has killed enough, it will retreat like before.”

“Actually, since you’re not from here, you can just break through the encirclement and flee immediately when we deal with the fire lion.” The town chief patted Kai’s shoulder, feeling that it should be right to not let Kai risk his life for them.

“Don’t worry. If I can resurrect your son and subdue him, I’m confident that we should have some chance of killing it.” Kai chuckled.

“We’ll see.” The town chief smiled in response.

Kai was really confident now, as he had some guesses regarding the reason why the fire lion retreated after killing the town chief’s son.

If he was really such a genius as the town chief had mentioned, then his guess most likely would be true, and he would really be able to kill the fire lion this time.

“By the way, did you see the tail that hit me a few times before?” Kai nudged the town chief as he was curious about it.

“Tail? I didn’t see any, but I only felt that something did hit you after you went crazy—cough!” The town chief shook his head and coughed when his mouth slipped.

’He didn’t see it? That’s weird.’ Kai thought to himself as he was able to see the tail clearly.

“What about you guys?” Kai looked back at the others.

The others’ answer was the same as the chief’s.

’Damn, why do I feel like it’s not the system? Maybe the system’s watchdog or something?’ Kai thought to himself.

The tiger cub was actually pleased when he saw that Kai was actually not that stupid, but when Kai thought about it, he immediately felt annoyed and cursed as he slapped his tail once again.

“I’m not a dog!”

Kai was slapped once again, but this time it was from behind, making him kiss the ground and molding his face’s structure in it.

’Fuck, that bastard could read my thoughts?’ Kai cursed in his heart as he stood up once again, while the others were taken aback once again when they saw that Kai was beaten up by something they didn’t know.

“Why did it seem like you’re being beaten up by something? Do you have someone who protects you in secret? Why don’t you ask them to kill the fire lion instead?” The town chief asked Kai, thinking that someone must have been protecting Kai silently, and they were extremely strong as they couldn’t even see and sense it.

Kai’s eyes lit up since he suddenly had an idea.

’Hey, are you the system?’ Why don’t you change my mission? Don’t you think that it’s too unreasonable? Or at least help me a little bit by debuffing the fire lion’s stats a little bit.’ Kai was just yapping at this point, trying to see if the beast behind the tail would respond again.
