Chapter 90: Shattering The Momentum

When Tong Baitao saw the body flying at him, he shoved the tiny man away without hesitation and simply let the corpse crash to the side. With his batons ready, he strode forward.

Tong Qianjiang suddenly brought his hand up and pointed a gun at Chen Chuan’s head. Even though he did not pull the trigger, he gave off an intimidating air.

This was the brothers’ teamwork. While one of them attacked their target, the other defended.

Seventh was also crawling all over the ceiling and intentionally creating scuttling sounds to remind Chen Chuan that he existed. It was a good way to distract him while waiting for a chance to attack.

Chen Chuan took all this information in. As he watched Tong Baitao get closer, he started moving forward as well, then swung his saber diagonally upward.

In order to defend against Tong Qianjiang’s gun and Seventh’s threat, Chen Chuan did not use his full speed. This meant the trajectory of his swing was clear, but his mutated tissue still pushed his refined force into the saber.

Tong Baitao brought his batons up in an attempt to push the saber down. He blocked the attack, but an explosive force came from the saber. It caught him off guard, and he lost his grip over the batons. One of them flew off, while the other snapped with a loud crack.

The saber struck down. It reached his chest, and a deep gash was left behind on the shell, revealing its tissue and inner walls. If the saber had cut any deeper, he might not have been killed, but he would have been injured severely.

Just then, Chen Chuan sensed movement above. He pulled his saber back and wrapped his hands around his head to block the blow dart targeting the back of his head, then delivered a diagonal slash.

When he stepped forward, he heard a gunshot, and a bullet grazed the back of his head. A lock of his hair moved, but he did not bat an eye at that.

Tong Baitao’s hands were pushed up by the impact of the swing, and he was forced to tilt back. When Chen Chuan’s saber came swinging at him again, it hit him right in the ribs.

The saber was supposed to cut him in half, but after breaking through the thick, hard shell, Chen Chuan felt as if something was tightening around his blade, like there were multiple, flexible layers constricting the blade. Those were Tong Baitao’s muscles, and they were clamping down on the saber to prevent it from cutting any deeper. The blade was stuck.

Chen Chuan’s eyes flickered with realization. This was not an effect from an implant. It was most likely a refined force that could block and negate the damage from sharp objects.

Cunning flashed in Tong Baitao’s eyes. He brought his arms down to grab the saber, and with his tensed up muscles working with him, Chen Chuan’s saber was now completely stuck.

He might be large and seemingly unreasonable, but he was not as rash as his looks suggested. He had pulled a trick just now. After deciding that Chen Chuan’s Frost King Saber posed the greatest threat, he chose to neutralize the weapon at the risk of getting injured.

The mutated tissue was propelling his refined force forward. If his hit landed, then even if the yielding force did not manage to pulverize Tong Baitao’s brains, it would knock him out for a short moment.

But just when the hit was about to land, Chen Chuan sensed something, and he tilted his head to the side. A poison dart hit his shoulder from above, but it bounced off the protective suit.

The slight pause gave Tong Baitao a chance. The two arms behind his back grabbed Chen Chuan’s arm. At the same time, he used his normal arms to grab Chen Chuan’s waist and pulled him closer.

Chen Chuan ignored the penetrating force and simply brought his knee up to stop his body from being dragged any further. Just then, his eyes moved. He detected movement in his peripheral vision and tilted his head back. Tong Qianjiang fired his gun, and a bullet shot past Chen Chuan’s face. Chen Chuan used the chance to lean back to create some distance between them. Then, he brought his leg down and stomped on Tong Baitao’s ankle joint.

Tong Baitao’s face twisted in pain, and his grip around Chen Chuan loosened.

Chen Chuan shifted his center of gravity down while twisting his waist, which allowed him to lift Tong Baitao’s huge body and throw him on the floor. The crash almost knocked him out. Chen Chuan seized this chance to grab the Frost King Saber’s hilt. He pulled it out a little, then jammed it back in with a violent twist.

Tong Baitao screamed in pain. The sound of multiple gunshots rang out, but none of them hit Chen Chuan. Clearly, Tong Qianjiang had lost his cool.

After Chen Chuan pulled the Frost King Saber out, he brought it high up above his head. By the looks of it, he was going to behead Tong Baitao.

Fang Dawei had stayed still because he had just taken his medicine and had yet to recover, but he could not stay still anymore. He charged forward to deliver a sweeping kick.

Chen Chuan flipped his wrists, and the blade, already on its way down, swung up. It should have severed Fang Dawei’s leg, but the moment the saber touched the limb, it hit something really slithery and pliable. The blade slid off the leg.

When Chen Chuan noticed it, he flipped his wrists again to turn the blade toward him while the hilt faced outward. It pushed against Fang Dawei’s chest, and Chen Chuan rammed his shoulder against the crossguard to send Fang Dawei flying.

But Chen Chuan did not stop there. He tensed his core to channel his strength into the throw behind him. Light reflected off the blade as it went charging at Tong Baitao just as he got up.

In terror, Tong Baitao used all of his four arms and two legs to shift backward. It was enough for him to escape the saber by a hair’s breadth. Even so, the blade sliced through a spot near his collarbone and left a gash.

Chen Chuan’s offense had not ended, though. Making use of the momentum after he threw the saber behind him, he moved along with his blade and grabbed the hilt before directing the tip forward toward Tong Baitao’s throat.

Tong Qianjiang shouted and grabbed a board from a broken box to throw at him.

Chen Chuan watched it come at him and completely ignored it. As the layers of mutated tissue propelled his body into movement, he became a conduit of seamless, unified force from head to toe that lunged forward and thrust the blade. Right then, he felt as if his saber had pierced through something solid.

The moment the board hit his shoulder, it was as if it hit some invisible force and shattered into bits and pieces.

When the shattered pieces fell down, the robbers saw Tong Baitao with all four of his arms positioned behind him while he sat slumped halfway on the floor. His head was tilted back, and the saber stuck out from the back of his head. His eyes had rolled back, and he could only make gurgling sounds. His arms and body were twitching.

Tong Qianjiang screamed in crazed rage, and his eyes turned bloodshot with anger. He no longer cared about guarding the entrance and fired all his bullets at Chen Chuan before grabbing a saber to charge at him.

Chen Chuan did not stay still to endure the torrent of bullets. The moment Tong Qianjiang fired at him, he withdrew the saber. Blood gushed out, and he retreated.

Fang Dawei charged at him. He was coming at him from a different direction, so it looked like they intended to launch a pincer attack on him.

Chen Chuan watched the two robbers before he flicked his saber and retreated a few steps to a place with more junk on the floor.

Those things had fallen on the floor when the box shattered. Many of them were empty cans, ropes, and all sorts of tools. There were even severed limbs and shells that could serve as implants. Fang Dawei and his gang had kicked some of them away to clear the area where they fought, but a lot of it was left due to them not having much time.

This led to the two robbers running into various obstacles, which forced them to slow down against their will.

This brought Tong Qianjiang great agony. When he saw Tong Baitao dying, he wanted to run over and kill Chen Chuan, but all the junk was in his way. He screamed like a raging beast and kicked some of the stuff at Chen Chuan.

Chen Chuan remained calm and swept them away with the Frost King Saber. Tong Qianjiang was the first to reach him and lift his saber to cut him, so Chen Chuan brought his own blade up and blocked it with the back of the saber. When their weapons clashed, Tong Qianjiang’s saber immediately chipped.

Chen Chuan then repositioned his grip so he looked like he was wielding a spear. He parried Tong Qianjiang’s saber, turned his body to the side, and relaxed his shoulders and back. With only one hand holding the saber, he pushed it forward.

The saber plunged into Tong Qianjiang’s protective vest and sank into his stomach.

Tong Qianjiang stopped moving and slumped forward. When Fang Dawei saw this, he stopped.

Chen Chuan then brought his wrists up and walked forward. Tong Qianjiang grabbed the blade and stood on his toes as he retreated. After taking around ten steps back, he returned to the entrance of the guard post.

Chen Chuan pulled the saber out. With a shout, he grabbed the hilt with both hands and did a spinning slash.

Tong Qianjiang’s head flew up and out of the entrance before falling in the empty space outside. His headless body swayed a little before falling on the floor.
