Chapter 311: Night House

William had a cloak on, trying to hide his face from the other people. That was just a facade. He didn’t want to make it too apparent that he wasn’t concerned about the mysterious killer anymore.

If that happened, then it would be impossible to draw the killer. He chose one of the two taverns in the whole town. The criteria for his choosing was the one who looked better.

The price was cheap, as expected of such a small town. William felt a little out of place. Everyone kept looking at him no matter where he went. He spoke with a man in the bar while getting some drinks.

“They are staring simply because this town doesn’t get that many outsiders. It’s rare, you know,” a bald man said while drinking his beer at the bar’s counter, “but don’t worry about it. No one will do you any harm.”

“Good to know,” said William as he drank a beer too.

Nothing happened during the first day William arrived in that town. The information about his departure from the capital would take some time to reach the mysterious killer. Still, he knew that eventually, the assassin would show up.

William spent his night drinking in the bar underneath his rented room. The alcohol kept his body warm and relaxed his body. For someone as powerful as him to get drunk, well, it required a LOT of alcohol, so he wasn’t worried about that.

“I’ll go upstairs to rest,” William said to his drinking partner, the bald man.

But when he looked to the side, the bald man was on the ground, unconscious. He had drunk too much.

“Oh, my poor friend…”

The second floor of the tavern was where the rooms were. The same old tavern architecture.

William wasn’t expecting anything comfy and luxurious, but the room was far worse than he thought. The only thing there was a bed, which wasn’t that different from sleeping on the ground.

“At least I have a window,” William murmured.

But he didn’t get close to the window. Memories of what had happened to him the last time he got near a window popped into his mind.

“Better to avoid that…”

That night went horribly for William simply because the room he had was bad, and the constant idea of something following him, trying to kill him, kept creeping into his mind, making him lose sleep.

Nothing happened, though. The mysterious attacker didn’t show up to attack him.

William left the tavern and went to the front gate to speak with the guards who were taking care of it. There were two guards.

“Excuse me,” he said, “did you see if another outsider showed up during the night?”

He went early to the gate because it meant the guards would be the same ones who were on duty during the night.

The guards frowned and answered him with some aggression, “Why are you asking us this? You, as a citizen, are not allowed to know these

things.”

If it was the capital or any bigger city, William wouldn’t try to use his strength to get the information he wanted. But in that small town that barely had any guards? Why wouldn’t he?

He channeled his aura toward the guards like a focused beam. Both guards could barely breathe when confronted by his aura. That was how much more powerful he was when compared to them.

Confronted by his strength, the guards told him everything he wanted to know.

“We slept during the night, like, almost during the whole night, so we didn’t see if anyone came through the front gate,” one of the guards said, his body trembling.

William rolled his eyes at that. “I had a feeling something like this had happened…”

He was frustrated that the guards weren’t taking care of the front gate. Now, William was unsure if the mysterious attacker from the other night had entered the town during the late night.

The mysterious attacker certainly would try to enter during the night. The night would act as a cover, and it would be much harder for William to see it coming. He would, after all, be sleeping during the night.

“I could keep watch of the front gate, but it’s not like this assassin can’t enter through the other gate or even jump through the fence without making noises…” William thought.

The poor security of that small town made it difficult for William to know when the assassin would arrive. Not that he could, anyway. Someone hired to kill others certainly had the means to enter many places with stealth spells, so even if he could watch all the entrances, perhaps William wouldn’t see the assassin anyway.

The guard, realizing that William was frustrated, said, “You could ask around the city. Some places and people stay up into the late hours of the night, so they might have seen something.”

He shared the places that stayed open until late. One of them was a bar located close to the front gate, and the other was a night house.

It would be a gamble, but William had no other pressing commitments. He first went to the night house. A bar would have drunken people, so the night house had more chances of having someone who saw if the mysterious attacker entered the town.

William entered the night house. There were plenty of gorgeous ladies with their breasts exposed. He didn’t look too much, as he had other pressing things to do.

He searched for the person in charge. It was a muscular man with some tattoos.

“What do you want?” the man said.

The person in charge of the night house was acting rudely towards William, trying to intimidate him in some way. Perhaps he saw that he only had one arm and thought it was a good idea to act like that.

It was only fair that William beat his ass. He broke a few ribs of that man, as well as three of his teeth. William’s strength was overwhelming, and the man couldn’t do shit.

“I-I think one of my girls stayed outside during the whole night. She is responsible for dragging a man into my night house. You can talk to her!”

William let go of the man and left. The girl he talked about was already at her home, resting.
