Regardless of the answer, it didn’t matter. The quest was completed, and he was going to be rewarded accordingly.

“Fitting.” Michael laughed out loud. This was the primary ability of the Etrox race. Considering that they had proven to be such a nuisance from the beginning of the quest to the very end, it felt just right to acquire their main way of fighting.

“Let’s test it…” Summoning Devil’s Tongue, Michael threw it to the ground. Then he bore his eyes onto the blade and attempted to move it with his mind.

It felt like the spiritual energy around him obeyed as it warped around the soul weapon.

The sword stirred for a couple seconds before it took off in the air.

’Holy fuck!’ Devil’s Tongue remarked. ’Am I floating?! I am definitely floating!’

A second later the soul weapon noticed that the connection with his owner was still active despite not having physical contact.

’Fuck yes! How the hell are you doing this?’ Devil’s Tongue laughed joyfully.

Michael shrugged nonchalantly. “Got a new technique, nothing impressive really.”

The soul weapon was about to retort, yet halted, noticing that Michael’s body was still up in flames.

Abstaining from answering, Michael moved to the middle of the queen room and sat in a meditation position. Now that the Lords, Overlords, and the Monarch queen had fallen, their bodies began to release their spiritual energy in the air.

Sadly, however, that wasn’t going to be the case for long, as the Sacred flames were going to consume their corpses soon enough. Before that happened, Michael had to do his utmost best to absorb as much energy as he could, hopefully causing the flames raging across his body to disperse.

“If I go outside right now, I can foresee killing somebody I shouldn’t solely because they get on my nerves. It’s hard to keep a level head while you are burning, so I will focus on recovering for now.”

The soul weapon thought that it was reasonable. ’What am I supposed to do then?’

Michael sighed.

“You have repeatedly told me how you can evolve if you can get hold of millions of souls.”

Pointing backward to the entrance of the alien’s base, he continued.

“Well… Currently outside there are billions of little aliens ready to be slaughtered. Since the energy I am going to be absorbing now should be enough to keep you floating for a long time, you can go and have your fill.”

For a few seconds Devil’s Tongue remained silent.

’HAHAHA!’

Then as it erupted into manic laughter, the sword shot to where the two armies were still battling, anticipating a great buffet.

’Souls! This is the day I ascend from a mere Epic status and enter the Legendary rank!’

Being given full control by Michael, the weapon floated out from the alien base in a timely manner. It didn’t take long to encounter the two armies that were still battling each other.

With their queen dead, Ro’trah entered into a frenzy. Gone were their organized ranks as they began to fly in every direction, devouring everything in sight.

Under normal circumstances that should have proven beneficial for the human army. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. Due to their sheer numbers, it meant that the Ro’trah had become even more unpredictable than before.

It was pointless to try and predict their flying trajectory, as the creatures themselves didn’t know how they were going to act!

Numerous soldiers found themselves close to death’s door. Yet before they could meet their maker, something unimaginable happened in front of their eyes.

Slash!

A flying greatsword tore through the alien’s ranks like butter. Since the soul weapon didn’t need to worry about being devoured, unlike the soldiers and mechas, Devil’s Tongue practically got full rein over the battlefield.

Swush!

Starting to move in circular patterns, the weapon rained hell over the Ro’trah ranks, killing hundreds of creatures every second.

“This must be an act of God!” One of the soldiers bellowed, inspired by the flying weapon.

With their spirits ignited, the soldiers pushed back harder against the alien threat.

Their death toll continued to rise, as did the aliens’.

Back at the queen’s lair, Michael had devoted himself to absorbing as much spiritual energy as he could. Most of the power was going toward mending his wounds, while the rest went to keep the soul weapon floating.

Eventually, once enough time passed, the Sacred flames finally subsided. Although they took the corpses of the aliens and cultivators with them, at the very least Michael was whole again, even if he hadn’t ascended his realm.

Just as he opened his eyes, he heard the voice of his soul weapon. His new technique, Psychokinesis, allowed them to speak from a long distance after all.

’I can feel it… I have evolved.’

Yet the next second the weapon was forced to halt as a powerful shockwave swept the whole area.

A silhouette had descended from the sky like a meteor, crashing on the surface of the planet.

The aliens instinctively intensified their rampage, scared by the new arrival.

’What was that?!’ Getting a bad feeling, Michael pressed the soul weapon for answers, as it was closer to the battlefield than he was.

’A man suddenly appeared over the sky. Considering that he feels much stronger than a Lord, I’d wager he’s a King… And he is currently running towards your direction full force.’
