Chapter 294: A Leap of Faith

Before Michael had lost consciousness, he had seen the system notification that his soul weapon had managed to evolve to the Mythic rank. However, now bearing witness to the result of the said evolution, he was understandably taken by surprise.

After a few seconds he chuckled.

“You kind of saved me… So I guess you are indeed amazing.”

Michael’s eyes narrowed.

“But Devil? Aren’t you going to ask your owner for his opinion?”

Devil didn’t even blink.

“No.”

Honestly, Michael didn’t blame the weapon. He indeed had a questionable naming sense.

With a sigh, his gaze shifted to the barely alive corpse.

Since Devil had been awfully considerate, he had left the man’s right ear and tongue intact, just enough to answer questions. As for his eyes, they were gone, robbing him of his sight.

“If you want a quick death, answer truthfully.” Michael said coldly.

There wasn’t even a hint of retaliation from Malice as he answered everything at a moment’s notice.

The more the man spoke, the more primal fury surged within Michael’s soul. He had thought he’d made a misstep, inciting the Emperor’s wrath. But as it turned out, all of this had happened because of Oliver and Isaac… Two insignificant people he hadn’t even bothered to consider.

One thing was for certain. When the time came to erase the Immortal Legion from existence, Michael wasn’t going to show any kind of mercy.

“He is yours.” He said, after finishing interrogating Malice.

Instantly Devil moved, his claw tearing the man’s chest apart, taking hold of his still beating heart in grasp.

With amusement, his claw closed, crushing Malice’s heart, letting him drop lifelessly to the ground.

“Oh, how good it is to have a physical body!” Devil exclaimed in pure delight.

“Now nothing can stop me. I can drink, I can kill single-handedly, and the best part… I can fool with women to my heart’s content!”

His laughter echoed across the body of the Titan.

“Yeah, about that…”

Michael pointed downward.

“Sorry to break it to you, but the last thing doesn’t seem feasible at the moment.”

With a furrowed brow, Devil looked down, only to freeze in place.

“Why is it smooth?! Where is my manhood?! This has to be a fucking joke! How can a Devil who thrives on slaughter and profanities like myself attain a physical body without the most important limb?!”

Indeed, the universe often played cruel jokes like that… The one thing you wanted most was often the hardest to attain.

“Michael!”

Devil’s pupil shot up, locking onto his owner with a pleading gaze.

“Partner… You have to help me! If I had to guess, everything missing would appear at my next evolution. What’s the next rank?!”

Michael sighed.

“The ranking for techniques and weapons goes as follows: Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythic, Supreme, and finally Celestial. Since you’re Mythic now, the next step would be Supreme. But you have no idea how difficult it is to reach that stage, especially considering you’re still classified as a soul weapon.”

Faster than a heartbeast, Devil placed both of his bloody claws on Michael’s shoulders.

“Then make me Supreme! I don’t care how, just do it!”

With a heavy heart, Michael was about to explain the difficulties of such a request… until something appeared before his eyes.

He took a deep breath.

“Okay, I promise to do what I can.”

Seemingly content, Devil let him go, his gaze shifting to the wound on Michael’s chest.

“By the way, I don’t know what dagger that fucker used, but even now you’re leaking spiritual energy, and the wound is still bleeding.”

He paused briefly.

“As things are going, you’ll die. So take care of that first.”

Naturally, this wasn’t news to Michael. He knew his body better than anyone.

“It’s not like there is much I can do.” Michael shrugged.

Silently, he approached Victoria and gently scooped her body in a princess carry. There was a slight frown on her peerless face from the hard blow she had endured, yet her presence remained as breathtaking as ever.

To think Oliver not only sided with Malice but, according to the assassin, had even planned to brainwash her… Michael would make sure Oliver experienced the most horrifying death imaginable.

Throwing a glance toward Devil, Michael spoke.

“My gut tells me you’re exhausted, and I won’t be able to rely on you to get out of here.”

Devil grinned.

“Don’t blame me. I’d need a day or two of slumber to recover. Still, you can always use me in my sword form if things get that dire. Just don’t expect me to be speaking in your head in the meantime.”

No sooner that Devil spoken those words, he entered Michael’s soul. The constant buzzing of the Ro’trah’s wings overhead was deafening his ears.

With no other option, Michael pulled Victoria close, protecting her with his body, before charging forward.

If there was an upside to his spiritual energy being nearly depleted, with one foot and a half in the grave, it was that the minions would have a harder time detecting him.

Of course, before going through with his almost suicidal plan, Michael looted Malice’s corpse. Since the Emperor had been cautious, he’d ensured that the man’s Mythic dagger and necklace would shatter upon death. However, the same couldn’t be said for the cloak, which still possessed the ability of obstructing presence.

With the Titan being pursued by the faction leaders, Michael knew he would be caught in the crossfire and die in the process.

So utilizing the cloak to further conceal him, Michael sprinted toward the edge of the fleeing Titan before fearlessly leaping away.

His foot landed on a flying Ro’trah. Instantly, his leg flexed before pushing off for another leap.

Relying on his sculpted body, Michael leaped from one alien to the next, each jump bringing him closer to the warship. The vast expanse of the cosmos underneath, threatening to swallow him whole on the slightest misstep.

Although a few aliens took notice of him and left deep marks on his back with their sharp claws, they didn’t pursue. Deeming protecting their queen far more important than chasing.

“This was insane… even by my standards.” Michael muttered tiredly, his feet landing on the hull of the warship.

Although a large part of the vessel was now in ruins, there were still soldiers fighting fearlessly, while the number of Ro’trah had noticeably thinned out.

“First thing…”

Michael nodded after ensuring Victoria was unharmed and still breathing.

“Good… now I have to check up on the others…”

Unable to utter a word, his body gave in, collapsing on the spot.

Meanwhile, across the large hull of the warship, a petite woman wielding a large hammer was moving swiftly. After Michael and Victoria abruptly disappeared from the defense circle, things had quickly turned ugly.

Still, they had managed to endure. With the pressure easing, Ava, the fastest among them, had already begun searching for them.

“Michael! Victoria!”

Ava shouted amid the chaos.

Finally, her eyes managed to spot the two lying bodies at the ship’s edge.

Without hesitation, Ava dashed toward them.

Victoria was fine, but…

Ava’s eyes narrowed to the size of needles in pure terror.

“Michael isn’t breathing!”
