“What happened after you lost consciousness?” Aelua repeated the question with a slight frown on her face, unsure what to say at this very moment.
“Well, nothing much. I came to your rescue, and the king simply apologized for what had just happened with the Super Soldier. He told everyone that it was a mistake and that it would never happen again.”
Lying down in the bed, I nodded. It seemed his announcement had ended shortly after I had tanked the Aether-infused lightning strike.
“I see. Did Aldin or Laura try anything when I lost my consciousness?”
“No. They acted very thankful for the actions you had taken since you had just saved a lot of the nobles. Most people within the elven territory now see you in a good light.”
“And what do you think about the Super Soldier? Did you notice anything strange?”
I was almost sure that Zero had been turned into an Undead. However, I wanted to get Aelua’s opinion on the matter since she was the most knowledgeable when it comes to those subjects.
“Hm. My guess is that they used a strange spell that brought Zero back to ‘life’. He isn’t able to think anymore. However, he still retained his powers. What Aldin said was true. As long as they are able to make more of these Soldiers, then no one in the entire universe would be able to deal with them.”
“I thought that he was an Undead. What do you think?”
“Um. Maybe. There’s a chance that would be the case, however, I’m not well versed enough in the subject to guarantee that to you.” Aelua already knew where I was going with this as she added, “You’re not thinking of trying to find ‘her’, right?”
I shrugged. “I don’t really have a choice, do I? She’s the strongest person I know and when it comes to undeads. And if we wait some more time, then it’ll reach a situation where we won’t be able to do anything. I don’t know how much time I have, so we need to move fast.”
“Meh… she disappeared. No one has even heard of her in the past three years. Do you really think you’ll be able to find her?”

“Probably. And if I don’t, then we will lose the war against the demons. I can’t deal with Undeads. We just need to hope that whatever spell they are using to make those Super Soldiers is costly and they can’t mass-produce Undeads like Zero. If they can, then this is already a lost cause. If they turn some of the most powerful humans who died into Undeads, then there will be nothing that we can do.”
“When are you planning to leave?” Aelua asked.
I could see the worry in her eyes. After all, it wouldn’t be an easy task to find her… some people said she had left on a pilgrimage. Others said she was dead. Others said she had left for the realm of Gods.
There were tons of rumors about her. However, I didn’t believe she had died or left for some other realm. She was definitely still in this world, she was just hiding.
“Right now. I’m leaving right now for the God’s Temple. They should have a better idea of where she left.”
That was my first destination, a kingdom for believers. I had heard of it three years ago before she had disappeared. Her last words were that she was heading there to get a deeper connection with the God she believed in.
That’s around the same time that rumors about her disappearance started to spread around the world.
“Right now? But you’re still hurt… and what about your friend that was captured by the demons? Weren’t you going to save her right away…”
Aelua was shocked, as her eyelids kept fluttering. Her arms even started trembling slightly.
“I want to help her, but this comes first. If things really develop like Aldin announced, then this could very well result in the end of the world. While I care about Amelia very much, I have my priorities. Also, I’m sure she’s fine, she’s not the kind to be broken so easily… and I don’t believe that the demons would be stupid enough to touch an hair on her body. Otherwise, they would have to face my hatred… and since Laura didn’t try anything against me even when I lost consciousness. I have a feeling that they have an order to not hurt me, or at the very least, not to kill me.”
That was the conclusion I had come to with the recent events. The amount of times Laura could have killed me were in the dozens, and still, nothing happened. I had also noticed that she wanted to get her revenge. I had killed her brother, after all.
However, even then, the worse she had done was having a sword against my throat and making me bleed slightly when she could have killed me.
The Demon King was scared of me… However, I had a feeling that it wasn’t actually me but someone who I had once been close to, my master.
I could certainly understand why he would be scared since I was also scared of that man. Even if I believed he would never hurt me, if things went wrong, then things could become… weird for the world. Let’s put it at that.
My master.
It had been over five years since he had disappeared out of nowhere, leaving only a simple note behind.
‘Your training is now over. Have fun and don’t become a monster like me. Keep smiling through the pain.’
I could still remember vividly the content of that note. The day where I was left all alone and where I began to conquer the battlefield by myself, shocking everyone, my foes and comrades.
***
It had been a week since I had left the Elven Territory.
I had finally reached the desert. It was unending. No matter where I looked, all I could see was sand going on for thousands of kilometers. The sheer size of the desert would make it very hard to find my friend. She could be literally anywhere in here. I just hoped that she wasn’t anywhere that could not be seen with the naked eye.
From where I was standing, I could already see a huge temple not too far away from where I was standing. Maybe a few kilometers away.
It was actually a small city in the desert where devotees for the God of the Sun gathered. The very same god who my friend was devoted to.
“Let’s go, Aelua.”
She had insisted on coming with me. And I had wanted to refuse at first, but I had accepted at the end. However, she was struggling to follow me because of how fast I was traveling.
“W-Wait…” Her breathing was rugged and rough. “Can’t we just take a five-minute break? Please…”
“I told you already. I can take you in my arms, or you can walk. I am not waiting for you.”
She clicked her tongue as she pushed herself up, staggering as she got on her feet, almost falling down right away.
“Are you that you’re okay to continue?”
I knew that she was in a very bad shape. However, I couldn’t waste time taking care of her, which is why I was pushing her to her very limits. I knew that it was not a nice thing to do. But it wasn’t my fault that she had followed me all the way here.
“I-It’s fine…” she muttered as she staggered forward, one of her hands landing on my shoulder.
Seeing her state, I decided to go against her wishes as I grabbed her by placing one of my hands against the nape of her neck and the other around her slender legs. I picked her up as if she was as light as a feather.
“Ahh!”
She released a cute little shout, her face turning bright red out of embarrassment.
“Hold on tight.”
While saying that, I flew up and headed toward the small city of devotees. I could only hope they would be able to help me… Otherwise, finding her would be practically impossible.
Landing in the middle of the city making quite a bit of noise. I felt a lot of gazes land on me, observing me, wondering what I was doing here.
“I’m not an enemy. I’m trying to find my friend. She told me a while ago to come here if I ever needed her for something. So, here am I. You might know her as Evangeline Ashworth,” I practically shouted in the middle of the small city.
Then, sure enough, guards appeared before me.
“You will have to come with us.”
I sighed. ‘Why is it that whenever I go somewhere, I always get arrested… wouldn’t it be easier if they listened to what I had to say?’
“Alright, please make it quick. I don’t have all day.”
