Be careful of my… master?
I frowned as I stopped walking forward.
I stood there before him for what seemed to be a minute, my skin burning because of how close the sun was. My mind was going in all kinds of directions, trying to understand why a God, out of all people, would make such a comment.
When I regained consciousness of my surroundings, we were no longer in a white, endless room. But instead, on a beach with an umbrella to cover me.
The Sun God was no longer hundreds of meters away from me but right beside me, staring at me with a curious glance, the same one as before.
“Have you finally woken up from your thoughts?”
“My thoughts…? I’ve only been here for five minutes at most.”
“Hm… is that so? You’ve been in this same position for more than three hours now.” He smiled in my direction to comfort me. “I was worried you would burn because of the heat. So, I changed the atmosphere.”
“Three hours… I was thinking for more than three hours?” I frowned, trying to remember what had just been going through my mind. But every time I did, nothing would come up. I was just as lost as before.
“Did I say anything?” I suddenly asked God.
“You were murmuring some words, but nothing that would help you remember.”
I checked to see if he was telling the truth, and he was.
“Are you the one who did something to my body?”
“Possibly, when I mentioned your master. You seem to have a reaction that was completely different from what I had anticipated; it was as if you were possessed, standing there in the middle of the room.”
Hearing those words, I raised one of my eyebrows.
The Sun God had just said that three hours had passed since I had entered his personal environment, no matter how hard I tried. I could not remember what had happened.
There was something strange about him. Something he wasn’t telling me.
“Did we talk at all during the past three hours?”
“Somewhat. But it’s not conversations you should be aware of at the time being.”
That confirmed it.
This was his doing. He was the one who had played a trick on my mind. Who else but a God could have achieved something like this?
“We talked about my master? Is that it? What’s so important about him that a God is warning me about it? How do you even know of him in the first place?” I said, taking a step forward toward the Sun God, now within arm’s reach. “Tell me right now what we just talked about.”
I placed my index against his chest, applying enough pressure on it for the Sun God to start bleeding slightly.
However, when I looked at his expression, he was still smiling with the same curious gaze as before. He was looking down at me as if I was a newborn who he could manipulate in whatever way he wanted.
I hated it.
Being looked down upon.
I despised it so much that I wanted to kill him right now.
But I couldn’t. Once again, my strength was lacking.
Maybe that was why he was so scared of my master. Considering his strength, there was a chance he would be able to deal with Gods. Maybe that was why he had warned me about him. He was scared for his own life. There were too many strange things about this situation. I simply could not begin to grasp them.
“I won’t tell you what we talked about. But just know that you will remember when the time is right. That is all I will say. Now, I think it’s about time we talk about the reason you came all the way to my temple, Evangeline. You want to know where she is, right?”
‘I will remember when the time is right…? What kind of bullshit is that.’
Still, I knew that he would not budge, and I could not force him to reveal what we talked about. So, I nodded at his words.
“Alright, tell me where she is then,” my tone dry and commanding.
God continued to smile as I ordered him to do something. “You will find her inside the Desert. She is currently looking for a hidden treasure that belonged to me when I was still a human. I was the one who sent her to look for it more than three years ago.”
“Oh, the desert?” I nodded repetitively. “Is that so? I’ll find her in the Desert. Wow. That’s just great. Thanks a lot for the precise indications of where I could find her. Real nice of ya.”
I took a deep breath. “Hey, dumbfuck. If I had been looking for such a vague answer, I wouldn’t have come to you. Tell me precisely where she is. I can’t waste months trying to find her in this endless Desert. Give me a map or something, I don’t know.”
“Hahaha!” The God suddenly bursted out laughing right in my face. “When you act like this, you really remind me of him.”
“Him? Are you talking about my master again? You’ve met him before?”
The words came out of my mouth on their own. This made no sense. My master should not have been in contact with any Gods. At least, not to my knowledge, so I was it that the Sun God was acting as if he knew him well.
‘Should I try to find him once I’m done with finding Evangeline?’
“No. Don’t look for him. He’ll come see you if he deems it necessary. Not that you would be able to find him in the first place.”
My frown deepened as my fists clenched. “You can read my mind? And why are you talking as if you’re good friends with my master? This doesn’t make any sense. He never met you, for all I know. He never even talked about the Gods. He always said something along the lines of you guys being utterly useless. He despised all of you.”
The Sun God did not answer right away, his head turning toward the sun as he let himself bathe under the scorching heat.
However, I did not interrupt him. He seemed to be reminiscing memories, memories from a long time ago.
“Some things happened…” He muttered, followed with a sigh. “But I will tell you this. I know your master a lot better than you, and I’m serious when I say that you should be careful.”
He shook his head as he snapped his finger, a strange purple cube appearing in his hands. “Here, with this you will be able to find Evangeline. Just insert some Aether into it, and it will guide you to where she is. However, let me warn you. There is a good chance that she will refuse to help you, especially considering how close she is to finding my remnants.”
All sorts of thoughts entered my mind as the God kept talking as I mindlessly held onto the purple cube.
I was trying to make sense of his words. To be more precise, the ones about my master.

Now that I thought about it, I did not know my master’s age. I actually did not know much about him. Every time I asked him about his past, he dodged the questions naturally, never making me notice.
He was like me, always hiding his past from those around him, never saying anything. Maybe that was why he had chosen me as his disciple. He had seen himself in me… but for him to know the Sun God, quite well at that. There was a chance that my master was someone from his generation.
“My master. How did you meet him? Did you meet him like you and I are meeting, or were you friends with him?”
I could myself get closer to an answer. I was close to figuring out key information about him.
“Friends? I don’t know if he would consider me his friend. Especially after what happe-” The Sun God stopped talking, realizing he was speaking to me. “It was different. Let’s just put it at that.”
“Anyway, it was a good talk. But it’s time for you to leave this place. You have received what you came to get from me.”
With that, the Sun God snapped his fingers, and my vision went blurry at the same time. And when I regained it, I was on the ground of the temple, being gawked at like an animal in a zoo.
Aelua, in particular, seemed to be very interested in what had just happened as she was only a few inches from my face, her warm breath brushing against my face.
“Can I get some room to breathe?” I asked with a frown.
However, instead of listening to me, Aelua was looking at something in my arms, reaching out to it.
“What is that?” She said as she pointed at the purple cube.
