Chapter 139: The Revenge
Sofia didn’t flinch. She reached for a paper towel and dried her hands with slow, composed movements. She looked at Elena’s reflection in the mirror, her eyes cold. “If you are that important to Damien,” Sofia said, her voice thick with mockery, “you shouldn’t have to follow his mate into a bathroom just to feel powerful.”
Elena’s face contorted with rage. In a flash of Alpha speed, she reached out and grabbed a handful of Sofia’s hair, jerking her head back. Sofia’s wolf howled in her mind, a roar of white-hot power that wanted to tear Elena’s throat out.
Let me out! Her wolf screamed. She will pay for touching us!
But Sofia pushed the power down, burying it deep. She knew Elena only saw a plus-sized, “normal” wolf—a weak link in Damien’s life. If she shifted or showed her true strength now, the Rogue King’s spies and everyone in the restaurant would know she was the White Wolf. She had to play the victim a little longer.
”Listen to me, you little charity case,” Elena hissed, leaning into Sofia’s ear. “Damien is playing a game, and you’re just the board he’s playing on. He’s here with me because I have what he needs. Once he’s done with you, he’ll come back to a real Alpha. Stay out of his way, or I’ll make sure you disappear.”
Elena shoved Sofia toward the sinks and smoothed her own hair in the mirror, letting out a satisfied huff before walking out.
Sofia stood there for a moment, breathing hard. Her scalp stung, but straightened her dress, wiped the last of the moisture from her eyes, and walked back into the dining room.
As she sat back down in the booth, she noticed Damien’s eyes tracking her every move, his jaw tight with worry. Elena was already back at his table, leaning in close to him and conversing as if nothing had happened.
Sofia turned her attention to Bella, who was watching the scene with a smug, hidden grin. Sofia decided it was time for her own kind of revenge.
Elena reached for her wine glass, her fingers curling around the stem… She tried to lift it to her lips, but it wouldn’t budge. It felt as if it were part of the heavy oak table. Elena frowned, her brow furrowing in confusion. She gave it a harder tug, and suddenly it snapped free, nearly splashing wine onto her expensive dress.
”Is everything alright?” Damien asked, his voice tight. He had been watching Sofia, noticing the strange, intense focus in her eyes.
”Fine,” Elena huffed, her heart racing. “Just a clumsy moment.”
Damien turned his attention back to business, though his heart was still at Sofia’s table. “Thank you for the help with the analysts, Elena. I’ll expect that file tonight.”
”You’re welcome, Damien,” Elena purred, trying to regain her composure. “I always deliver.”
Damien immediately opened a Mind Link to Sofia, his voice desperate and thick with regret. Sofia, please. Don’t believe what you see. I will explain everything to you tonight. She is only helping me with a security matter regarding Bella.
Sofia didn’t even blink. She ignored the link entirely, slamming her mental thought-shields shut. She took a slow sip of her water and focused again.
Elena decided she had enough of the tension and began to gather her purse. “Well, I should get going. My team is waiting.” She tried to stand up, but she didn’t move. She jerked her body upward, but it felt like her dress and her skin were glued to the seat.
She frowned and tried again, using her Alpha strength to pull herself up. Nothing. She was stuck fast.
Damien noticed she looked strange, her face turning a deep shade of red as she struggled silently. “Elena? Is something the matter?”
”I… I can’t leave my seat,” Elena hissed, her voice low and embarrassed. She yanked again, the chair creaking under the pressure, but she stayed exactly where she was.
Damien’s eyes flew to Sofia. She was calmly cutting a piece of steak, a tiny, satisfied smirk playing on her lips. He realized immediately what was happening. Only a wolf with ancient, high-level power—White Wolf power—could pin an Alpha to a chair without touching them.
”Who the fuck is using their magic on me?” Elena snarled, looking around the room at the other diners, her eyes glowing amber with rage. She never even looked at Sofia; she couldn’t imagine a “normal” wolf doing this.
Damien quickly Mind Linked Sofia again, his tone full of concern. Sofia, stop this. What are you doing? You’re going to cause a scene and blow your cover.
Sofia finally looked up, her blue eyes meeting Damien’s across the room. She didn’t respond in his mind. Instead, she just raised her glass to him in a silent, icy toast before turning back to Bella.
Elena finally lost her composure. She didn’t just tug; she roared. “Who is fucking with me?!” she screamed, her voice echoing off the high ceilings of the restaurant.
The quiet chatter of the dining room stopped instantly. Silverware clattered against plates as every head turned toward the commotion. People began to whisper, pointing at the powerful Alpha who was currently red-faced and twitching in her seat.
Elena tried one more desperate heave, her muscles bulging under her expensive sleeves, but the White Wolf’s grip was like iron. The booth actually groaned, the wood beginning to splinter under the sheer force of her struggle, yet she remained pinned down as if she were part of the furniture.
The manager, a nervous-looking middle-aged man in a tuxedo, hurried over with his hands raised in a soothing gesture. “Alpha Elena? Is… is everything alright? Is there a problem with the service?”
”The service?!” Elena hissed, her eyes glowing in rage. “I am stuck! Someone in this room is using high-level sorcery or mental binding on me! Search everyone! Now!”
The manager looked around the room, totally lost. “Sorcery? Ma’am, this is a Neutral Pack establishment. We don’t allow hostile magic…”
”Well, it’s happening!” Elena barked. She looked like a trapped animal, her dignity crumbling with every second she spent glued to the velvet cushion.
Damien sat perfectly still, his heart thundering. He could feel the cold, sharp edge of Sofia’s power vibrating through the air. It was beautiful and terrifying. He looked at Sofia, who was delicately chewing a piece of steak, looking like the picture of innocence.
Sofia, please, Damien tried again through the Mind Link, his voice thick with a mix of worry and forced calm. If the manager calls the Neutral Pack guards, they’ll bring in dampeners. They’ll realize the power is coming from you. Let her go before you get caught.
Sofia didn’t even twitch. She reached out and patted Bella’s hand, her voice soft but loud enough for the manager to hear. “Oh dear, it sounds like that poor woman is having some kind of… mental breakdown? Maybe she’s just had too much wine, Bella?”
Bella, who already knew it was Sofia’s doing, smirked.
Elena’s head snapped toward Sofia’s table, her frown deepening. She still didn’t think it was Sofia, but the mockery in the girl’s voice was the final straw. “You! You fat little brat, you think this is funny?!”
Sofia slowly put her fork down and looked Elena dead in the eye. The temperature in the restaurant seemed to drop ten degrees. “I think,” Sofia said clearly, “that you should learn to keep your hands off other people’s hair. It’s bad for your reputation.”
