Chapter 74: You Just Want To Fuck Me
Alpha Alaric turned back to Sofia, his eyes raking over her chest as it heaved with jagged breaths. “Can you walk? Or do I need to carry you?”
Sofia’s cheeks reddened as she shook her head. “That won’t be necessary.”
Alpha Alaric grunted; he wished she had said otherwise.
”Let’s go then,” he said, leading the way.
”No… wait…” Sofia’s mother screamed, but all Sofia did was stare back at her. She made a mental note that, from that moment on, she had no mother.
Outside, a car was waiting. Alpha Alaric opened the door and Sofia went in before he entered.
Alaric didn’t say a word as the car pulled away from the cellar, but his eyes were fixed on the angry red welts circling Sofia’s wrists. The sight of the rope burns on her soft skin made his wolf snarl in the back of his mind. He reached out, his large, warm hand covering both of hers.
”You aren’t healing,” he noted, his brow furrowing in deep frustration. A wolf of her age should have seen those marks fade in minutes.
Sofia looked down at their joined hands, her full lips pressed into a thin line. “I haven’t shifted yet. I don’t have my wolf’s strength to heal me. I’m just… human, for now.”
”When is your transition?” Alaric asked, his voice full of genuine concern.
”Tomorrow,” she whispered, a flicker of anxiety crossing her face. “It’s my twentieth birthday.”
Alaric’s eyes widened slightly. “Your twentieth birthday,” he repeated, his voice thick with emotion. “That is a significant day for a shifter. Tell me, little bird… what do you want? What is the one thing you desire most?”
Sofia let out a short, bitter scoff and looked out the window at the passing trees. “It doesn’t matter what I want. I’ve learned not to hope for things.”
”Mention anything,” Alaric pressed, his grip on her hands tightening slightly, drawing her attention back to him. “Gold, jewels, the head of your enemies—name it, and it is yours.”
Sofia turned her head, her blue eyes meeting his with a heartbreaking honesty. “I want my freedom, Alpha Alaric. I want to leave this pack, leave the memories of Lola, and leave the man who treats me like a criminal. But unfortunately, you can’t give me that. I’m a slave to the Full Moon Pack.”
Before she could blink, Alaric reached out and hooked his arm around her curvy waist. With one powerful tug, he pulled her across the seat and onto his lap.
Sofia gasped, her voluptuous hips settling against his rock-hard thighs. Her ample chest pressed against his chest as she instinctively gripped his shoulders to steady herself. The car felt suddenly very small, and the scent of him—leather and dark spice—filled her senses.
”Don’t underestimate a King, Sofia,” he whispered, his face inches from hers, his eyes dark with a promise that made her heart gallop. He brushed a thumb over the bruise on her wrist, his touch surprisingly tender. “I will give you your freedom. I will take you with me when I leave this territory, and no one—not Damien, not your mother, not the law—will be able to touch you again.”
”Why?” she breathed, her voice trembling. “Why would you do that for me?”
”Because,” Alaric rasped, his gaze dropping to her mouth. “I think I like you.”
Sofia frowned. “You don’t like me,” she whispered, her voice hardening with a bitter edge. She looked down at where her hips pressed against him, feeling the rigid heat of his arousal through his trousers. “You just want to fuck me. You want to have a taste of the slave before you return back to your pack. If that’s all this is, then why don’t you just do it and get it over with?”
Driven by a sudden, desperate anger, she began fumbling with the zipper of her dress, her hands shaking. “Take what you want, Alpha. Isn’t that what you powerful men do?”
”Sofia, stop,” Alaric growled. He didn’t just ask; his large hands shot out, firmly gripping her wrists to halt her movements. His brow was furrowed in a deep, pained frown.
”Yes,” he rasped, his eyes dark with a raw honesty that startled her. “I am turned on just by the sight of you. My cock is hardened just by having you on my lap. I am sexually attracted to you—I’d be a liar to say otherwise. But Sofia, that doesn’t mean I just want to fuck you. My feelings for you are way more than that.”
He let out a shaky breath, his gaze dropping for a moment. “Since five years ago, after losing my wife… you are the first woman I have been attracted to. You don’t understand how much that terrifies me.”
Sofia’s eyes widened, her anger vanishing as quickly as it had arrived. “Your wife? You… you lost your wife?”
”Yes,” he said shortly, his jaw tightening. “And I don’t want to talk about it.”
Gently, but with a firmness that felt like a rejection, he lifted her off his lap and placed her back on the leather seat beside him. He turned his head to stare out the window.
Sofia felt a sharp pang of guilt in her chest. She had pushed him too far, insulted a man who had just saved her life from her own mother. She watched him, seeing the way his muscles remained tense.
Alaric was wrestling with his own demons; he was nearly twice her age, a High King, and he was falling for a girl who belonged to his nephew.
The silence in the car became suffocating. Sofia thought his silence meant he was furious with her. Trembling, she reached out, her fingers catching his strong, stubbled chin. She forced him to turn back and look her way.
”I’m sorry,” she whispered, her full lips parted. “I shouldn’t have said those things. I’m just… I’m not used to anyone wanting me for more than my body.”
Alaric looked at her then, his emerald eyes searching hers. He saw the genuine regret in her gaze, and the wall he had built around his heart for five years began to crumble. The way she held his face, her touch so soft against his rugged skin, was the final straw.
”Sofia,” he groaned, his voice a low warning.
”I mean it,” she said, her thumb grazing his lower lip.
The contact was electric. Alaric didn’t fight it anymore. He leaned in, his hand cupping the back of her neck, and crashed his lips onto hers.
Sofia gasped into the kiss, her body melting toward him. Alaric kissed her gently, passionately, and tenderly with so much experience. Sofia, who hadn’t had much experience, had to follow his lead.
