“Auntie Pam, what is it?” I asked, answering Pam’s call, knowing that she wouldn’t call me without a proper reason.

“What’s with so many people on the estate? Is Dee3 throwing a housewarming party or something? Anyway, your uncle is sitting in the driveway, on his beer cooler, holding his shotgun loaded with buckshot, reminding the everyone it’s his property,” Pam informed with a very concerned tone.

The guests attending Dee3’s party had some of the finest cars she had seen and were dressed formally enough to make her feel like a country hick, but some were also dressed like they were in a zombie apocalypse movie. She was worried these gentlemen would be offended and provoked by Dan’s actions, which could spiral into unnecessary trouble they could have avoided.

“I can’t catch a break today. Auntie Pam, just make up an excuse and get Uncle Dan into the house. I will be right there and explain everything to you guys,” I exclaimed, then turning to Lyra I said, “It looks like you have everything here under control. Continue the good work. I have another fire to put out right away.”

As I rushed out of Dee3’s dungeon, I felt that the funeral arrangements were just too perfect. Even the empty servant villa was not only fully furnished now but repainted. I know I was gone for a while to get Mr. Birdie’s prosthetics, but it wasn’t that long. This level of efficiency was not something my elder sister could pull off even on her best days. Something was clearly amiss here. I decided not to care about it thinking she might have taken help from the McSuiles. After all, they were lending their professional cooks to cook for the funeral.

Arriving outside, I heard Janice scolding, “Lilith, are you doing this just to make me mad?” Janice used her magic mirror curse tool to clean Lilith and her dress for the nth time.

It’s not that Janice was a bad mother, but she was a perfectionist living by the words, ’If you doing something, do it better.’ She taught Lilith the basic etiquette, but the latter failed to apply it. Leaving her ‌feeling that Lilith was doing it on purpose.

I hurried over and picked up Lilith, carrying in my arms. As I informed Janice, “I will have my mom babysit her. She doesn’t seem to feel comfortable in the dress or the crowd.”

“That’s for the best. Do you need my help with anything?” Janice agreed with my proposal and offered her help. She Lilith was just as unruly as her cousin.

“Find out who leaked the information on Dee3 and the funeral. Also, why didn’t your people turn these guests away, saying they were mistaken or claimed the information was false?” I requested Janice while informing her that her family’s security seriously dropped the ball on this one.

“To your right, that old blonde lady in the black leather jacket. She isn’t just any random sky-tier. She is the curse engineer in charge of maintaining the presidential curse fleet. She is not supposed to leave the capital and be available 24/7 to supervise the presidential fleet. Yet, tonight she is here. Do you know why?

She is Madam Dee3’s old colleague. They only worked for a couple of months, but it is believed she asked Dee3 out almost a hundred times and got rejected each time. That is like getting shot down twice in a day for two months straight. How do you want my people to turn someone with her authority and her past with Dee3 away? She isn’t even the scariest one of them, but just with the sauciest story.

As long as your uncle doesn’t start hurling slurs, beer cans, or bullets, we are fine. But you are right, we need to find who leaked Madam Dee3’s whereabouts and the funeral. Those bastards better not be planning to stir up something,” Janice explained her difficulties and agreed they needed to find the culprit responsible for the leak.

As for the guests, they had gathered here of their own violations out of their own and mutual respect for Dee3. So they could afford to be a little uncomfortable and wait till Dee3 was ready i.e. if they wanted to meet her. After all, they were all free to leave.

“What about Elinor? Is she going to be alright?” I asked in concern, as many curse users had gathered here. Though they all mostly worked for the government in some capacity, their relation with the McSuile family on other hand was questionable. This would be a great opportunity to harm the budding Curse Caster of the McSuile family.

“Don’t worry, I had Dee3 modify the curse array a little to protect Elinor. Unless they are a void-tier skilled in curse arrays, they can’t conspire against her without alerting us,” Janice answered, eyeing Lilith, as it was she who reminded her about Elinor. Janice and the rest had totally forgotten about her cousin, who was hidden in ‌plain sight by her grass barrier type cause tool well-versed in camouflage.

“That’s a load off my mind. But just in case, be on guard. We have no idea what whoever leaked the funeral information to all these people is conspiring,” I sighed, as things to worry about piled on in my mind.

“Relax, young man. We got it covered.” A voice from behind me sounded, trying to assure me. It was Matthews. She appeared to have too many questions about how and when I managed to steal the curse prosthetics. However, I didn’t give her the opportunity to do so, thanking her, “Thank you, Mrs. Martins. My family needs me, let us continue later.” I fled the scene with Lilith in my arms as if I were being chased by the devil himself.
