Chapter 74: Ch 74: A God’s End (2)
The battlefield lay in ruin.
Aegis stood with the God-Killer Trident in hand, his chest rising and falling with steady breaths, his eyes cold and unyielding.
Around him, the remnants of the battle were visible: broken stone, shattered Titans, and the bodies of gods.
Gaia’s massive form lay crumpled beneath him, the once-immense body of stone now cracked and crumbling. Ann’s original body battered and broken from Aegis’s relentless assault.
Medusa, transformed into her monstrous form, had already taken the brunt of Aegis’s power. Blood trickled from her lips as she stood, barely able to move. Her once-powerful body was crumbling beneath the force of Aegis’s strikes.
“Bastard…You think you’ve won?”
Aegis’s didn’t need to speak. He raised the trident high, the weapon humming with a deadly energy.
Medusa’s eyes flickered with defiance. “I won’t let you destroy me…”
But as the trident descended, her form seemed to lose its strength. The trident pierced her chest with terrifying ease, and the energy that had once given her form and power evaporated with a sickening hiss.
Medusa’s body crumbled into pieces, her once-proud figure breaking apart like stone shattering into dust.
Aegis did not flinch.
He turned away from the remains of Medusa, his face expressionless. Behind him, Gaia’s massive form still lay collapsed, struggling to rise, while Ann staggered back, his golden eyes wide with disbelief.
“This… this cannot be happening!” Ann shouted, his voice filled with fury. “I am a god! You cannot defeat me!”
Aegis’s eyes locked onto Ann, but before he could make another move, the air shifted again. A low rumble filled the ground, and Gaia, with a growl of frustration, pushed himself up from the rubble.
“You…” Gaia’s voice was strained, but his fury burned. “You think you’ve beaten me?”
Aegis’s grip on the trident tightened. He was ready to finish the battle, to end this once and for all.
But then, something happened.
Ann raised his hands, and the ground beneath them cracked open. The sky shifted, the winds howling as the energy surrounding them intensified. Golden light flared from Ann’s body, and for a moment, it seemed as if the very air around them was distorting with the sheer power emanating from him.
“Avatar Displacement,” Ann shouted again, his voice booming. “By the power of the Mountain God, I will escape this!”
Aegis’s eyes narrowed as Ann’s body expanded. Stone and divine light merged, his form growing to an even greater size, towering above Aegis, his golden eyes blazing with divine power.
Ann was using the power of his ancestor, the Mountain God, once again. But this time to escape.
Understanding this, Aegis didn’t hesitate.
With a fierce roar, Aegis leapt forward, the trident crackling with energy as he aimed for Ann’s heart. But before the strike could land, Gaia moved.
The giant god, his form still weakened but resolute, raised his hands to the sky. The ground trembled beneath them as a wave of earth and stone erupted in a colossal shield, blocking Aegis’s trident and sending him flying back.
Aegis landed hard, his trident skidding across the ground, but he immediately regained his footing.
The two gods heirs—Ann and Gaia—stood together now, side by side. Their combined power filled the air, and for the first time, Aegis could sense a true challenge. These gods were not mere avatars; they were a force to be reckoned with.
But Aegis did not flinch.
He stood tall, his eyes cold.
“You’ve made a mistake,” Aegis said quietly, his voice carrying the weight of a man who had seen enough to know the true nature of power.
Ann’s golden eyes glinted.
“You think we’re finished?” he snarled. “You’ve only scratched the surface of our power. You can’t defeat us—not here, not now.”
Gaia let out a low growl, his massive form trembling with the effort of holding his power together.
“We’re not done yet, Aegis. Not by a long shot. We’ll come for you again.”
Aegis smirked.
“That’s where you’re wrong,” he said, raising the trident once again. “This ends now.”
In a blinding flash, Aegis charged.
But Ann and Gaia were ready.
Together, they summoned their divine power.
The ground erupted beneath them as their bodies surged with godly energy in a wave of raw strength that sent shockwaves across the battlefield.
Rumble!
The earth split open, and the very air seemed to warp as their avatars took form, stone and divine power combining to form two towering giants, their golden eyes glaring down at Aegis.
Aegis did not hesitate.
He surged forward, his trident glowing with an ominous light.
The collision was cataclysmic.
Ann and Gaia’s combined divine power slammed into Aegis like a tidal wave, but he met it head-on. The trident clashed with the stone gods, sparks flying, the ground shaking beneath their feet.
Aegis’s body moved with terrifying precision, his strikes cutting through their defenses, his trident slashing with divine fury.
“Boooom!”
But Gaia’s colossal fist swung down, crashing toward Aegis with the force of a mountain.
Aegis dodged just in time, his movements fluid, his strength unmatched.
Ann followed, his massive form moving with godly speed as he unleashed a barrage of stone-shattering blows. Aegis danced through the strikes, his body agile and unyielding, the God-Killer Trident flashing through the air.
And then, just as quickly as the battle had begun, it stopped.
Ann and Gaia both recoiled, stepping back as Aegis’s trident sliced through the air with deadly precision.
They both realized it then.
They were outmatched.
But before they could fully retreat, something changed.
The ground cracked beneath their feet, and the air shifted once more.
A sudden wave of energy radiated from Gaia.
He turned to Ann, his eyes dark with malice. “We won’t survive here. Not against him.”
Ann looked back at Aegis, his golden eyes blazing with a mixture of fury and fear.
“Yes. We need to escape. Now.”
With a shared glance, the two gods invoked their final escape.
Ann’s body shimmered with divine light as he activated his Avatar Displacement, his form flickering for a moment before vanishing entirely. The immense power of the Mountain God’s heir vanished with him, leaving only the residual golden glow in the air.
Gaia, too, summoned his power, his massive form flickering and distorting as he invoked a godly technique of his own—Divine Burrow.
The earth around him cracked and shifted as he sank into the ground, his form merging with the land itself, disappearing without a trace.
Aegis stood still, watching the two gods vanish into the earth and sky.
Aegis clenched his fist, the God-Killer Trident still in hand. His breathing was steady, but his eyes burned with the knowledge that this battle was far from over. He had been close. So close to ending it all.
But they had escaped.
Aegis turned to Bella.
“They’ve escaped,” she said quietly.
He nodded. “Yes. But they won’t get far.”
Bella’s gaze softened, and she stepped forward. “You did enough, Arlan. You nearly destroyed them.”
He glanced at the wreckage around them, the shattered forms of gods lying broken on the ground. Medusa’s monstrous body was the only one still lying in pieces.
“Let’s go,” Aegis cut in, his voice calm. “We’ll find them again. And next time, there will be no escape.”
With a final glance at the battlefield, Aegis turned and walked away, the God-Killer Trident at his side.
And though the battle had ended for now, the war had only just begun.
