Chapter 96: Chapter 95: When an Island Became a Nation
The first phase of his ambition stretched forward with a series of notifications, but they did not arrive gently. They arrived like a succession of tidal waves, crashing against the interface of reality.
One after another, the system messages unfolded before Aegis’s vision, each one heavier than the last, each carrying an authority that rippled far beyond the floating translucent panel.
[Congratulations! Your island has been upgraded to Stage 6 ]
[ New traits and effects unlocked.]
The Sea God’s Palace trembled in response. It was not a violent shaking, but a deep, resonant vibration, as if something ancient beneath the ocean floor had stirred and turned over in its sleep. Before anyone could even react to the shift, the next notification followed immediately.
[ Congratulations! Your island has been upgraded to Stage 7. New traits and effects unlocked. ]
Mana density across the entirety of Aquabyss spiked sharply. The water surrounding the island began to glow with a faint, bioluminescent hue, and the currents accelerated as ley lines realigned themselves in response to the rapidly expanding domain.
Then came another.
[ Congratulations! Your island has been upgraded to Stage 8. ]
This time, the tremor reached the surface with undeniable force. On the docks, sailors stumbled as the horizon itself subtly shifted. Floating islands in the distance appeared to adjust their positions instinctively, as if making physical space for something larger and more dominant. Felix stared at the air in front of him, his mouth slightly open in disbelief.
”It is still not stopping,” he muttered, his voice barely audible over the humming of the air.
Aegis stood perfectly still, his eyes focused and his breathing slow. The Sky Crystals he had gathered from the Primordial Battlefield were dissolving in waves of blue and emerald light, consumed by the system at an incomprehensible rate.
Then came the silent milestones in rapid succession.
Stage 9. Stage 10. Stage 11.
The air thickened with a sudden, localized pressure. It was a weight that descended upon Aquabyss which was not oppressive, but commanding. The sea itself seemed to bow.
Every inhabitant felt the change in their marrow. Fish swam faster, coral grew visibly before the naked eye, and abyssal currents that once twisted unpredictably smoothed into clean, powerful streams that fed directly into the island’s core.
Aegis finally exhaled as the final panel unfolded.
[ Island: Aquabyss Domain (Divine) ]
[ Stage: 11 ]
[ Range: 2,000,000 sq. meters ]
[ Population: 5,200,000 ]
[ Passive Traits: Hydro-Regeneration 1,000%, Time Acceleration 50x, Prayer of the Sea ]
The silence that followed the notification was absolute. Then, Aquabyss began to change. It did not happen explosively, but organically. The ocean floor beneath the island expanded outward as stone and coral knitted together seamlessly.
What had once been a single massive floating landmass now extended into a sprawling archipelago of connected districts, underwater cities, and reinforced surface platforms.
From above, Aquabyss no longer looked like an island; it looked like a burgeoning nation.
Water domes expanded and merged, forming entire underwater boroughs where sunlight filtered through layered mana membranes. Forests of kelp thickened into living highways, and coral towers rose like spires to house millions.
On the surface, land districts spread outward. Hills formed where there had been flat plains, and rivers carved themselves into existence, flowing with fresh water enriched by sea mana.
The sky above Aquabyss cleared as clouds parted, as if they were unwilling to linger over something so dominant.
Inside the Sea God’s Palace, Eterna placed a hand against the observation window, her eyes wide with awe.
“Papa,” she whispered, “this is no longer an island.”
Flama let out a low whistle of appreciation. “It is a kingdom. No, it is bigger than that.”
Diva smiled softly, her eyes misty. “It is our home.”
Felix broke the stunned silence with a breathless, jagged laugh:
“Do you have any idea what you have done, my lord?” he asked, turning toward Aegis.
Aegis remained calm,
“Yes. I have upgraded Aquabyss,” he stated.
Felix shook his head, “No. You rewrote the fundamental balance of the Eternal Sky Realm.”
Outside, the effects continued to manifest. Hydro-Regeneration surged through every body of water within the domain. Wounded soldiers found deep cuts closing within seconds. Exhaustion faded unnaturally fast, and even chronic ailments among the civilian population weakened and then vanished entirely.
A fisherman on the eastern docks stared at his hands in disbelief.
”My joints, they do not hurt anymore,” he muttered.
His companion laughed nervously. “You are just imagining it, old man.”
The fisherman plunged his hand into the water, and when he pulled it out, an old, jagged scar across his palm was completely gone.
“By the Sea God,” he whispered, his voice trembling.
Nearby, a group of adventurers checked their status panels frantically.
“My stamina regeneration is insane,” one said. “I rested for five minutes and I am already fully recovered.”
Another adventurer frowned in confusion. “My mana pool is refilling faster than my spells can drain it.”
A third swallowed hard. “This place is broken. It shouldn’t be possible.”
The Time Acceleration manifested more subtly but with greater impact. Within the borders of Aquabyss, time now flowed fifty times faster relative to the outside world. Workshops became marvels of productivity almost instantly.
A blacksmith wiped sweat from his brow and stared at the sun’s position in disbelief.
”I have been forging for what felt like half a day, but the midday bell has not even rung once.”
His apprentice’s eyes sparkled with realization. “Master, do you know what this means? We can train, craft, and study fifty times faster than anyone else.”
The blacksmith laughed, a deep, joyous sound. “This island will bury the rest of the realm in progress.”
In the training fields, the Water Swordsmen moved like blurs, their techniques refining at a terrifying speed. New recruits advanced through the ranks in days instead of months.
One young soldier collapsed onto the grass, panting heavily.
“I just completed a week’s worth of drills in an hour,” he said, staring at his trembling hands.
His instructor nodded grimly. “Do not waste it. Power like this demands absolute discipline.”
The Prayer of the Sea awakened last. It began with whispers, and soft murmurs carried by the tides.
At first, the priests thought it was their imagination, then the sailors heard it, and finally the mages. The sea itself was responding to faith. When people prayed within the Aquabyss Domain, the ocean listened.
A mother knelt at the shoreline, her hands clasped tightly.
”Please,” she whispered, “protect my son at sea.”
Miles away, a patrol vessel shifted course instinctively, intercepting a hostile sea creature before it could ever approach the docks. In the Temple of Tides, the high priest staggered as a surge of divine feedback flooded through him.
“The Sea God hears us,” he whispered, tears streaming down his face. “Not distantly or abstractly, but directly.”
News of the transformation spread like wildfire. Refugees began arriving by the thousands, and surface Skylords sent envoys in haste. Some came with trade offers, others with veiled threats, but most came with pure awe. An adventurer guildmaster stood on the docks, staring out at the expanding horizon.
”I have traveled across the Eternal Sky Realm for twenty years,” he said quietly, “and I have never seen a domain like this one.”
His deputy swallowed nervously. “Will they even need us anymore?”
The guildmaster smiled grimly. “That is the terrifying part. They do, and they will make us stronger just by standing here.”
Within days, Aquabyss became the beating heart of the realm. Markets overflowed with goods refined at impossible speeds, and libraries expanded overnight. Academies formed, drawing scholars from every floating continent. Commoners spoke openly, their voices filled with wonder.
”My daughter learned more skills in a week here than she did in a year back home,” one said.
”We do not worry about storms anymore. The sea calms itself for us,” another added.
”Do you feel it? It is like the water is watching over us.”
The adventurers whispered as well. “This place is dangerous.”
”Dangerous how?”
”It makes you want to stay forever.”
“Hahaha…”
In the command chamber, Felix paced restlessly. “We are approaching the Stage 12 requirements faster than I anticipated,” he said. “Our indirect followers alone already number in the hundreds of thousands.”
Aegis listened quietly while Eterna spoke thoughtfully. “But Sky Crystals will be harder to obtain. Fifty thousand is no small amount, even for us.”
Flama smirked at the challenge. “We could always go poke another Global Event.”
Aegis shot her a warning look, and she laughed. “I am kidding. Mostly.”
Diva tilted her head, looking at her father. “Papa, are you worried?”
Aegis considered the question, looking out over the vast Aquabyss Domain, which was glowing beneath the sun and sea, alive with voices, hope, and momentum.
“Yes,” he said honestly. “Growth of this magnitude attracts dangerous attention.”
Felix folded his arms. “It is far too late for subtlety now.”
Aegis nodded. “Which means we prepare for whatever comes next.”
Outside, a pair of travelers stood at the edge of the docks, staring at the sprawling city. One whispered, “Is this really the Sea God’s domain?”
The other nodded slowly. “Yes. And its his Kingdom.”
High above, the Eternal Sky Realm shifted imperceptibly. Other Skylords took notice because Aquabyss was no longer just rising; it was accelerating, and the tide had no intention of stopping.
