Chapter 117: The Continental War (5)
Red watched the primary monitor as the Glacial Sovereign initiated the assault from his own isolated instance of the Void. A massive spike in server data registered on the tactical overlay. The Sovereign burned 200,000 DP in a single keystroke to activate a Rank 12 Domain Spell.
Down on the physical map, a blinding white aura of absolute zero temperatures descended over the western banks.
The bioluminescent teal water of the Continental Moat churned violently against the magical frost. Blinding steam erupted into the sky as the hyper-cellular regeneration properties of the Aegis Spores fought the freezing process. The Sovereign pushed more resources into his console, forcing a fractured, unstable glacier to bridge the mile-wide gap.
The three allied deities flanking the Sovereign immediately layered their own spells over the vanguard. A Rank 11 Forgecaster projected a shimmering dome of hardened light over the ice bridge to deflect incoming projectiles.
A Rank 12 Zephyr Lord summoned a localized slipstream, granting the massive Frost Giants and armored cavalry a sheer speed multiplier to rush the crossing.
A Rank 11 Blood-Mage cast a massive vitality buff on the infantry, turning their veins a glowing crimson. They operated with the synchronized efficiency of a high-tier raid group, pooling their divine resources to crack the ultimate defensive firewall.
“A textbook vanguard composition,” Red said, his fingers dancing across the obsidian keys. “You are spending millions of DP per minute just to maintain the floor you walk on.”
He bypassed the standard magical defense protocols and opened the master control tab for the Onyx Hall artillery batteries. He dragged a targeting grid over the entire length of the newly formed ice bridge and locked the coordinates.
“Fire.”
Along the eastern ridge of the moat, the bedrock mechanically split open. The Ash-Kin engineers cranked the release valves on massive hydraulic rails, pushing rows of multi-barreled bio-gas mortars into the open sky. Pressurized fuel lines ignited inside the chambers.
The artillery batteries fired with concussive force, sending thousands of Star-Iron shells screaming across the gap.
Red did not bother watching the physical explosions on the ground. He opened the server’s financial ledger and pinned the enemy gods’ accounts to his secondary monitor.
The first volley of shells smashed into the hard-light dome covering the bridge. The Star-Iron payloads shattered, releasing payloads of Crawler’s Kiss acid and violet alchemical fire directly onto the magical barrier.
The physical kinetic force combined with the corrosive chemical burn forced the game engine to calculate massive damage values.
Up in the Void, the Rank 11 Forgecaster slammed his fists onto his console. His DP reserves plummeted by four hundred thousand points in a single second just to keep the barrier from shattering under the industrial bombardment.
“Keep feeding the guns,” Red ordered through Elian to the Ash-Kin node, resting his boots on the edge of his terminal. “Do not give them a single frame to regenerate mana. Bleed their accounts dry.”
Down in the moat, the continuous rain of artillery fire turned the crossing into a chaotic nightmare. The explosive impacts cracked the glacier beneath the Frost Giants. The Glacial Sovereign frantically typed commands to reinforce the freezing spell, his own Faith counter draining rapidly as boiling Aegis water surged through the fractures and melted the hooves of his vanguard cavalry.
Red watched the leveling light flash across his own artillery crews as the collateral damage annihilated the enemy front lines. He turned the grand continental war into an orbital math problem, completely dismantling their divine magic with superior logistics.
“Still… I can’t keep this up. They are rank 11 and 12 gods, and they have too many DP resources to spend. Not to mention, they will have three special traits and… their own pets. And there are four of them. I can ask for other gods’ help, but frankly, I am better off myself.”
Up in the Void, the Rank 12 Zephyr Lord executed a synchronized command with the Rank 11 Forgecaster, merging their domain spells. A spiraling tunnel of hyper-compressed wind encased in a shell of hardened light formed over the entire length of the ice bridge.
Red watched his tactical feed update with the new environmental variables. The incoming Star-Iron shells deflected off the aerodynamic barrier, spiraling harmlessly into the bioluminescent water below.
The massive DP drain on the enemy accounts instantly stabilized as the kinetic energy was redirected rather than absorbed.
Red tapped a single command key on his console, cutting the fuel lines to the bio-gas mortars to conserve his bio-gas reserves.
“Let them cross,” Red transmitted through the Bastion’s communication node. “The artillery served its purpose. Process them in the mud.”
The enemy vanguard shattered the eastern embankments, surging up from the moat with their weapons drawn. Frost Giants and blood-enraged cavalry charged the defensive line.
The Treants locked their ironwood roots into the soil, firing their bronze pistons to swing massive wooden limbs that crushed the skeletal cavalry into splinters.
Old-Shell anchored the defensive line beside them, standing as an impenetrable dome of obsidian armor plates. The Shell-Kin Elder vented scalding steam from his Pressurized Boiler Plating directly into the faces of the charging giants, melting their icy flesh on contact through pure thermal shock.
Through the superheated vapor, the Grey-Fin pikemen lunged forward in a disciplined phalanx. Their obsidian-dark scales deflected retaliatory sword strikes from the surviving infantry. They drove their serrated Star-Iron spears, dripping with toxic sap, deep into the enemies’ vulnerable joints.
The Mud-Skippers unburrowed from the camouflaged trenches, hurling clay pots of Crawler’s Kiss acid into the densely packed enemy ranks. The enchanted silver armor of the western soldiers flash-rusted into orange dust upon impact.
The Kobolds hoisted their Pneumatic Bolt-Throwers from the elevated ridges, firing armor-piercing projectiles through the compromised breastplates and pinning the soldiers to the bedrock.
“With this, we should easily be able to annihilate the first wave. The problem is, they have an army of hundreds of thousands, while I don’t. I can use the armies of my vassal gods, but they don’t know my way, and instead become a hindrance to my army.”
Red opened Elian’s profile.
“I guess I should use humans now.”
