Chapter 101: Forest Thorns vs. Blood Thorns (4)
The elf, with a focused gaze and his body tense, looked around. The entire courtyard was filled with red silk that was slowly dissolving the trees, bushes, and grass, while the incendiary spirits fluttered around Lucian and Shin like small, restless lights.
“(There are about fifteen spiders in total… but there are still too many eggs in that mass of blood… The real danger now is the largest spider, I don’t know if it has more spells, it’s best to eliminate the eggs first)”
The elf thought as he analyzed the surroundings, watching how at the top of the blood bubble the assassin began gathering reddish magic in his palms, while the sky darkened and the sun disappeared over the horizon, making the scene more tense.
“Are those spiritual fireflies? Damn, I had only heard about them in the books from Lord Xavier’s library… I wonder if they’re well made or if they’ll fall apart at the first impact he he he”
The assassin said curiously as he scratched his chin, fascinated by the elven magic he had admired so much, but his spiders, on the other hand, the medium ones near Lucian and the mother spider the size of a tiger, seemed afraid of the spirits, judging by their threatening screeches.
After a moment of consideration, the elf let out a whistle, commanding the incendiary spirits, who for an instant froze in the air and began to shine intensely, as if all their spiritual energy had been compressed into a single point.

In an instant, five spirits shot forward at high speed, leaving a trail of spiritual magic behind them, traveling directly toward the blood bubble like small green comets seeking to pierce the garden’s red sky.
The spiders, trying to stop the spirits, began firing their reddish silk in desperation, filling the air with sticky, blood-like threads that sought to trap them before they could get too close to the nest of eggs.
The silk, upon contact with the spirits, burned in green fire, and that simple clash was enough to show that the elf’s spiritual magic was poisonous even to those creations made of blood and sorcery.
Sifhon, the assassin, upon seeing the spiritual projectiles, tried to stop the attack by aiming his palm, sending eggs flying toward the spirits, using them as improvised projectiles with a speed as disgusting as it was effective.
But the act was useless; the eggs burst without managing to stop the spirits, dissolving in the air like viscous balloons while the small green flames continued advancing with barely any loss of speed.
In an attempt to avoid the damage, Sifhon struck the blood bubble, and it split into four separate floating masses; each one flew off, fleeing from the spirits as if that giant nest had turned into multiple prey.
The group of spiritual fireflies split apart to follow each floating sphere, trying to reach the eggs, spreading their pursuit across the entire sky of the garden with erratic yet precise movements, guided by Lucian’s will.
“(Impressive… Those things are completely condensed spiritual energy… But I doubt they can last long, they must have a very short time limit)” Sifhon thought while standing atop one of the blood bubbles drifting through the garden.
However, after a few seconds of fleeing, the spirits disappeared into the air, fading like lights suddenly stripped of life, just when they seemed about to catch up to him again.
“(Perfect, I knew it, those damn bugs only last 10 seconds!) Hey, old man, your shiny trash only lives a few seconds, right?” the assassin shouted through his plague doctor mask.
“So the brat knows how to count, huh? It doesn’t matter how long they last, what matters is how many I can summon, idiot!” Lucian replied, then brought his palms together and released a large amount of spiritual energy that made the small circle beneath his feet tremble.
From the magic circle at his feet, more incendiary spirits began to emerge, flying out in a hurry, trying to strike the blood bubbles before they could keep splitting or filling the sky with more eggs.
The spiders, for a moment, retreated, but after a whistle from the assassin, the smaller ones began spitting balls of reddish silk, trying to dissolve the elf, changing targets and aiming to break his concentration once and for all.
However, the elf’s guardian, Shin, the living tree, began catching every silk shot with his arms, placing his oak body between Lucian and the red rain falling from different angles.
But that silk began dissolving the wood he was made of, so he let his arms grow and then cut them off; it was a cycle of destruction and defense, painful to watch but effective in buying time.
While the living oak defended Lucian, he continued summoning more spirits; some collided with the medium-sized spiders, which, with their bone-white shells, managed to withstand some impacts, but eventually ended up burning amid horrible screeches.
The assassin, seeing the danger of the elf’s spell, moved his fingers, controlling the separated blood bubbles, which continued splitting until there were hundreds upon hundreds of small clusters of blood floating across the entire sky of the garden.
Some bubbles contained an egg inside, others were empty, but all were controlled with precise accuracy by the assassin, turning the sky into a living maze of traps, decoys, and potential threats.
The assassin, now on the ground, began controlling all the bubbles with threads of magical energy; the mental strain of controlling them all was so intense that beneath his mask, a drop of blood ran from his nose as he began laughing, excited by the battle.
In the sky, a deadly dance of blood and fireflies could be seen trying to avoid one another; however, without wasting time, some eggs hatched and began falling violently toward Lucian like sick fruits torn from the sky.
However, thanks to Shin, the danger was repelled with his thorn-covered fists, crushing, deflecting, and bursting every creature that tried to fall too close to the elf while the courtyard continued to fill with remains.
Seeing the danger, some spirits tried to reach the assassin, but the mother spider, the largest of all, covered his body, and with its shell it could withstand the impact of any spirit, becoming a living wall between Sifhon and any direct attack.
“(We won’t be able to hold this much longer, each spirit consumes too much energy… Besides, that stupid spider is too durable… I can’t defend and attack at the same time, not like this)” the elf thought, already feeling the cost of his own magic.
“Hey, Luci, what the hell are you trying to do with only seven spirits? Get rid of all those damn eggs already!” Shin shouted, trying to repel the attacks that were gradually becoming more precise, as if the enemy was refining its aim.
“I know, I know… But I haven’t trained at all since last time… Controlling seven at the same time is still my limit… Well, unless I use an expansion, but if I do, I’ll be completely drained,” the elf said, uneasy and worried about his spiritual energy reserves.
“You’re going to have to do it whether you like it or not, I don’t think we can handle that many eggs, besides, if you do it right, this will end instantly,” the living trunk replied.
“I suppose… But if I do it, I’ll be completely exposed… You know what to do when that happens… I’m entrusting my life to you, old friend,” Lucian replied, cutting both of his palms with one of his friend’s thorns without hesitation.
“If you die, I die anyway, so don’t worry, Luci, let it all out,” the living oak replied sarcastically, though he didn’t argue at all.
Lucian, with his palms bleeding, made a precise turn and spread his blood drop by drop around his position, leaving separate stains all over the ground that together formed a massive circle surrounding the elf and his guardian.
“(I guess in the end we will attract attention… I hope it doesn’t hurt too much)” the elf thought before placing his bleeding hands on the ground where the small magic circle that gave birth to the spirits lay, merging both into a single flow.
“Rain that gives life… Fire of the soul…” the elf recited in elven language almost like a lullaby, with a low and steady voice that completely contrasted with the bloody chaos of the courtyard.
Suddenly, an enormous amount of magical energy burst from his body, and the small magic circle expanded until it connected with the drops of fresh blood he had formed earlier, spreading like a luminous network.
“FALL AND BURN EVERYTHING!” Lucian shouted, a magical glow in his eyes as if they were burning from all the magical flow running through his body.

Suddenly, from the newly expanded magic circle, dozens upon dozens of spiritual fireflies were born, swirling upward into the sky, filling the courtyard with a vivid green light that pushed back the darkness for a moment.
High above, hundreds of glowing spirits hovered, and from a distance, the entire city saw them for a few moments as a cluster of stardust in the night, far too beautiful for such a disgusting battle.
“Let’s see how you defend against this, you little piece of shit!” Lucian shouted as a drop of blood ran down from his nose and another from his eye; that spell was his final effort.
