Chapter 54: Saving My Kidnappers (2)
After saving the life of one of the twins, Ebony wiped the sweat from her forehead before moving to check on the other.
The hunters who had saved her earlier had already spent huge amounts of their spiritual power, so they wouldn’t be able to save everyone, but now, inside them, a small spark of hope began to grow.
“Alright kid, let’s see how you’re doing,” Ebony said as she approached her new patient.
The young hunter was conscious and breathing with difficulty, not because of any visible wounds, but because of the dark magic that had poisoned his body.
The blonde girl took the boy’s hand to calm him down, however her {{Healer}} ability began to activate.
Because of her trait, she could feel the life around her, but when she touched a patient’s body she could sense their wounds and ailments more clearly.
Inside the young hunter’s body, a great darkness loomed, it felt like a mist threatening to cover the light of his life until it snuffed it out.
“(Mmmm… This is interesting, I didn’t know I could do this… I can clearly feel the boy’s body, but what I’m sensing aren’t physical wounds… Mmmmm)”
Meanwhile, the sun was setting on the horizon, Lucian, for his part, smiled as he watched the girl so focused on helping others.
“(It’s the first time I’ve seen her this serious… I guess healing people really is her calling, for now I’d better not complain about my condition so I don’t worry her
)”
Lucian lay down on the ground, trying to control his breathing so he wouldn’t draw attention.
“Hey, pointy ear—” Ebony was about to call Lucian to help her, but when she saw him lying on the ground, she understood he wasn’t in good shape either.
Looking more closely, the entire place was a disaster, it looked like the aftermath of a war where she was the only one unharmed.
After a moment of understanding her situation, the blonde hurried to the bonfire where she had been burning.
From it she grabbed a log that burned with green spiritual fire, those flames didn’t harm flesh but overloaded the spirit, something she had experienced firsthand.
Returning to the poisoned hunter, she found the other hunters about to begin their healing spell.
“Hey idiots, what the hell are you doing?!” Ebony shouted angrily as she shoved them away from the boy.
“This one will be fine with me, I promise, don’t waste your energy here, better treat the girl over there, her life won’t last much longer and…”
With sorrow in her words, Ebony swallowed.
“I don’t think I can save her… Not me, her life is too weak and I… I can’t use healing magic like you guys… So stop wasting energy on others and help that woman!”
The blonde ordered them as she knelt on the ground in front of her patient.
The hunters looked at each other, they seemed hesitant to leave the life of such a young member to a stranger, but after witnessing her talent they decided to obey and went to Kaly, their leader, who was agonizing from her wounds.
“Idiots… What the hell do you think you’re doing here…” Kaly said when she saw them approaching. “I told you to help… the others…”
At that moment the white-haired girl stopped speaking when she saw how the girl they had kidnapped was kneeling while starting to break the burning log into small pieces.
Ebony then took a bone dagger the young hunter had on his belt, and with it she began making small cuts on the boy’s bare chest.
“Listen, this is going to hurt like hell… But I promise it’ll work out… I think,” the blonde said as she finished the fifth cut.
Blood slowly flowed from each incision, but before the wounds could close from coagulation, the girl took the small burning pieces of wood and pushed them inside the cuts.
“Easy, easy, it’ll pass I promise, hang in there please!”
The blonde shouted as she forced the burning pieces of wood into the wounds while the young hunter writhed in pain, it wasn’t pleasant having things shoved into an open wound.
Suddenly, the green fire emanating from those small pieces began to turn violet.
“YES! That’s it!… I hope… Hey kid, do you feel better?”
Ebony asked, taking the boy’s hand to sense his body.
The boy nodded, still breathing with difficulty, but with each passing minute his breathing began to relax.
From the ground nearby, Lucian couldn’t hold back his curiosity.
“Hey Ebony… What are you doing with those pieces of wood?”
“Well… When the dark elf attacked me while I was roasting over the bonfire like a chicken, something strange happened, the flames that were green turned violet.”
As Ebony spoke, she saw the burning pieces of wood stop burning, so she removed them from the wounds and inserted new flaming pieces into the boy’s chest, once again producing violet flames.
“In the gam— In the past I learned that magic tends to seep into certain special objects like these logs, kind of like sponges, but while they’re burning they end up consuming the closest magic.”
Ebony watched carefully as the fire that had been violet slowly returned to green.
“With that in mind, we can burn the magic inside a body, in this case that idiot’s poisonous magic, that way we can purify a body of corrupted magic.”
Ebony said proudly as she saw the boy breathing normally.
“That’s very interesting… But it looks like it hurts like hell… Though I guess it’s better than dying…”
Lucian said worriedly as he watched Ebony approach him with a smile, holding what remained of the log wrapped in green flames.
“I suppose, keep that in mind and tell me later, hehe.”
After that Ebony removed Lucian’s clothes from the waist up, leaving his abdomen exposed.
The green-haired elf tried to resist, but in the end the blonde carefully cut into his abdomen and inserted burning pieces of wood inside to begin purifying his body of the corrupted magic within him.
Meanwhile, a few meters away, Kaly watched closely as Ebony saved her people’s lives, it drew a faint smile from her.
“(At least no one else will die… That’s a relief…)”
The woman then looked at the sky, resigning herself to her own survival, because despite her companions’ healing magic her body wasn’t improving.
“(What a beautiful sky, I always liked that orange color in the sky… It’s like seeing autumn painted above… I’m glad this is the last thing you see in this life)”
The white-haired woman thought with a sincere smile as she closed her eyes, embracing her end.
However, in the darkness a voice began calling her, it was an annoying and cynical voice, until suddenly an electric shock pulled her out of it.
“Where do you think you’re going with that stupid smile? On my watch nobody dies, idiot!”
Ebony shouted as she was over the white-haired woman’s body, holding her heavy shield and pressing it carefully against her nearly bare chest.
That’s right, the most useless Healer in that world had just invented defibrillation.
