Alex stood there perfectly calm, even though the mage was talking about power Alex wasn’t disturbed in the slightest.

The mage had a smile on his face as he revealed what was in his hands, four small bottles were in his hands and all of them contained different colored liquids, the mage wasted no time in drinking all of them immediately.

Alex wanted to attack the mage but he had no idea what potion the mage had drank so he was extra careful, he couldn’t afford to make a single mistake cause his level was at stake and two beautiful girls are waiting for him.

‘Now that I think about it, I haven’t seen Gabriel, Max, or Rebecca, I wonder where they went’ Alex looked up as he wondered.

“It seems you are not afraid” the mage spoke.

“Not really, but I have to ask where did you get those potions, did Matthew sell them for you?” Alex asked.

“Yes, I bought them before coming here, he had all kinds of potions making me wonder if it’s okay to have them in a starter city like melmond”

“I completed a quest for him that’s why, I think we overdid it, we were supposed to look for a leave, but ended up bringing over 40 leaves, so which potions did you get?” Alex asked with a smile.

Both of them were wasting their time talking and the crowd was waiting anxiously for what would happen next.

Alex was shocked at the speed of the mage and before he could react the mage stopped and Alex knew what was coming next.

Instead of the usually small condensed ball of flame that every mage shot, this one was large, large enough to envelop two adult men and burn them to ash.

Alex was already running to the left side of the arena but the flame was shot towards him, he couldn’t stop or run faster than the flame so he watched as the flame came closer till he was enveloped.

The only thing he did was to shield his face from the flame.

“Arrgh…” Alex screamed as the flame covered his entire body.

“What just happened, few seconds into the fight and the champion of the arena has been pulverized by the flames of his opponent”

The mage stood there with a smile on his face as the man spoke, he wasn’t sure he could defeat Alex but he did and with his first attack no less, he wasn’t sure if Alex was dead as smoke blocked his vision.

The same notification came up again as soon as the fireball hit, Alex was shocked as the flame which was supposed to burn him ended up being absorbed into his body.

“Energy absorption…I guess spells are also energy, but this is something else” Alex said with a smile.

Smoke from the flame covered his entire body, Alex had to find a way to get close to the mage so he could use his weapon.

“When fighting the evolved wolf, I absorbed its shockwave but when I attacked I couldn’t use it, but against the skeleton I could…wait that’s right, I need to use my fists or what” Alex mumbled looking down.

The crowd cheered as the smoke cleared away and Alex was still standing unaware that the smoke had cleared away as he was in deep thought.

Alex opened his inventory and kept both of his daggers inside and raised his fists up surprising everyone watching, the reason why he couldn’t use the shockwave again the wolf was that he used his daggers to attack.

His body absorbed the attack so he had to attack with his fist to use the amplified energy.

“You kept your weapon, do you think I’m that weak?” the mage shouted.

“No… I’m trying to test something, if it doesn’t work I’m going to switch back to my daggers” Alex said as he took a few steps forward.

The mage in front of him was currently faster than him so to get close he would have to be tricky.

“Are you guys seeing this, the champion came out of the flame unscathed and he currently fighting barehanded, is this a battle or a joke”

“Are you happy hearing him speak, I’m going to end your life here, and I hope we don’t come across each other in the future cause I’m going to hunt you down till you are dead” the mage spat.

A loud snort made both of them turn sideways, they and completely forgotten that their battle was supposed to take only three minutes then beasts would be released into the arena.

[Fanged Boar]

A large boar with two sharp teeth sticking outside of its mouth stood there staring at both of them, immediately the boar started brushing its foot against the ground getting ready to charge.

The boar still didn’t have a target as it was still staring at both of them, Alex looked towards the mage but the mage’s reaction was much faster as he had already turned around and ran away from the boar.

[Dark binds]

Alex saw the mage running away and also turned around the run but his leg was stuck, he quickly looked down and saw dark ropes covering his legs.

The mage had cast a spell to trap Alex so he wouldn’t be able to move.

‘Gabriel used this spell once, a trap’ Alex mumbled as he reached down to grab the rope and immediately he knew he was playing into the mage’s hand.

The spell could be used to trap an opponent’s entire body but the mage only used it to trap Alex’s legs and when Alex reached down more dark ropes sprouted from the ground and held him in place.

The boar snorted as it charged toward Alex who couldn’t move as he was tied to the ground.

‘Shit this is too strong, the mage used a magic boosting potion, that would also explain why his fireball was so large…wait but his fireball was large and it was absorbed by my entire body, that means I should be able to release it from my entire body’ Alex muttered.

“That’s right, good thing you figure it out or you would be dead, now visualize releasing the energy from your entire body and be fast cause the boar is already behind you” a voice spoke in Alex’s ear.

“You…I don’t have time, I just have to visualize releasing the energy” Alex closed his eyes as he focused, “Shit nothing is happening”

“Match point” the mage smirked as the boar crashed into Alex.
