Chapter 47: Chapter-47
“No need,” Heena said, testing the restraints. They held firm. “This lesson is different.”
She stepped back, surveying her work, then reached for the ceremonial sash holding Raphael’s outer robes closed.
The system’s jaw dropped. “What are you—”
“Of all five consorts,” Heena said quietly, fingers working the knot loose, “Raphael has the weakest body. He’s spent his life in temples and prayer halls, not battlefields.” The sash came free and she pulled it away. “But his ’mind’…”
She began unfastening the layers of pristine white fabric, peeling them back slowly. “His mind is the strongest. Filled with rules, vows, divine laws, moral absolutes.”
The outer robe fell open, revealing the simpler tunic beneath. “He sees the world in black and white. Holy and unholy. Pure and sinful.”
System 427 watched, frozen, as she continued methodically removing each layer. “So… you’re going to…”
“Break him first,” Heena finished. “Not with poison. Not with pain. But by shattering every single belief he’s built his identity on.”
Her fingers moved to the tunic’s fastenings. “He’s a High Priest who just tried to murder the Empress—the Mother of the Nation, the woman he’s supposed to serve as the gods’ representative. The cognitive dissonance alone should be eating him alive.”
The tunic parted. Raphael’s chest rose and fell with slow, unconscious breaths. His skin was pale, unmarked—a body that had never known violence or indulgence.
“So I’m going to show him,” Heena murmured, “that all his vows, all his purity, all his holy righteousness… means nothing. That he’s just a man. Fallible. Weak. ’Human’.”
She pulled the tunic off completely, leaving him in only thin undergarments. In the lamplight, bound to her bed, he looked almost vulnerable. Innocent.
That wouldn’t last.
System 427 swallowed hard. “And when he wakes up?”
Heena’s smile was cold mercy. “When he wakes up, he’ll understand exactly what happens when you break your sacred vows to try and kill me. And then…”
She traced one finger along the edge of the handcuff, not quite touching Raphael’s skin.
“…then he’ll go back and tell the others what they’re ’really’ dealing with.”
Raphael surfaced from the darkness slowly, like dragging himself up through thick mud.
His head throbbed. Every heartbeat pounded behind his eyes. He groaned and tried to lift a hand to his face—only to feel cold metal bite into his wrist.
He blinked fully awake.
Both arms were stretched above his head, cuffed tightly to the carved bedposts. No matter how hard he pulled, the chains didn’t so much as rattle. His legs were free, but his upper body was pinned, back pressed into soft mattresses that felt far too luxurious for a prisoner. [1]
He looked down.
White robes: gone. Holy vestments: gone. He was stripped down to his thin undergarments, skin prickling in the warm air. The room was heated; he wasn’t cold—but he ’felt’ naked. Exposed.
He jerked his head to the side.
Only one other person was in the room.
Heenasat at a nearby table, one leg crossed over the other, leisurely sipping tea and reading a book as if he were a mildly interesting decoration instead of a bound High Priest on her bed. She hadn’t even turned to acknowledge he was awake.
“Your Highness—Your Majesty,” Raphael rasped, throat dry. “Don’t you think this is… too much?”
No response. She turned a page.
His jaw clenched. “Last time, I was drunk. You took advantage—that is the only reason you could do as you pleased.” His voice grew sharper, clinging to anger to smother his rising unease. “But this time, if you dare lay a single hand on me, do you think the priests will ’let you go’?”
Still nothing. Another quiet sip of tea.
Raphael’s temper snapped. “Don’t forget who I am. I am one of the ’royal’ high priests. My status is equal to the imperial bloodline. Do you think I can’t bring you down if you humiliate me like this?”
That finally earned him her eyes.
Heenaclosed the book with a soft ’thud’ and turned her head, regarding him with a slow, sweet smile that didn’t reach her gaze.
“Of course you can, honey,” she said gently. “You’re very important. Very holy.”
He opened his mouth, but she lifted a hand and continued, voice light as air.
“But tell me,” she mused, tilting her head, “’what’, exactly, are you going to say to them?”
Raphael froze.
Heenarose from her chair and walked toward the bed, unhurried, the picture of a patient teacher approaching a slow student. She stopped at the foot of the mattress, looking down at him with that same soft smile.
“Let’s imagine it together, shall we?” she said. “You return to the temple. You gather the senior priests. The nobles. Perhaps even the council. And you say…” She cleared her throat theatrically.
“’Honored elders, the Empress ’raped’ me.’”
Color drained from his face.
Hina’s eyes gleamed. “You tell them: ’I snuck back to the palace after conspiring with my fellow consorts. I went to check if our assassination attempt succeeded. I found Her Majesty ’alive’. She somehow knew I was involved, knocked me out, stripped me, cuffed me to her bed and ’violated’ me.’”
She leaned forward slightly, hands resting on the mattress near his hips, trapping him in her shadow.
“And what will they say, dear High Priest?” Her voice dropped, silk over steel. “Will they weep for your lost purity? Or will they look at you and think: ’Why were you alone in the Empress’s private chambers at night? Why did you go to her bath wing the very day elite assassins attacked her?’”
Raphael’s breath came faster, chest rising and falling against his restraints.
Hina’s smile widened, cruel and amused. “Do you think they’ll cry, ’Poor priest, defiled by the wicked Empress’? Or will they mutter, ’Ah, so the holy man was having an illicit affair all along’? Maybe they’ll quietly suggest we formalize your position. After all, a married couple can do all sorts of… nonsense… behind closed doors, hm?”
Disgust and horror warred on his face. “I would never—”
“You already did,” Heenacut in lightly. “You broke your vows. You conspired to murder your Empress—the woman you’re supposed to serve as the gods’ chosen representative. You stepped into my palace to confirm my death.”
She straightened, looking down her nose at him.
“You are not here because I’m a lustful tyrant, Raphael,” she said coldly. “You’re here because you’re a traitor who tried to kill me and still thinks his status makes him untouchable.”
She glanced at his bound wrists, then back to his eyes.
“So go ahead,” she said sweetly. “Run to your priests. Tell them I stripped you and tied you to my bed. Tell them you came to check on the Empress’s corpse and found her very much alive.”
Her smile turned razor-sharp.
“Let’s see which story the world believes.”
Raphael’s face went from red to corpse‑white.
His lips moved soundlessly for a moment, mind scrambling through every version of that story he could try to spin—to the Council, to the temples, to Serafina, to himself—and finding nothing that wouldn’t damn him further.
Hina watched the panic bloom and settle in his eyes, then tilted her head. “Well?” she prompted lightly. “You were saying something about ’handling’ me?”
He swallowed. Hard.
