Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Logan’s Fate
The news of the massacre arrived in the form of a blood-stained scrap of a cloak and the absolute, suffocating silence of the dead.
Inside the private study male dormitory, Logan Kingsbane sat paralyzed. His breath came in shallow, jagged hitches that rattled his expensive silk doublet.
On the mahogany desk before him, the gold-trimmed quill he had been using to draft his “triumph” lay snapped in half.
Logan had always viewed himself as the true sun of the family, the legitimate golden heir who would eventually scrub the stain of Adonis from the family tree. He had sent ten of the Duchess’s finest Shadow Guards, men who were trained to kill high-tier Swordmasters in their sleep.
”They… they are all dead?” Terrified, Logan whispered to the shadows of the room, “Every single one? In broad daylight?”
The messenger, a man whose very soul seemed to have been withered by what he had witnessed in the noble district, could only nod.
“It wasn’t a fight, My Lord. it was a massacre. He didn’t use a sword. He used his hands. He tore them apart as if they were made of wet parchment.”
“What! How could this be? Isn’t he just newcomer just like me? How can he kill level 40 Swordmasters?”
Logan felt a cold, oily sweat break out across his brow. His stomach churned with a sudden, violent nausea. He had always hated Adonis, envied the raw, natural talent that the “bastard” possessed, but he had never truly feared him. Fear was for the weak. Fear was for commoners.
But as he looked at the trembling messenger, Logan understood what fear means.
He was feeling chill from head to toe.
”Get out. Get out and double the perimeter guards! Call the Captain of the Black Rose! Tell my mother that—”
Just then, the heavy oak doors of the study disintegrated.
Boom!
The explosion of splinters and iron hinges silenced Logan’s command. Through the settling dust and the shards of wood, a figure stepped into the room.
Adonis didn’t look like the boy Logan had bullied in the training halls. He looked like a nightmare that had put on a human skin. His white tunic was ruined, soaked through with dark, drying arterial spray, and his golden eyes were fixed on Logan with a level of predatory hatred that made the air in the room turn frigid.
”Logan,” Adonis said. The name was a death sentence.
Bang!
Logan scrambled backward, his chair flipping over with a loud crash. He hit the wall, his hands fumbling for the decorative sword hanging above the fireplace.
“You! How did you get past the gates? Guards! To me!”
Adonis kept walking, his steps slow and deliberate. Every footfall sounded like a hammer hitting a coffin nail.
“Your guards are decorating the rose bushes, dear brother. They were as disappointing as the ones you sent to the market.”
”You can’t do this!” Logan shrieked, finally unsheathing his Soul blade.
The steel trembled in his hand. “I am the heir! I am a Kingsbane! If you touch me, the Kingdom will have your head on a spike before sunset! The King will—”
Adonis moved. “Swoosh!”
It was too fast for Logan’s eyes to track. One moment Adonis was ten feet away; the next, he was standing directly in front of him, the heat radiating from his study [Primordial Chaos Dragon Physique] scorching Logan’s skin.
“Ahhh!”
Adonis reached out and gripped the blade of the Sword with his bare hand.
The enchanted steel could only groan, then shattered into a dozen pieces under the sheer pressure of his grip.
Logan clutched his chest as his Sword Soul got broken.
He was about to die, and it terrified him. He didn’t want to die.
”Death is too easy for you, my brother.” Adonis said coldly.
His hand shot out, his fingers locking around Logan’s right wrist. The grip was absolute.
Logan felt his bones begin to grind against each other
”Stop! Please! Save me! I’ll give you anything!” Logan begged, his regal facade collapsing into a mess of snot and tears.
“I’ll give up the inheritance! I’ll leave the kingdom! Adonis, we’re brothers!”
”Brothers?” Adonis’s expression twisted into pure unadulterated cruelty. “You watched while she killed my mother. You laughed while I was crying outside her coffin. You don’t deserve to be called as this “Adonis” brother. You deserve a cruel death.”
With a sudden, violent twist, Adonis rotated Logan’s arm.
Crackle!
The wet, sickening sound of muscle tearing and the humerus snapping filled the room.
“AHHHHHH!”
Logan let out a high-pitched, soul-piercing scream, but Adonis didn’t stop. He planted a foot on Logan’s chest and pulled. The shoulder joint gave way with a horrific squelch, and Logan’s right arm was ripped completely from his torso.
Splash!
Blood sprayed across the fine carpet, but Adonis’s eyes remained dry and cold. He tossed the severed limb into the fireplace as if it were a piece of trash.
”That’s for every time you hit me when I couldn’t fight back,” Adonis said.
Logan fell to his knees, clutching the stump of his shoulder, his mind fracturing from the agony. He tried to crawl away, leaving a thick trail of red blood on the expensive carpet. Adonis stepped on his left leg, his heel coming down with the force of a falling mountain.
Bang!
The femur shattered instantly.
Adonis reached down and grabbed Logan’s left arm. “And this, is for the ’accident’ you arranged in the stables when I was ten.”
Another jerk. “Crack!”
Another spray of crimson. Logan’s second arm was torn away with the same clinical brutality.
The “Golden Heir” was now nothing more than a bleeding, mangled trunk of meat, his screams reduced to a pathetic bubbling wheeze.
Adonis looked down at the ruin of his half-brother, his heart completely devoid of mercy.
He felt the Chaos Ultima energy moving in his palms.
That violet flame was hungry to consume.
”You always wanted to be the light of this house, Logan. So, let’s make you shine brightly.”
Adonis placed his hand on Logan’s forehead.
“Nooooooooo….”
“Sizzle! Sizzle”
The violet flames erupted with a cold, soul-eating vacuum.
Logan’s remaining legs were incinerated where they sat.
Thr flesh turned completely black and peeled away from the bone in seconds.
The fire spread upward, devouring the torso, the screams finally dying out as Logan’s vocal cords were turned to ash.
In less than a minute, there was nothing left on the floor but a pile of grey cinders and the acrid smell of burnt hair and carbon.
The future heir of the Kingsbane house had been erased from existence, leaving no soul to even haunt the halls.
Adonis looked at the ash once, them walked to the window, looking out toward the Royal Palace.
The sun was setting, casting a blood-red light over the city.
”One down Mother. Your home is finally getting cleared out.”
