Chapter 172: Chapter 172: The Dragon Empire
The battlefield was now a cathedral of slaughter. Adonis stood amidst the red mist, the grotesque, writhing mass of the Demon Emperor Vahl looming behind him like a mountain of cosmic horror.
The air itself seemed to bow, the atmospheric pressure heavy enough to make the surviving soldiers vomit.
Adonis did not shout. He did not need to. His voice was carried by the very Chaos that saturated the valley, vibrating in the marrow of every living being for miles.
”People of the Western Continent!” Adonis began, his voice cold and devoid of any human warmth. “You came here to extinguish a flame because you feared the heat. You looked at my kingdom and saw a threat to your petty borders and your fragile crowns. You were right to be afraid. But your mistake was thinking that I am merely a King. I am the inevitability you’ve spent centuries trying to ignore.”
He stepped over the shattered remains of a Koran siege golem, his boots crunching on stone and bone. He then looked directly into the recording crystals held by the retreating mages, knowing his face was being projected into every throne room across the continent.
”From this moment on, the era of independent kingdoms is over. The borders you’ve drawn in blood are now meaningless. I am declaring a state of total unification. Any crown that does not bow before the Dragon Empire by sunset tomorrow will be fed to the shadows. Any city that closes its gates will become a tomb. I am not asking for your diplomacy. I am informing you of your place.”
He raised his hand, and the Golden Cube above pulsed with a violet radiance that blotted out the sun.
”Mobilize!” Adonis commanded.
The response was instantaneous. The shadow bridge fractured into thousands of smaller portals. The tens of thousands of skeletal knights, the Reapers, and the bone-dragons didn’t march toward a single target.
They split with mechanical, supernatural precision. Squadrons of undead, led by Millia’s dark authority, vanished into the rifts, reappearing instantly at the borders of Halveth, Sareth, and the surrounding territories. It was a global blitzkrieg launched from the center of a battlefield.
“Fuck! We humans are gone for!”
—
Thousands of miles away, in the High Council Chamber of the Western Coalition, the atmosphere was one of pure, unadulterated hysteria. The Great Mirror in the center of the room displayed the carnage at Dragonia’s borders. The Kings of the West, men who had spent their lives debating taxes and minor skirmishes, were now clutching their silken robes with trembling hands.
”This is not a war!” King Theobold of Halveth screamed, his crown askew. “How can we fight that? He summoned a Calamity! The Demon Emperor is eating my vanguard as we speak! My scouts report that portals are opening in our capital’s town square!”
”Silence, Theobold!” King Alaric of Sareth slammed his fist on the table, though his own face was ashen. “We still have the Churches! The Dragon King is a fiend, a creature of demonic order. This is no longer a political dispute. This is a Holy Crusade! If the steel of men cannot kill him, then the light of the Heavens must!”
”He’s right,” the Arch-Prelate of the Koran Church muttered, standing up. His eyes were wide with a religious fervor born of absolute terror.
“We must send word to the Holy Sees of the distant East and the Southern Isles. Every Holy Knight, every Paladin of the Sun, and every Exorcist must be summoned. We will brand him the Great Heretic. We will call upon the Gods themselves to strike him down!”
The Kings nodded frantically, clutching at this straw of hope.
They soon began to scrawl desperate letters, their pens scratching against parchment as they begged for divine intervention. They ordered a scorched-earth defense, commanded their citizens to barricade themselves in temples, and prayed that the “light” would finally show itself. They didn’t realize that the light they worshipped was the very thing Millia’s shadows were currently devouring.
Back at the Dragon Kingdom, the victory was absolute. The coalition army had either been absorbed by Vahl or had fled into the woods, driven mad by the sight of the Demon Emperor.
Adonis ascended the palace stairs, his aura still radiating a suffocating pressure that made the Serpent-kin guards bow until their foreheads touched the stone. Mariana and Sapphira met him at the landing, their expressions a mix of pride and a new, deep-seated reverence.
”Husband,” Mariana said, her voice smitten. “The mobilization is complete. The nearest three kingdoms will fall within the hour. But the Church… they are already lighting the signal pyres. They will call for the Holy Knights.”
”Let them call whoever they want,” Adonis replied, walking past them toward his throne. “I want them all in one place. It saves me the trouble of hunting them down individually. Sapphira, coordinate with the Beast Kingdom. Tell Leona’s father to move his tribes into the vacuum left by the fallen kingdoms. I want a new administration established before the blood is dry.”
”Consider it done, my husband,” Sapphira bowed, her mind already calculating the logistics of a continental empire.
Millia descended from the Golden Cube, her dark gown trailing like smoke behind her. She walked to Adonis’s side, her new goddess-like presence perfectly complementing his chaotic dominance.
”The undead are established in the city centers, Adonis. The humans are praying in their cathedrals. They think their gods will hear them.”
Adonis sat on his throne, resting his chin on his hand. He looked out over his expanding empire, the dark hair falling over his violet eyes.
”They’ve spent their whole lives reading stories about heroes defeating monsters. They think because I’ve summoned demons and raised the dead, the ’plot’ dictates that I must lose. But, they don’t realize I’m the one holding the pen. There is no hero coming to save them. There is only the end of their book.”
He looked at Vexa, who had returned to her sword form, humming with the satisfaction of a job well done. The dominance was total.
”Tonight, we will feast,” He declared. “Tomorrow, we will erase the word ’Kingdom’ from the map. There will only be one ruler: The Dragon Emperor.”
