Chapter 120: Chapter 120: Marry The Dragon Queen?
Next day.
“Claudia, you had enough fun. We need to meet the Queen,” Maria said, her tone a little sharper than usual.
Claudia raised an eyebrow, catching the subtle flush on Princess Maria’s cheeks.
“What’s the rush, Princess?” Claudia teased, glancing at the couple with a sly smile. “You two were at it all night, waking me up over and over. And now you’re complaining about me enjoying myself a bit? Not fair, don’t you think?”
Maria’s face turned even redder, and she immediately raised her hands in apology. “Sorry, sorry! We completely forgot you were there, Claudia. I promise, it won’t happen again.”
Adonis couldn’t help himself and grinned mischievously. “Claudia, if you’d joined us, I wouldn’t have minded.”
Mariana’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “Did you say something, darling?”
Adonis felt a cold sweat run down his spine. He quickly shook his head. “No, no, nothing at all, wifey. I was just kidding.”
Claudia and Mariana fell silent, but the tension in the air was thick and unspoken.
–
After that, all three of them requested to meet the Dragon Queen.
In response, Dragon Queen Sapphira summoned them to the Ancestral Hall, where all the elder dragons and Dragon Lords had gathered to meet the Progenitor’s Successor.
When Adonis, Mariana and Claudia arrived at the Ancestral Hall, the first thing they noticed was the massive dragon statue standing at the center of the chamber.
All the Elders and Dragon Lords surrounded the statue in solemn silence.
However, the moment they felt Adonis’s draconic aura, everyone felt their blood running faster than usual.
This was bloodline resonance, something that proved beyond any doubt the authenticity of the claim that this human boy was the Progenitor’s true heir.
“So it is true, my Queen. You have truly found the Progenitor’s Successor,” one elder muttered, eyes shining with a reverent look.
Everyone bowed at once. Some even knelt in respect and surrender.
Only Sapphira remained standing.
“Honourable Heir, we respectfully welcome you to the Land of Dragons.”
“With your arrival, the Dragon race can finally be at peace.”
“With your blessing, our proud race will once again soar through the sky and dominate the Earth.”
“Roar! Those humans who have oppressed us through their false unity will be destroyed now that their Gods have abandoned them.”
After the formalities of the Ancestral Hall settled into something more conversational, Adonis turned to Sapphira directly.
“Dragon Queen, can you tell us how far are we from the Fernis Kingdom?”
Sapphira regarded him with those fathomless sapphire eyes. “Two seas and one desert,” she said simply.
Adonis was quiet for a moment, absorbing the distance.
“Is there a way to get there quickly?” he asked worriedly.
This was the worry of someone running calculations rather than panicking.
Sapphira tilted her head slightly. “There are ways. But I have a more relevant question.”
“Why would you want to go back? Every human kingdom with any awareness of what happened in that capital wants you dead. You destroyed half a city, humiliated a king, and left a purple mushroom cloud visible from three border Kingdoms.
Returning there would be walking back into the fire you just escaped.”
“I have companions there,” Adonis said.
“You have companions here now as well.”
He met her charming sapphire eyes without wavering.
“Different companions, people I was building something with And I intend to go back to Fernis Kingdom eventually. Not to reconcile with anyone. To destroy it.”
The Ancestral Hall went very quiet with his bolf declaration..
Sapphira looked at him for a long moment without speaking, and the expression on her face moved through something that was not quite surprise and not quite approval but existed in the space between them.
“You intend to raise an army?” she said.
“I already started,” he replied. “In Fernis. Before everything collapsed.”
She was quiet again. Then something shifted in her expression, a decision being made behind those sapphire eyes with the calm efficiency of someone who does not deliberate longer than necessary once the relevant information is available.
“Why would want to raise an army in hostile territory, when you are standing in the middle of ten thousand dragons who bowed to you yesterday?”
Adonis said nothing, listening.
“Build your army here,” Sapphira continued. “The Dragon Kingdom will support you. Every lord, every elder, every warrior in this land felt your bloodline resonance this morning. They will follow you in ways that no human soldier ever would.”
She paused.
“As for your companions, I will have them brought here. Safely and quickly. You have my word on that.”
Claudia, standing to Adonis’s left, nodded without hesitation. “She is right, Adonis,” she said flatly.
“Strategically this is the stronger position. Fortified, loyal, and entirely outside the reach of Fernis or Gratis without significant naval commitment on their part.”
Mariana pressed her hand gently against Adonis’s arm.
“Please,” she said quietly. “Fernis is too dangerous right now. We can grow stronger here, we can also bring everyone here. This is much safer,”
Her pink eyes held his with quiet urgency.
“You shoukd agree, Adonis.”
Adonis looked around the Ancestral Hall.
The dragon elders watching him with those reverent, burning eyes. The Dragon Lords standing with the composed readiness of warriors who had been waiting for something to commit to.
Sapphira before him, offering resources that no human kingdom could rival.
He exhaled slowly, then replied:
“Alright, let’s go with that.”
The hall responded with sound of approval that moved through the stone floor and up through the soles of his feet.
Then one of the eldest of the elder dragons stepped forward. His scales deeply weathered, but his voice still held the authority of great age and zero concern for diplomatic restraint.
“There is one matter that must be addressed first,” the elder said, looking between Adonis and Sapphira.
“If the Progenitor’s Successor wishes legitimate authority over the Dragon Race, recognized by law, by blood, and by the old covenant, he must be bound to the Royal Bloodline.”
“He must marry the Queen.”
“….”
The hall went completely silent.
Adonis blinked once.
Then from beside him came a sound that was not quite a word and not quite a growl but contained elements of both, and the temperature in the immediate vicinity dropped by several perceptible degrees.
“This is impossible!”
Mariana stepped forward.
Her pink hair had somehow become more aggressively pink. Her eyes, usually warm and soft, turned cold
“This would never happen,” she said.
The single sentence filled the Ancestral Hall with a completeness that the elder’s announcement had not managed.
“He is my husband. Mine. I did not renounce my kingdom, my name, my family, and nearly die from a spear through my chest so that someone could stand in a very large room and suggest I simply share him.”
She smiled, and the smile was beautiful and absolutely terrifying.
“With respect, honored elder, the answer is no. It will continue to be no. Anyone who would like to discuss this further is welcome to try.”
The elder stared at her.
Several Dragon Lords who had faced genuine combat without flinching took a small, collective step backward.
“This human girl also have higher dragon bloodline? But how?”
Sapphira looked at Mariana for a long moment with those unreadable sapphire eyes.
Then, very quietly, the corner of her mouth moved upward.
