Chapter 212: Adam’s Dominant Shift
Adam’s eyes remained fixed on Lilith’s face, his heart pounding a frantic rhythm against his ribs. ’Damn… she’s already lost her mind.’
Lilith didn’t seem to notice his internal panic. She leaned closer, her nose brushing against his neck Inhaling his scent like it was the only thing keeping her tethered to sanity.
“You smell… different.” Her voice was a whisper, warm against his skin. “Like blood. And something else.” She pulled back slightly, her crimson eyes searching his face. “Something new.”
Adam’s throat bobbed. “I’ve been traveling. Probably picked up… scents.”
Lilith’s lips curved. She didn’t look convinced.
Then she wrapped her arms around him, pressing her body against his chest, her face buried in the curve of his shoulder. Her grip was fierce almost desperate.
“This is your punishment,” she murmured, her voice muffled against his clothes. “For leaving me behind.”
Adam’s arms, still hovering awkwardly at his sides, slowly came up to rest on her back. His voice was quiet, apologetic.
“That wasn’t my choice. I was teleported. I couldn’t come back right away.”
Lilith’s fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt.
“I know.” Her voice was softer now, the sharp edges dulled by something that sounded almost like pain. “But that doesn’t make it forgivable. I thought… I thought you were gone. That I’d never see you again.”
Adam went still.
The weight of her words settled over him, heavy and cold. He thought of her alone in the aftermath of the battle, surrounded by bodies, not knowing if he was alive or dead. He thought of the emptiness in her voice when she had told him about Elise’s capture—the flat, hollow tone that had terrified him more than any enemy ever could.
’She was scared.’ The realization hit him like a physical blow.
His arms tightened around her. He pulled her closer, holding her against his chest, his hand coming up to cradle the back of her head.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I’m sorry I made you worry.”
Lilith didn’t respond. But her grip on his shirt loosened slightly… relaxing. Her breathing slowed, evening out against his neck.
Adam stared at the fire, his hand moving in slow, soothing circles on her back.
’She’s always so composed,’ he thought. ’Always in control. But underneath… she’s fragile too. She just hides it better than most.’
He pressed his cheek against her hair, closing his eyes.
For a long moment, there was only the crackle of the fire and the soft whisper of the wind. Lilith’s warmth seeped into him, chasing away the lingering chill of the night.
Then he felt it.
Lips—soft, warm, pressing against the side of his neck.
Adam’s eyes snapped open.
“What are you doing?” His voice came out rougher than he intended.
Lilith didn’t answer immediately. Her lips traced a path along his jaw, feather-light, teasing.
“Collecting my payment,” she murmured against his skin.
Adam’s breath caught. His hand, still on her back, tightened reflexively.
“Lilith—”
She kissed him.
On the corner of his mouth, where the tension gathered. Soft. Lingering.
“You taste like nervousness,” she observed, pulling back just enough to meet his eyes. Her smile was slow, satisfied. “And something sweeter.”
Adam’s face flushed. His heart hammered against his ribs.
“You’re impossible,” he managed.
Lilith’s smile widened. “And yet, you’re not pushing me away.”
Adam opened his mouth. Closed it.
He couldn’t argue with that.
Adam winced as Lilith’s fangs sank into the side of his neck. A soft gasp escaped him, more surprise than pain.
“Aghh—Lilith?!”
She didn’t answer. Her lips sealed around the small wound, drinking in slow, measured pulls.
Adam’s hand, still tangled in her hair, tightened. His other hand pressed against her lower back, steadying her or perhaps steadying himself.
’Is she… jealous? Of Isolde?’ The thought surfaced unbidden, and Adam’s eyes widened slightly. ’No. That’s ridiculous. She wouldn’t—’
Lilith pulled back.
Her lips were stained crimson, her tongue darting out to catch a stray drop. Her crimson eyes, half-lidded, met his with an expression that was equal parts satisfaction and something darker.
“Your blood tastes strange, Adam.” Her voice was soft, almost dreamy. “Different from before. Sweeter. More… addictive.”
Adam’s throat worked. His hand moved from her hair to her jaw, tilting her face up.
“Don’t get addicted,” he said, his voice rougher than he intended. “I’ll dry up.”
Lilith’s smile widened. “I can’t make any promises.”
Then she kissed him.
It was deep, demanding, her tongue sliding against his with a confidence that left no room for hesitation. Adam tasted his own blood, mingled with the strange sweetness of Lilith’s mouth. The world seemed to narrow to the heat of her body against his, the soft sounds of their breathing, the crackle of the fire somewhere far away.
When she finally pulled back, Adam was breathless. His face was flushed. His heart pounded.
Adam’s mind was racing even as his body responded to her.
’If this keeps going… I’ll only ever be dominated by Lilith,’ he thought, a spark of determination igniting inside him. ’No. Not tonight. I need to be the one who can dominate her.’
Without warning, his hands slid down to Lilith’s hips, gripping them firmly. He pulled her closer, then in one smooth motion, he shifted their positions. Adam rolled them over so that he was now hovering above her, his body pressing her down against the soft grass and his cloak beneath them.
Lilith’s crimson eyes widened in clear surprise and confusion. For a moment, the usual confident, teasing smile on her lips faltered.
“Adam…?” she breathed, voice slightly unsteady.
Adam looked down at her, his gaze dark and intense. His voice came out low, rough with newfound resolve.
“I won’t hold back anymore, Lilith.”
Before she could respond, he captured her lips in a deep, demanding kiss. His tongue moved with practiced skill—techniques he had learned in his previous life—teasing, exploring, and dominating her mouth in a way that left no room for her usual control. One of his hands roamed boldly over her body, tracing the seductive curves of her waist, her hips, and the soft swell of her breasts through her clothes, feeling the heat of her skin underneath.
Lilith’s eyes flew open in shock.
’Adam… he’s become so much more aggressive…’ The thought flashed through her mind, a strange mix of surprise and thrill rushing through her veins.
The kiss broke after what felt like an eternity. Both of them were breathing hard, chests heaving. Adam pulled back just enough to stare into her beautiful crimson eyes, which were now slightly glazed with surprise and something hotter.
“Make me a soundproof room with your threads,” he ordered, his voice low and commanding, leaving no space for argument.
The dominant tone in his words sent a visible shiver through Lilith. Without hesitation, she obeyed. Thin, silvery threads began to emerge from her fingertips, weaving rapidly around them. The threads formed a thick, cocoon-like structure—completely enclosing them both, creating a private, soundproof space that looked like a soft, silky pod. The outside world disappeared behind the opaque, shimmering walls.
Just as the last thread sealed the entrance and Lilith opened her mouth to say something, Adam didn’t give her the chance.
He pushed her down firmly onto the soft, thread-woven “bed” that her own silk had created. Lilith’s back met the surprisingly comfortable surface with a small gasp.
Adam loomed over her, his eyes burning with intent as he looked down at her flushed face.
“I’m going to mess you up tonight, Lilith.”
Adam didn’t waste another second. He lowered his head and captured the side of her neck with his mouth, kissing the sensitive skin hungrily before his tongue traced a slow, deliberate line along her pulse.
“This is payback,” he murmured against her throat, voice low and husky. “For all the times you teased me.”
He licked her again, longer this time, savoring the taste of her skin. Lilith’s body jolted beneath him. A soft, involuntary sound escaped her lips.
“Ahh…”
The usual confident, teasing Lilith was suddenly quiet—confused and strangely submissive under his sudden dominance. Her hands hovered uncertainly at his sides, no longer pulling him closer with her usual control.
Inside her mind, a single thought surfaced, laced with both thrill and a hint of alarm:
’Ahh… it seems I’ve awakened something dangerous…’
Adam’s hands moved with purpose. He tugged at the front of her clothes, opening them slowly to reveal the beautiful, pale curves of her body underneath. As her garments fell open, his own shirt was already half-undone from their earlier struggle. The firelight filtering faintly through the translucent threads illuminated the firm lines of his chest.
Lilith’s crimson eyes widened slightly when she noticed the mark on the left side of his chest—a striking white dragon tattoo that seemed to glow faintly against his skin.
Her fingers reached up instinctively, tracing the elegant, powerful lines of the dragon with curious, feather-light touches.
“Why is there a tattoo on your chest…?” she asked, voice breathy and softer than usual.
Adam looked down at her, still hovering close. “It’s because of the Oath of the Dragon. Don’t worry, it’s not dangerous. Do you not like it?”
Lilith continued running her fingers over the tattoo, exploring the smooth, raised lines with clear fascination. A small, sweet smile curved her lips.
“I like it,” she whispered, her voice carrying a rare, almost shy sweetness. “It makes you look more… manly.”
The soft, honeyed tone in her voice sent a fresh surge of heat through Adam. His pulse quickened, desire flaring hotter than before.
Without another word, he leaned down and kissed her again—deeper, more possessive this time. Lilith moaned softly into the kiss, clearly enjoying it. Her hands slid up his back, fingers pressing and roaming heatedly over his muscles, pulling him closer as if she couldn’t get enough.
