Chapter 218: Lilith’s Teasing
They emerged from the forest’s edge to find the clearing transformed.
The thread cocoon that had hung between the trees was gone. In its place stood Lilith.
Her gown had shifted, the dark fabric now threaded with silver that caught the fading light like moonlight on water. Her hair, always pale, seemed to glow with an inner luminescence, each strand fine as silk. Her features had softened, the sharp edges of her beauty smoothed into something almost ethereal. Even her presence felt different—calmer, more controlled, as if the restless hunger that had always simmered beneath her serene mask had finally found peace.
But the most striking change was her aura. Where before it had been sharp, predatory, a razor’s edge barely contained, now it felt like silk—smooth, elegant, but no less dangerous. Threads of silver light drifted around her like a living shroud, responding to her every breath.
A notification flashed across Adam’s vision.
[Lilith has evolved!]
[Species: Crimson Weave Sovereign → Umbral Weave Matriarch]
[New Traits Unlocked: Umbral Majesty, A subtle psychic pressure that weakens enemies around her, making them hesitant and reducing their combat effectiveness.]
[New Skills Acquired:
◇Psionic Cascade, A psychic shockwave that spreads in all directions. It attacks enemies’ minds directly, causing confusion, hallucinations, or unconsciousness. Effective against multiple targets at once.
◇Kinetic Pulse, A focused, telekinetic shockwave that strikes enemies with pure force. Can push, cripple, or crush targets. Usable as a projectile or area-of-effect blast.]
Adam stared at the words, then at Lilith.
“Umbral Weave Matriarch…” He tested the name. “That’s quite the upgrade.”
Lilith’s crimson eyes, brighter than before, fixed on him. Then they drifted to Isolde—to the way the vampire stood closer to Adam than necessary, to the faint flush still lingering on her pale cheeks.
Her voice, when it came, was soft.
“Did something happen while I was… sleeping?”
Adam shook his head, his expression carefully neutral. “No. We just bought supplies.” He gestured vaguely toward the village. “There are Solarian soldiers everywhere. Investigating the massacre. We need to leave.”
Lilith’s gaze lingered on Isolde for a moment longer, then shifted back to Adam. Her lips curved into a slow, knowing smile.
“You’re avoiding my question.”
Adam’s eye twitched. “I’m not.”
“You are.”
Ignis, who had been watching the exchange with growing impatience, scrambled to her feet. Her flames flickered with excitement as she studied Lilith’s transformed appearance.
“Ooh! You look so pretty now, Lilith! Your aura feels… softer.” She crossed her arms, puffing out her chest. “But don’t get too proud! You’re stronger now, sure, but still not as strong as me!”
Lilith’s serene smile didn’t waver. She reached out, her fingers brushing Ignis’s cheek with deceptive gentleness.
“Of course, Ignis. You are the mighty dragon.”
Ignis beamed, oblivious to the faint edge in Lilith’s voice.
Adam turned to Lilith fully, his crimson eyes sweeping over her transformed appearance. His voice, when it came, was quieter than before.
“You look more beautiful now, Lilith.”
Lilith’s smile softened—just slightly, just enough to be genuine.
“Thank you, Adam.”
Adam cleared his throat, turning away to busy himself with gathering their packs. His voice was brisk, businesslike.
“We need to move. Kaelthar is still days away, and those soldiers won’t stay in that village forever. If they start expanding their search…”
Isolde pulled her cloak tighter, her red hair hidden once more beneath the hood. “Then we should leave before nightfall.”
Ignis stretched her arms high above her head, a wide grin spreading across her face. “Alright! Time to fly! We’re heading to a new territory!”
She stepped away from the group, and her transformation began. Flames rippled across her skin, scales replacing flesh, her form expanding until a magnificent dragon stood before them. Her crimson scales gleamed in the fading light, wings stretching wide, catching the breeze. Birds nesting in the nearby trees burst into the sky, startled by the sudden emergence of the apex predator.
Adam shielded his eyes from the gust of wind kicked up by her wings. “Ignis, if you get tired, say something. We can switch off.”
Ignis’s draconic head turned toward him, her eyes gleaming with pride. “Heh. Easy. I won’t get tired.” Her voice rumbled through her chest, carrying the warmth of her flames.
Lilith glided toward Ignis’s back, her movements fluid and graceful. She settled between the dragon’s shoulder ridges, her silver-threaded gown settling around her like a pool of moonlight. Isolde hesitated for only a moment before following, pulling her hood tighter and climbing up behind Lilith.
Adam was the last. He vaulted onto Ignis’s back, settling in front of Lilith, his body positioned to shield them from the wind. Then he closed his eyes, focusing.
[Deep Camouflage Activated.]
The air around them shimmered. The dragon’s form, the three figures on her back—all of it blurred, then faded, becoming translucent against the sky. To anyone watching from below, there would be nothing but empty air and the faintest ripple of heat.
“Ready,” Adam said quietly.
Ignis’s powerful legs pushed off the ground. Her wings beat once, twice, and they lifted into the sky, leaving the clearing behind.
The wind rushed past them, cool and clean, carrying the scent of pine and distant rain. Below, the forest shrank, becoming a patchwork of green and shadow. Above, the clouds stretched toward the horizon, painted gold and pink by the setting sun.
Ignis’s wings cut through the clouds, the world shrinking beneath them into a patchwork of green and gold. The wind rushed past, cool and steady, carrying the scent of distant rain.
Adam sat at the front, his body positioned to break the wind for those behind him. Lilith pressed close against his back, her arms wrapped loosely around his waist. Isolde sat behind her, cloaked and silent, her crimson hair hidden beneath the hood.
Lilith’s lips brushed against Adam’s ear, her voice barely audible over the wind.
“Adam… because of yesterday… my lower part still hurts…”
Adam’s shoulders stiffened. His face flushed, hidden from view by the angle of his head. He kept his voice low, careful not to let it carry.
“Really? …Sorry. I was too rough on you.”
Lilith’s arms tightened around his waist. Her voice took on a teasing edge, soft and amused.
“Hmm… rough how? Tell me.”
Adam’s jaw tightened. His hands, resting on Ignis’s scales, curled slightly.
’This woman…’ His internal voice was caught between exasperation and reluctant affection. ’She’s… she’s toying with me.’
Behind them, Isolde’s hood shifted. Her pale eyes flicked toward the two of them, then quickly away. Her lips pressed into a thin line.
’Tch,’ she thought, her internal voice flat and irritated. ’Crazy couple.’
She pulled her cloak tighter and stared determinedly at the clouds, pretending she couldn’t hear a thing.
Lilith shifted closer, her body pressing firmly against Adam’s back. The scent of her filled his senses. Her chest, full and warm, pressed against his shoulder blades, and Adam’s breath caught.
Her lips brushed his ear again, her voice a low murmur.
“Answer my question, Adam.”
Adam’s mind raced. His internal voice was a chaotic jumble. ’She’s… she’s getting bolder. Was I not dominant enough yesterday?!’
Lilith, her crimson eyes half-lidded, watched the back of his head with quiet satisfaction. Her internal voice was smug, amused. ’Hehe… Adam’s confused. How cute.’
She pressed even closer, her arms tightening around his waist, her body molding against his. Her thoughts drifted, warm and yearning. ’Yesterday… he was so dominant. His strong body… that gaze that looked at me like I was prey… it was incredible. I want to be dominated by him again…’
Adam’s throat bobbed. He could feel her heartbeat against his back, or maybe that was his own.
“…You’re not going to let this go, are you?” he muttered, his voice barely audible.
Lilith’s smile pressed against his shoulder.
“No.”
Adam’s jaw tightened. His eyes narrowed.
“This woman…”
His hand moved—fast, deliberate, catching Lilith’s hip firmly. She gasped, her crimson eyes widening as he turned slightly, fixing her with a sharp, commanding gaze. His other hand came up, cupping her cheek, tilting her face toward his. His voice dropped to a low whisper, meant only for her.
“Seems like I didn’t discipline you enough yesterday, Lilith.”
His breath, warm against her skin, made her shiver. A soft, involuntary sound escaped her throat—almost a whimper.
Adam’s thumb brushed her lower lip, slow and deliberate.
“I prefer you when you’re calm. Elegant. Like a proper lady.” His voice was silk over steel. “You can do that, can’t you?”
Lilith’s breath hitched. Her eyes fluttered, caught between defiance and submission. The words weren’t a request. They were an order.
She nodded slowly. Obedient.
Adam’s lips curved into a faint smile.
“Good.”
He released her cheek, but his hand remained on her hip, steadying her.
“If you obey me, I’ll give you a reward. So be patient. Behave. Understand?”
Lilith’s cheeks flushed a deep, rosy red. Her voice came out soft, almost breathless.
“Yes… Master…”
Adam’s eye twitched. His internal voice was a chaotic jumble.
’Damn… did I go too far?! She’s looking at me like… like I’m…’
He glanced at her face—flushed, lips parted, eyes half-lidded with something that looked dangerously close to worship.
’…She’s enjoying this.’
