A hard scent of blood flooded William’s nostrils.

The smell was sharp enough to drag him out of unconsciousness before his thoughts had fully settled.

His eyelids fluttered open slowly, his vision blurred and heavy, until the outline of the room sharpened and settled in his mind.

He realised he was strapped to a chair.

Thick restraints locked his wrists and arms in place and felt cold against his skin, the pressure on his limbs was firm enough to restrain individuals till S rank strength.

His head tilted slightly as he took in his surroundings, noting the enclosed room, the dim lighting, and the curtains blocking all the sunlight from the windows.

The system’s voice sounded indifferent in his mind

“How much time has passed?” William asked, his voice was steady despite the position he was in.

His jaw tightened slightly. “What is she doing?”

William raised his gaze.

Katherine stood several steps away, her back partially turned to him as she carefully handled a glass bottle filled with blood.

Her movements were practiced like she wasn’t doing it for the first time. There was nothing rushed or clumsy about her movements.

She walked toward a closet built into the wall and opened it, revealing shelves stacked tightly with countless bottles, all filled with the same dark red liquid.

William studied the room more closely now, recognizing the layout. The dimensions, the placement of the furniture, and even the way the walls curved.

“This must be her dorm,” he said in his mind

“Um… you woke up?”

“Yes, Miss Kath, I did,” William replied evenly.

He rose from the chair and took a step forward before closing the distance between them in a blur.

“It’s such a shame,” he continued, his tone was mild but edged with disgust, “to see you carrying out such a shameful task. I wonder how Seraphine would react when I tell her how her best friend abducted me and extracted my blood.”

He stopped in front of her, close enough to look directly into her eyes. He searched her face for hesitation, guilt, or even fear.

There was nothing.

Instead, Katherine smirked.

“You’ll never do that,” she said with confidence.

“Oh?” William chuckled softly. “Why do you think so?”

“Because I know a dirty little secret of yours.”

As she spoke, one of her fingers stretched out and slid lightly along his neck.

The touch was cold against his skin. When she pulled her hand back, there was a drop of blood on her fingertip.

William’s hand rose instinctively to the spot she had touched. His fingers came away red, and the realization that his neck had been pierced hit him.

Since sunlight was absent, his wounds didn’t heal naturally

His gaze snapped back to her.

Katherine lifted the blood-soaked finger and licked it slowly, her eyes never leaving his. Her expression became playful and unsettling.

“Bullshit,” William said flatly before he turned away from her, dismissing the display, deciding that she had simply gone mad with the thirst of blood.

“You are behind the raven mask.”

The words stopped him mid-step.

William turned slowly.

Katherine was giggling now, clearly amused by his reaction.

“I know you are part of the group that calls themselves the Eternal Sovereign’s servants,” she continued.

“You must be the Black Raven who saved me in the abyss.”

Her smile widened.

“And I also saw White Raven, who saved Seraphine. Must be your aide. That’s why Sera returned without even a scratch.”

William moved before Kathrine’s thoughts could catch up.

In an instant, he was in front of her, his hand grabbed her hair, and he slammed her back against the wall in a dark corner of the room.

The impact pinched her, but due to her physique, she was still saved from any damage. A sharp gasp escaped her as his other hand braced beside her head, blocking any escape.

She struggled instinctively, hands clawing at his arm, but his grip was unyielding.

Her eyes lifted to meet his.

Deep sapphire blue eyes stared back at her, cold in a way that sent fear crawling up her spine.

“Say it,” William growled. “Who told you, and how many people know?”

Despite the pain and the position she was in, Katherine bared her teeth and spoke through strained breaths. “Do you think I’m scared of you?”

“Don’t give me a reason to make you scared, Kath,” William said quietly.

“If it were anyone else, you would have been dead before you knew it. I’m respecting Sera here. You’re her friend. Don’t make this difficult for yourself.”

“Do whatever you want, Will,” Katherine replied, her voice shaking but resolute. “I know you better than you think. I know you won’t kill me. I’ve tasted your blood. I know it.”

The certainty in her tone caught him off guard.

His grip loosened.

“Fine”

William stepped back and exhaled slowly. “I wanted to do this the easy way, but you forced me.”

He turned and began walking toward the door in long and purposeful strides.

“Where are you going?” Katherine asked hoarsely, panic creeping into her voice.

William stopped and glanced back over his shoulder.

“To inform the Eternal Sovereign that my identity has been compromised and the vampire princess and potentially the vampire empress know of my true identity,” he said calmly.

“It’s better if the Sovereign himself handles the Bloodveil Empire. Who knows. Maybe the whole empire sees a power shift. Maybe you disappear out of existence along with your mother.”

He turned to leave.

“Wait!”

The fear in her voice was real now.

Katherine stumbled forward, trembling, tears already forming. “You’re not serious, are you? You’d do that to a friend?”

“I tried the friendly approach earlier,” William replied without turning. “You didn’t listen.”

He stepped into the living area.

Katherine followed him, her composure breaking completely. “That was your friendly approach?” she shouted, voice cracking. “Pinning me to a wall and grabbing my hair like a beast?”

Tears spilled freely now.

“And now you want to kill my mother? You’re evil!”

Her voice broke entirely, and the sound made William stop.

He turned around slowly.

Guilt flickered across his face as he looked at her, crouched on the floor, sobbing, arms wrapped around herself.

“Hey,” he said, softer now. “If you just tell me how you know, it’ll be simple, right?”

He approached her cautiously.

“Hey…”

Szzzz.

A sharp hiss cut through the air.

Katherine raised her hand and sprayed the contents of a can in her hands directly into his eyes, the mist coating his face before he could react.

William recoiled, blinking hard, momentarily disoriented.

That moment was enough.

Katherine lunged forward and drove a needle into his neck with shaking hands.
