Her body tensed up, and her hand subconsciously touched the empty pocket in the hopes of taking out a talisman.

“My son! My son!” Mathilda, with limping legs, rushed toward Xander, and tears were streaming down her face.

She stopped in front of Xander and hugged him with care and concern. “Xander! Wake up! Dear! Are you alright?”

“He is, Mrs. Ferns.” Lana’s chilling voice cut through the air, causing Mathilda to pause. Guilt and shame flickered in her eyes as she looked at Lana, and words of gratitude rolled off her tongue.

“Thank you so much, Lana; if it weren’t for your help…”

“You all woud have died.” Lana interrupted; her eyes were devoid of any emotions, and the chill in her eyes was difficult to ignore.

“That… for the earlier… I apologize… I shouldn’t have interrupted…” Mathilda’s voice became lower and lower toward the end, as the weight of her mistake settled in.

If Mathilda Ferns thought that Lana would gloss over the matter after a single apology, then she was in for a rude awakening.

“Oh, really?” Lana smirked; she pointed at the head wound from which blood was still seeping out and chuckled darkly. “This is caused by you. I want compensation.”

“You want money? I can give it to you…” Mathilda started with a relaxed stance, believing that a few million could resolve the issue.

But the next words Lana spoke were chilling and cruel: “Money? You mean papers? No. I don’t need them. Just slam your head against the wall and incur the same head injury as me.”

Mathilda was stunned by Lana’s sharp retort; her mouth opened and closed, but no words reached her tongue.

“What? Stunned by my audacity?” Lana laughed, her beautiful silver hair swaying like tree leaves in a strong breeze.

Even the crimson blood trickling down from the injury grazing her side profile added a touch of fragility to her beauty, making one yearn to protect her.

It was a beautiful sight if one ignored the madness teetering at the corner of her eyes.

“I was too,” Lana drawled, her hand plastered on the wall, and she smirked. “I was stunned that even when you knew about the existence of the ghost possessing your son, even when I had warned you not to interrupt, and even when I repeatedly begged you not to fall for petty tricks, you did!”

The coldness on her face slowly transformed into a mocking expression.

“Did you realize how much I suffered because of your one foolish mistake, Mrs. Ferns? I could have ended the exorcism completely unharmed. But no… no… You didn’t trust me from the beginning. You looked down on me, tried to shoo me away, and even when I was injured, you didn’t check on me; instead, your first thought was your son.”

“I… I am… his mother…” Mathilda weakly defended, but Lana only laughed with mockery.

“Listen, lady, I never asked for all of your attention. A simple ’I will instruct my maid to tend to your wounds’ would have sufficed. But what did you do?”

If Lana were injured because of her own mistake, she wouldn’t have raised such a demand.

But Mathilda’s attitude truly made her furious. Without giving Mathilda any face, Lana limped away.

Mathilda stared at Lana with a flabbergasted expression.

Once outside, Mr. Crow clamped lightly on Lana’s shoulder and asked with a dark expression,

“Are you going to let them off just like that?”

“Don’t worry, they will deliver themselves to my door.” Lana’s voice was calm and full of calculation, as if she had foreseen every event.

All the losses she suffered, she made sure to remember them.

Mr. Crow frowned. His wing slowly poked Lana’s injury, making her hiss in pain.

“What the heck are you doing? That hurts.” Lana, who was wiping away the blood on her face in disgust, spoke sharply.

Mr. Crow wasn’t deterred; instead, his expression was serious as if he stated,

“We should go to a healer.”

“Healer? Forget it. I might die and not know the reason until the end.” Lana gave a bitter smile.

Though she had put up a brave front, only she knew that she wasn’t crying because Mr. Crow was with her.

Her rule for crying was simple. She can cry in front of a stranger but not a familiar person!

Strangers hardly cared, while those related to her felt heartache. However… Mr. Crow was a completely different case.

He might mock her for crying over an injury, and hence Lana sucked it up.

“Your body condition has deteriorated.” Mr. Crow schooled his expression into a neutral one, but his concerned tone gave him away.

The slam was powerful; he had checked Lana’s condition and realized that her rib was fractured, causing Lana to have difficulty breathing every single time.

There was also a head injury that was causing Lana to feel dizzy.

If not treated by the healers on time, her condition may worsen.

“I know, but the Almond family might have blocked all my paths long ago.” Bitterness seeped from her words.

The trouble of her past life had taught Lana some very harsh lessons.

Mr. Crow stared at Lana in worry. What he couldn’t understand was… how can Lana not cry with so many injuries?

If Lana could have heard Mr. Crow’s inner words, she would have shouted that it was because of him.

The driver stared at Lana with bewilderment; from her condition, going to the hospital was a wise choice, but what if Lana wanted to return to the temple?
