While Eren gave a clear order in his head, he still whispered it aloud, just to be sure. Instinct told him he didn’t need his mouth at all, that thinking it would be enough.

In an instant, colorful text appeared before his eyes. It looked like a small, simple character panel from RPG games.

Even with the panel floating in the air, Eren could still look around. If he didn’t focus on the text, he could move through daily life with the profile window hanging open like it wasn’t even there.

He pushed them aside, like he’d pushed aside all the others.

Still, his eyes kept drifting back to the parts marked “level” and “Evon Points +”.

A relaxed expression settled over his face, followed by a wide smile he hadn’t worn in a long time.

“Honestly,” he muttered, “I would’ve regretted it if I’d been afraid of that door and didn’t cross. I’m glad I didn’t hesitate.”

He knew the portal door in his bedroom had closed seconds after he passed through. Something inside him insisted he wouldn’t have been able to open it a second time, that if he hadn’t taken that tiny window of opportunity, the chance would’ve been gone.

He didn’t know why he was so sure.

He just was.

So while Emily did whatever she was doing in her bedroom, Eren kept staring at his profile page, fighting not to cry from sheer excitement.

My family has lived in the same city for generations. We haven’t even poked our noses out of this place since the 1800s.

Emily only smiled. She raised her hand, then made a cutting motion through the air with her smooth, white index finger, so clean and casual it almost looked playful. There was a vague ripple in the air, a thin disturbance of wind, though Eren wasn’t completely sure.

“It’s the classic Wind Blades spell. First Evolution League Skill. Mine is Level 9 but there are others with higher levels.” She looked proud to have it level 9.

“Every creature is different and uses different elements or spells,” she said. “Although I have the chance to learn more powerful spells, I personally like this simple wind spell. And the answer is yes, we can use mana and spells if we learn them.”

Eren crouched to examine the tiny cut that had formed in the soil. Admiration sat plainly on his face.

Sorcerers are just as cool as I expected.

“So how can I have mana?”

Emily frowned slightly, like she’d forgotten something for a long time and only just remembered it.

“Actually, having mana is a matter of luck. Elves are naturally a race prone to nature and magic. At least my mother always said so. That’s why almost all elves have mana as they are born. Even if we don’t level up and stay at level 0, we are born with the ability to use mana.”

Her voice softened a little.

“But things are a bit complicated for other races….”

Emily looked at the person who came from another world with real sincerity.

“You’re level 0, right? When you’re at level 1, if you don’t get the ’mana’ part that you can improve with Evon points, then your body isn’t suitable for using mana.”

Hearing that, Eren didn’t look very hopeful. He knew he wasn’t good at anything that relied on luck.

Eren looked at Emily, eyes wide. “How can I level up immediately? I need to know about my mana situation.”

He expected Emily to object, maybe point at the setting sun and tell him to wait until tomorrow morning. Instead, the cheerful woman simply took his hand and pulled him toward the street.

She didn’t hesitate. She didn’t even ask why. It was like his request was nothing.

They started walking toward a part of the village they’d never been to. Watching how calm she was, Eren began to believe it really might not be that hard to level up.

“There are a few weak creatures on this side that I brought from the forest for children to play,” Emily said. “We usually lock them in the same place in the evening so they don’t cause trouble at night.”

She glanced back at him, still smiling.

“Leveling up in there will be a piece of cake.”

Eren had studied every inch of Emily’s entire body before. He didn’t think there was anything left he hadn’t seen in the last two hours.

Then she pulled a long, thin knife from her waist and that shocked him once again.

From where?

Even with that sweet, innocent smile, the way she slid the knife out of its leather hilt was frightening. Emily looked at him, then tossed the extremely sharp blade into his hand.

“Leveling up is such an easy and fun thing to do. I’m sure you’ll love it too…”

Eren sighed as Emily walked ahead with a big smile.

For some reason, I don’t agree that I will love it very much.
