Chapter 77: Ch:77 Pouch, PzzZap!
…
The sun dipped toward dusk, smearing the sky with orange and drifting purplish clouds.
“Bye… Daniel,” Jessica said, waving her hand from the gate.
He smiled and turned away. “Bye, Aunt. I’ll come home soon, so you won’t have to… and thanks for the food.”
Daniel strolled down the stone path, cradling a small clay pot brimming with frinto fish curry. The frinto fish, common in the southern district, boasted few pin bones and a striking silver skin etched with dark, bold streaks.
’Hmm… what things should I keep in my pouch after I upgrade it?’ he murmured to himself. ’I think for now it’s better to store some Food, money, the book and my beautiful dagger I got from the dungeon.’
His forehead burned hot for a moment as the near-death scrape flooded back.
’Should I ask master Marco about him? But… how can I believe that he’s telling me the truth? Agh, wish I have that mask for an evidence or something,’ he muttered, glancing ahead.
A few moments later, he reached his rented home and climbed the stairs carefully, steadying the brimming curry pot to avoid a spill. He set it on the table, then stepped out to the backyard.
Good, my landlady isn’t here. Let’s upgrade it before she arrives, he thought, scanning the area.
Daniel dropped into a squat and traced the pattern in the sand with his index finger. The pattern was difficult to recall, forcing him to pull out his grimbook and redraw it once again.
…
“Hope it works,” he murmured, eyes fixed on the final result.
It lacked the accuracy of the given diagram, yet it was still usable.
“Veiliquandè mikora jim bos ariqueisà” said Daniel.
Instantly, the sand around it surged toward the pouch, clinging together as it slowly formed a small, circular dome. Black smoke seeped from its edges, fading from dark to grey, then finally to white. A hand burst out from within, lifting the pouch upright—ready to be claimed.
The moment his fingers touched it, the sand collapsed, crumbling away and burying the lines he had traced.
Daniel pulled the dagger from the pouch and glanced around for a moment before sliding it back inside.
“Hm… the pouch looks a little solid then before,” he whispered, studying it.
He walked to his room and shoved in the biscuits he’d bought from the bakery—it went in smoothly. Then he emptied all his coins into the pouch.
Coppers: 152
Silver: 30
Gold: 4
The pouch swallowed them whole.
“Damn… I feel like it could swallow even more,” he murmured, a hint of excitement creeping into his voice.
…
*Chik-Chik-Chik*
“Agh… this flint and steel always takes time to catch, and they don’t even have things like matchsticks or gas lighter,” he murmured, irritation flickering across his face as he glanced at the earthen stove.
*Chik-Chik*
Frustrated, he paused and glanced at the chopped wood in the stove. Three clay mounds formed the stove, arranged in a triangle, with wood chips and char cloth packed between them.
“Wait a second… why do I even need a flint, when I weild the element of thunder,” he said extending his right hand.
He picked up a fist-sized piece of wood and focused on his right hand. Slowly, heat built up along his arm as white particles gathered in his palm, crackling into sparks.
*Bzz~ Bzz~*
The wood ignited from the inside out, fire trails crawling across its surface, branching like lightning splitting a tree.
“Hehe… why didn’t I even thought about this in the beginning. It’s so easy to ignite now,” he said, placing the wood into the earthen stove.
*Bzz~ Bzz~*
Daniel glanced at his right hand, white particles still gathering and crackling into sparks.
“What? Turn off…” said Daniel, his eyes narrowed.
The sparks slowly condensed into a small ball, then swelled to the size of his fist. He felt the tension in the energy—it was ready to be released.
A lightning ball.
“Fuck, what do I do?!” he muttered, his gaze snapping to the window beside his table.
Suddenly, the lightning ball shot forward—only to slam into the edge of the wooden table.
*Boom*
The table’s edge broke with force, that make the table shiver from the impact. The impact sound echoed in the room.
“Oh fuck! The table!” he muttered, jumping to his feet and rushing to inspect it.
The table’s edge was shattered, blackened with char. A broken piece had fallen into the corner. He picked it up and felt it in his palm—still warm, the wood cracked and brittle.
…
The next morning ( Early )
*Thud*
Daniel locked the door and stepped outside. Esmeralda was sweeping the ground near the gate. He headed toward it, ready for his training.
“Hm! Good morning, young man,” she said with a warm smile.
Daniel smiled. “Good morning, lady Esma”
“By the way, what was that noise I heard upstairs last night?” Esmeralda added, stopping where she stood.
Daniel glanced around nervously, rubbing the back of his neck. “Ugh… I… umm broke the clay pot yesterday.”
“Oh, really?” she asked.
“Yes, um… Lady Esma, I’d love to talk more, but I’m getting late for training,” he said, then started jogging away.
“Have a great day, young man,” she replied with a warm smile.
“Haah… I wonder what her reaction would be if she saw the broken table,” he murmured.
Daniel jogged toward the town center and saw many people wearing yellow ponchos like his. He approached calmly, blending into the group.
“Didn’t you heard what happened yesterday?” said Molex.
Zenim shook his head. “No.”
“I heard from the town elders that the royal guards spotted two Niharin’s yesterday,” Molex said, crossing his arms.
“What! Seriously?”
“Yes.”
Daniel glanced over at them and listened carefully to their words. ’Are they taking about me? Wait, what are they even talking about?”
“Umm… what is that Niharin thing you mentioned, Molex?” Daniel asked with a confused expression.
Zenim and Molex turned their gazes towards him.
“What? You seriously don’t know what Niharin is?” Zenim said, his eyes widening in surprise.
Daniel shook his head. “No…”
