Chapter 84: Ch:84 Spar with Bernard
The next morning ( Early )
*Thud-Thud-Thud-Thud*
“Haah… not again!”
*Zap!*
“Ahh!” Daniel screamed, bolting forward.
All the shamans were ordered to complete thirty rounds. Marco made it clear that today’s training would be brutal—his goal was to force every one of them to master the First Form through relentless repetition.
*Zap!*
“Ahh!” Zushio screamed.
Marco stood at the center, unleashing lightning zaps at his whim. This time, he didn’t strike the one lagging at the back—he struck anyone who slowed down, even for a heartbeat.
…
After half an hour of warm-up, they made their way toward the center, rubbing their arms as they gathered around Marco in a loose semicircle
“Students I know, you all are excited to master the first form,” Marco said, his voice brimming with excitement.
A few nodded weakly. The rest offered no response, focused on soothing their sore, trembling arms.
“So I brought you this.” said Marco.
*Clap-Clap*
He clapped and raised his hand toward the wagon. Two figures in black robes stepped forward, carrying a quarterstaff. Marco had brought the wagon with him early that morning.
Each of them was handed a quarterstaff—but it was far from ordinary.
Crafted from dense redwood infused with mana, its durability surpassed anything they had handled before. The ends were fully capped in copper, making the staff highly reactive to thunder.
“Students, just like last time. We are going for another one on one spar,” Marco announced.
The shamans glanced at one another. Daniel caught Bernard’s eye and froze for a second. Bernard was already glaring at him, a death stare heavy with unfinished business, as if their last duel still hadn’t ended.
Marco then assigned the pairs, deliberately mixing them—though he intentionally matched Daniel with Bernard.
’No matter who win or lose, it’s a win win situation for me. I’ll show others that my teachings is the best and my students will be the living proof of it,’ Marco thought, smirking inwardly.
Before the spar began, Marco laid out the rules. They were simple—strikes were limited to the arms, and there were no restrictions on magic. That meant thunderbolts were fair game.
“Hope you can entertain me for a minute,” Bernard said teasingly.
Daniel smirked and pointed his staff toward him. “We will see.”
Meanwhile, another wagon rolled into the training ground, It carried Belinda, their healer.
Marco had told her in advance that he would need her healing abilities for the students, and the spar would not begin until she arrived.
“Students, I want you all to fight like your lives depend on it. I want everyone not to give up until your bodies give up on their own, and don’t concern yourselves with injury. Understood, everyone?” Marco said, his voice commanding.
“Yes! Master!” They shouted in unison.
Belinda, meanwhile, stepped down from the wagon. Beside her, a black-robed figure dismounted as well. Marco turned his gaze back to the students, a smile curling on his lips as he began the countdown.
“Three!” Marco shouted.
’Hehe… Daniel. Today I’ll make you pay for what you did to me last time,’ Bernard thought, gripping his staff tightly.
“Two!”
*BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!*
Suddenly, the wagons were destroyed in seconds. Two armored knights were sent flying, crashing to the ground in a heap—injured, their screams echoing across the training ground.
Everyone froze in their tracks, scanning their surroundings. In the distance, bushes began to tremble. Flickers of blue tails slipped into view, swaying through the leaves. One faravark emerged slowly—then another followed from behind.
’Why these creatures again,’ Marco thought, his jaw clenched tight. ’I should’ve chased down and killed the last Niharin.’
In an instant, another energy blast shot toward Belinda—but Marco intercepted it, blocking the attack before it even crossed half the distance.
“Belinda heal the injured quick,” Marco barked, his eyes sharp with focus. “Guards behind the youngsters, move!”
The two remaining guards obeyed at once, hurrying toward the center. Meanwhile, Belinda was already at work—gathering grass into a sphere with her ability.
A soft green glow pulsed from within the ball.
“Earath florea rejuvena” she chanted, hurling the glowing sphere toward the injured guards.
When it landed near them, the sphere burst open, revealing a glowing green plant that spread in a circular radius, healing the guards within it.
Marco bolted toward the jungle like a thunderbolt, meeting their attacks head-on and buying time for the others to recover.
“Status,” Daniel whispered.
——————
Name: Faravark

{ Temporary buff: 20% Damage increased [ 2m19s ] }
——————
’What?! Damage increase? But how?’ he muttered, eyes fixed on them.
“Agh… not again. I don’t want to die,” Molex murmured, fear creeping into his voice.
*BZZRRTT-FWOOMSH-BOOM!*
Bernard hurled a thunderbolt toward the far northern bushes. It tore through the foliage and struck a faravark hidden within. An animal’s scream echoed through the jungle.
“Bernard!” Jerald shouted, his eyes wide. “What do you think you’re doing?!”
Bernard glanced at him. “Something we should all do instead of standing like a statue.”
Jerald’s words died in his throat as he tried to respond. Around them, the other shamans had heard Bernard—and slowly looked down at their palms.
“Look at Master Marco, he is out there alone protecting us from the… I dont know the name but my point is why aren’t we doing anything when we can shoot thunder from our palms?”
A moment of silence settled over the shamans. Belinda stood some distance away, already forming another glowing sphere in her palm, while an armored knight guarded her with shield and spear.
Another guard stood beside the young shamans, ready to intercept any incoming attack. Marco was fully engaged on the eastern flank, striking at the faravarks as they began to form a pack.
“I think you’re right, Bernard,” Tridon added. “We can’t just sit here and wait for out death. I didn’t choose to become a shaman just to stand by and watch.”
*BZZZRRTT! FWOSH! BOOM!*
Tridon fired a thunderbolt toward the north. It narrowly missed a faravark as the creature veered east
“Me too… I can’t sit here and simply watch when everyone else is fighting,” Pise added, his eyes burning with confidence and courage.
’Shit, they don’t even know who they’re messing with,’ Daniel thought, glancing at his comrades.
