“Don’t slander me in front of my students,” Kitazawa teased, waving her toward the kitchen. “Go bring out the rest of the dishes.”

She rose with a sigh, but as soon as she stepped into the kitchen, Kitazawa caught her by the waist.

Kurenai gasped—then flushed as his hand came down in two sharp slaps against her curves.

“This is your punishment for slandering me.” He murmured, rubbing the sting away.

“You—!” She bit him on the neck in retaliation, leaving behind a faint mark.

“I wasn’t slandering you. Everything I said was true,” she huffed, cheeks red.

“I’ll deal with you tonight,” Kitazawa promised, lifting a plate of food.

Her heart skipped. She turned away quickly, but a smile tugged at her lips as she followed him back to the table.

Over dinner, Kitazawa announced, “Next Saturday, we’ll take on a high-difficulty mission. Be here at nine sharp.”

“You haven’t chosen already?” Kurenai frowned softly. “For something that difficult, you should secure the mission in advance and study the intel.”

Kitazawa leaned into her, his touch gliding from thigh to waist.

“It’s still early,” she whispered, shivering.

He kissed her neck. She tilted her head, unfastened the top buttons of her qipao, and let his lips linger.

Her ruby eyes misted over as she trembled beneath his hands, lips parting, legs pressing together.

Tsunade froze, then clenched her fists. “Fine. Then we strike directly at Shigaraki’s base first. Secure the evidence—and the witnesses. Then we’ll see Hiruzen.”

Her voice was sharp as steel. This time, there would be no escape for Danzo.

“Have Shizune-senpai inform Hokage-sama,” Kitazawa said firmly.

“Alright,” Tsunade replied, raising a brow. She understood his intent and nodded.

“Itachi, lead the way,” Kitazawa ordered. “We’ll move now.”

“Follow me.” Without hesitation, Itachi rose to his feet.

After a quick word with Shizune, the three of them headed straight for Shigaraki’s experimental base. Because the research involved Hashirama’s cells, the facility had been hidden deep in the northern Forest of Death, far from the village.

It took them barely five minutes at full speed to reach the valley.

“Itachi, you go first. Secure Shigaraki—he’s the priority. Do not let him escape.”

“I understand.” Itachi slipped ahead, vanishing into the shadows of the base.

Kitazawa’s eyes swept the quiet valley, his voice low. “Once we make our move, Danzo will send reinforcements quickly.”

The true entrance was carved into the valley wall, leading to the underground lab.

“And what if even he comes himself?” Tsunade asked, her eyes narrowing, her aura radiating defiance.

Kitazawa gave her a faint smile. “As expected of Lady Tsunade… but battles always spill blood. If it comes to that, stay behind me.”

Tsunade froze for an instant. Relying on others was foreign to her.

“Hmph. Just make sure you don’t get yourself killed,” she muttered, pouting slightly.

Kitazawa only thought, Why be tsundere at a time like this?

“Enough talk. Let’s go.” Tsunade broke eye contact and strode into the valley.

Two Root operatives blocked their path.

“Stop!”

“”HAA!!!””

In perfect unison, Tsunade and Kitazawa unleashed devastating punches. The ground cracked, shockwaves howled, and both Root ninja were sent flying before they could even react.

“You’ve improved fast,” Tsunade remarked, surprise flickering in her eyes. She had held back, using only half her power, yet Kitazawa’s strike had been almost as devastating.

“It’s all thanks to Lady Tsunade’s teaching,” he replied with a grin.

Tsunade quickly spotted the entrance and strode forward, but Kitazawa stepped ahead of her. “I’ll go first.”

She hesitated, words catching in her throat, then fell silent.

As soon as they cleared the passage, four more Root operatives emerged from both sides.

“Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet!” Kitazawa roared, forming seals and unleashing a massive dragon of water.

But Root weren’t ordinary ninja—they were hardened, special jōnin at minimum. An earth wall rose instantly, blocking the torrent. Another charged straight at Kitazawa with blinding speed.

The moment their eyes met, Kitazawa cast his genjutsu. The man froze in terror.

Even Tsunade was briefly taken aback but quickly understood—Kitazawa was too well-rounded. Genjutsu, Kenjutsu, Water Release, Rasengan, and raw strength. His versatility gave him a lethal edge in the opening strike. Unless facing a Sannin-level opponent, few could withstand him.

“Water Dragon Bullet!” Another dragon surged forward.

The Root ninja responded. One vanished into thin air, while the other formed seals.

“Earth Release: Earth Dragon Bullet!” A colossal earthen maw spat mud bullets relentlessly.

Kitazawa ignored it.

“Left,” Tsunade suddenly warned.

“Wind Release: Shuriken!” Kitazawa hurled a chakra-infused shuriken, striking the hidden enemy in the shoulder. Blood sprayed as the man was hurled back.

Kitazawa immediately raised an earth wall before Tsunade.

She exhaled in relief—until she noticed the carving on the wall.

The visages of the Four Hokage stared back.

“…Really?” she muttered, remembering how Kakashi’s earth wall featured dog heads. Kitazawa’s little flair was almost ridiculous.

“Leaf-Style Body Flicker!” In a blur of scattering leaves, Kitazawa appeared above the final Root ninja.

He brought his blade down in a brutal arc. The Root ninja tried to block with a kunai—too late. The kunai snapped in half, and blood sprayed as Kitazawa’s blade carved into his flesh. Carefully avoiding vital points, he ensured the man only looked fatally wounded.

Before Kitazawa could breathe, a furious voice tore through the underground chamber.

“Tsunade!”

Danzo stormed into the base, rage twisting his face.
