Koneko’s heart sank a little as she remembered the bet. Before the Rating Game, Alex had tried to convince her to tap into her Neko power, the ability that she had always feared and rejected. He believed it could be the key to her growth, both in strength and in overcoming her inner demons. But Koneko had vehemently refused, shutting down the conversation before it could even begin.

Alex, however, wasn’t one to give up easily. He had proposed a bet—a simple one: if she could last until the end of the Rating Game without being taken down, she wouldn’t have to listen to him about using her Neko power or discussing her sister. But if she didn’t, then she would have to hear him out, no arguments.

Koneko had accepted, confident in her abilities. But now, she was faced with the reality of her defeat.

She sighed softly, looking down at her hands. “I couldn’t hold out,” she admitted quietly. There was a hint of regret in her voice, not just for losing the bet, but for letting herself down.

Alex’s expression softened, and he knelt down beside her. “Koneko-chan, you did your best,” he said gently. “This isn’t about winning or losing. It’s about helping you realize your potential, about facing the things you’re afraid of.”

Koneko bit her lip, her emotions swirling inside her. She didn’t want to face her Neko side, didn’t want to think about the past or her sister. But she knew Alex wasn’t going to push her just for the sake of it. He genuinely cared about her, wanted to help her grow stronger—not just in battle, but within herself.

“You promised,” Alex reminded her softly. “You agreed to hear me out.”

Koneko nodded slowly, unable to argue. A part of her knew that Alex was right, that perhaps it was time to confront the things she had been running from. But another part of her, the one still wounded from past experiences, was reluctant.

“Okay,” she finally whispered. “I’ll listen.”

Alex smiled, relieved and proud of her for taking this step. “That’s all I ask, Koneko-chan.”
