Chapter 246 – 246: In Nazarick

Albedo stood in the Throne Room of Nazarick, her golden eyes fixated on the empty throne before her. She let out a deep sigh, the sound echoing through the grand hall. It had been two days since her lord and husband, Alexander, had departed for what he called the “Demon Slayer World.”

Despite their efforts, a permanent portal to his location hasn’t been established.

Albedo wasn’t worried about Alexander’s safety—how could she be? Her lord was a being far beyond even the concept of mortality. Nothing in that world could truly harm him. However, her concerns lay elsewhere: Shalltear and Lupusregina, two of her lord’s loyal subordinates who had accompanied him. Their absence gnawed at her nerves for different reasons.

Everyone in Nazarick knew that Albedo was Alexander’s lawful second wife, a position of honor that none dared challenge. Lady Death, of course, held the title of the first wife, an immutable fact that even Albedo respected.

Yet Shalltear, ever stubborn and defiant, refused to acknowledge this hierarchy. Instead, the vampire considered herself the second wife, dismissing Albedo’s claim outright.

The rivalry between them was as unyielding as it was exhausting. Even though the three of them had shared a bed on several occasions—intimacy orchestrated by their lord in an attempt to foster harmony—the tension between Albedo and Shalltear had never truly subsided.

Albedo’s black-tipped wings twitched irritably at the memory of Shalltear’s smug smirk during their last shared night. The nerve of that undead brat, Albedo thought, clenching her fists.

Still, she couldn’t completely fault Shalltear for her devotion. Her love for Alexander was genuine, as was her unwavering loyalty. But Albedo would never relinquish her rightful place at his side.

She had earned that position through her dedication, her unwavering faith, and, above all, the love she shared with her lord. Shalltear’s antics were little more than the immature tantrums of a child compared to the depth of their bond.

Her thoughts then drifted to the other women in her lord’s life—the lovers from the High School DxD world. Albedo had initially seen them as threats, especially Rias Gremory and Serafall Leviathan.

Their youthful beauty and deep emotional ties to Alexander had made Albedo wary. However, over time, she had come to realize something important: none of them held the qualifications to rival her position.

They adored Alexander, yes, but they were still bound by the limitations of their mortal minds and lives. None could match the eternity she had pledged to him.

Still, that didn’t mean she was entirely at ease. There was always the chance that one of them might rise above the others, gaining favor in ways Albedo had not yet anticipated. The thought made her wings tremble again, this time with barely suppressed frustration.

Her musings were interrupted by a soft knock on the Throne Room doors.

“Come in,” she called, her voice regaining its usual calm and commanding tone.

The doors opened to reveal Yuri Alpha, one of the Pleiades battle maids. Yuri’s calm and composed demeanor mirrored Albedo’s, making her a welcome presence in moments like this.

“Lady Albedo,” Yuri said with a respectful bow. “It seems Lady Serafall wishes to meet him if he has come back.”

In another part of Nazarick, the other guardians were gathered for a meeting. Cocytus, Aura, and Mare were discussing plans for strengthening Nazarick’s defenses in Alex’s absence. Demiurge, as always, was meticulously plotting contingencies for any possible scenario that might arise. Even with Alex away, the guardians were determined to operate at peak efficiency.

“Albedo-sama seems… tense,” Aura remarked, leaning back in her chair with her arms crossed.

“She is worried about Lord Alex, though she would never admit it,” Demiurge replied, his sharp glasses glinting under the light. “Of course, she hides it well, but it’s clear to those who know her.”

“It’s not Lord Alex she’s worried about,” Cocytus rumbled, his deep, resonant voice echoing through the chamber. “It’s Shalltear and Lupusregina.”

Aura smirked, her fangs peeking through her grin. “You think Albedo is afraid they’ll mess up? Or maybe she’s worried they’ll get too close to Lord Alex?”

Mare fidgeted nervously beside her sister, glancing at the others. “Shalltear-san always… um, pushes Albedo-sama buttons. Do you think they’ll fight when Lord Alex returns?”

Demiurge adjusted his glasses, a knowing smile on his face. “While Albedo’s anger is understandable, it is unlikely she would act rashly without our lord’s permission. Still, it will be… interesting to see how the dynamic evolves upon their return.”

Demiurge continues, “On another note, Lord Alex’s current location—this ‘Demon Slayer’ world—piques my interest. From the information we’ve gathered, it seems to be a world of unique combat techniques and supernatural abilities.”

With that, Demiurge explained the specialities of the current world Alex was staying in. Of course, the information was from Alex himself.
