The Yoshiwara district shimmered under the pale moonlight, its streets alive with the chatter of customers and courtesans. Lanterns flickered along the rooftops, casting long shadows across the narrow alleys.

The scent of perfume and sake filled the air, masking the underlying tension that only a few could sense. Amidst the lively atmosphere, hidden in the darkness above, a lone figure observed the streets below with sharp, calculating eyes.

A tall and curvaceous woman with lime green eyes with a dark orange center, long eyelashes, and very pale skin. She had a pink obi with black hexagon patterns on all of it, along with a light blue flower with a darker center and light orange three-length lines on it wrapped around her waist.

Daki stood gracefully on the rooftop of one of the finest establishments in the district, her expression unreadable. The faint wind tugged at her flowing white hair, and the silk of her kimono rustled slightly. However, she paid no mind to the beauty of the night. Her thoughts were occupied elsewhere.

“So… the man called Alex and that girl who attacked us before are here,” she murmured to herself, her crimson eyes narrowing.

She had not forgotten. She would never forget.

The memory of that day still haunted her. Shalltear, the monstrous girl who had descended upon them like death itself, had torn through the Upper Moons with terrifying ease. Daki could still remember the fear—how her body had refused to move, how her instincts had screamed at her to run.

And then there was him.

Alex.

Unlike Shalltear, he had not fought. He had simply appeared, and with a single command, the bloodthirsty girl had stopped her rampage. Then, as if the destruction meant nothing to him, he had vanished.

Daki had spent centuries serving under Lady Muzanette. She had witnessed power beyond human comprehension. But there was something different about him. Something unnatural.

After they had left, Muzanette’s obsession with Alex had grown. Though she had never explained why, it was clear that he was important to her. As some of that obsession is also affecting her.

Daki didn’t care for the specifics—she had no intention of challenging her mistress’s will—but now that he had returned to Yoshiwara, she couldn’t ignore the implications.

Her fingers curled slightly, her sharp nails pressing against the fabric of her kimono.

“Did they come here because of you?” She murmured, turning her gaze toward a dimly lit storage room below.

Inside, three women sat bound, their arms restrained by thick ropes. Despite their situation, their expressions were filled with defiance rather than fear.

Makio, Suma, and Hinatsuru—wives of Tengen Uzui, the Sound Hashira.

Daki descended from the rooftop with effortless grace, landing in the room without making a sound. The three kunoichi stiffened at her presence, their eyes watching her every movement.

Daki’s lips curled into a smirk as she approached them, the soft click of her geta sandals echoing in the silence. “It’s funny,” she mused. “I’ve been waiting for demon slayers to arrive, but I didn’t expect their women to be so… fragile.”

Makio glared at her, her fiery temper barely contained. “Say that again and I’ll rip your throat out.”

Daki laughed, covering her mouth with delicate fingers. “Oh? You’re quite spirited for someone in your position. But tell me…” She crouched slightly, bringing her face closer to Makio’s. “Are you so confident because he is here?”

Makio’s expression darkened, but she didn’t respond.

Hinatsuru, however, remained calm. “If demon slayers are in Yoshiwara, it only means one thing,” she said evenly. “Our husband has come.”

Daki raised an eyebrow. “So, it’s true then. The Sound Hashira is here.”

Makio, Suma, and Hinatsuru exchanged glances. They had not seen their husband yet, but if the demons were acting this cautiously, it confirmed what they already suspected.

Daki smirked. “Tengen Uzui… I’ve heard of him. The flashy one, right? Does he really think he can defeat me

?”

Makio pulled against her restraints. “If he’s here, you’re finished.”

Daki’s smile didn’t waver, but her eyes darkened. “You demon slayers are all the same. Always thinking your swords can change fate. How foolish.”

Hinatsuru studied her captor carefully. Daki’s arrogance was clear, but there was something else—an unease beneath her confident exterior.

“You’re tense,” Hinatsuru observed. “If you’re so sure of your strength, why are you on edge?”

Daki’s smirk faltered for a fraction of a second.

Makio and Suma looked at Hinatsuru in surprise. Daki, however, straightened and let out a small chuckle. “You think you’re clever, don’t you?” she said. “I’m not nervous. I’m simply prepared.”

Makio scoffed. “For what? Uzui?”

Daki’s smile disappeared entirely. “No.” She turned away, her gaze fixed on the city beyond the storage room’s small window.

“Then for whom?” Hinatsuru pressed.

Daki was silent for a moment. Then, in a low voice, she said, “Alex.”

The three kunoichi frowned. They had never heard that name before.

“Who is he?” Makio demanded.

Daki glanced at them, her expression unreadable. “A man you don’t want to meet.”

Makio narrowed her eyes. “If he’s an enemy of yours, then maybe we do want to meet him.”

Daki’s grip on her sash tightened. “He’s not like your pathetic Hashira. He nothing like you pathetic human.” she said.

Muzanette’s obsession is affecting me. Daki thought.

Suma shivered at the way Daki spoke his name. There was something wrong with the way she described him.

“You’re afraid of him, or do you have a crush on him.” Hinatsuru stated.

Daki shot her a glare but didn’t deny it.

Silence filled the room for a moment. Then, Makio smirked. “Good.”

Daki’s eye twitched. “You should be very careful about what you find amusing,” she warned.

Daki turned away from them and moved toward the door. “You should pray your husband finds you before I get bored,” she said over her shoulder. “Otherwise, you’ll be spending your last moments watching me tear him apart.”

She disappeared into the darkness, leaving the three kunoichi alone with their thoughts.

Hinatsuru exhaled slowly. “So… we now know there’s another player in this game.”

Makio clenched her jaw. “Whoever this ’Alex’ is, we need to find out fast.”

Suma swallowed hard, dread creeping up her spine.

Because if a demon is as arrogant as Daki was afraid of him…

Then just what kind of monster was lurking in Yoshiwara tonight?
