Chapter 131: Traveling Together Makes The Journey Fun
Unlike when they were leaving Komen, the horsemen took a much more leisurely approach toward the crystal spire.
This was their first time in Belistra. They wanted to take in the sights as much as they could, despite knowing that they weren’t here for tourism.
…Or for dates, for that matter.
“Mon trésor! Look!”
Yari hopped off Mercy’s back and rushed over to the side of the road.
Solomon clicked his teeth, and the horse stopped, allowing him to hop down and join her.
The beautiful elf pulled down her veil and headscarf as she leaned close to a glowing plant.
It was surrounded by small, glowing humanoids with wings almost too big for their bodies. Pixies.
Pixies were known to pull hair, steal, and cause all sorts of mischief. But some are safe from their harm.
Those who they find to be physically beautiful.
“Pretty…”
“Pretty…”
“So pretty…”
The voices of the small creatures come out as child-like whispers. Yari smiled at the little ones, but they were not the object of her focus.
“Look here…” Yari gently touched the petals of a beautiful pink flower with a subtle, violet glow.
“I used to have one of these in my collection once, he was a rowdy little one I named Jameson… but is she not the most beautiful thing you have ever seen…?” She swooned.
Solomon gently tilted Yari’s chin toward him. “No… Not even close.”
The elf blushed deeply. And for a moment, it seemed as though she had lost all memory of what she was doing beforehand.
“The name you called me just now…. What does it mean?”
Yari blinked in surprise at herself. It seemed that, in her excitement, she had let a bit of her native tongue and jargon slip.
The fact that she had made such a mistake surprised her to no end. For all of these years, she had been keeping a rather tight lid on herself.
“Ah… It is a term of endearment.” Yari brought a hand to his cheek. “It means ’My treasure’.”
Solomon’s eyes showed an unwavering sentiment.
“You are… quite the woman, Yari Assata.”
For some reason, his words made Yari bite her lip and look away. Solomon initially believed that he may have said something wrong, but Yari’s next words disproved that entirely.
When she spoke, she had an underlying accent that turned her already intoxicating voice into an intangible drug.
“Yari Maelle de Sylvarre. That is my true name. Please take care to remember it, mon trésor.”
Solomon had been doing fairly well so far, but Yari’s last words had practically made her irresistible to him.
The world seemed to fade away as he leaned in close to her.
“If you guys start making out now, I am going to kill myself!”
The couple’s moment interrupted, Solomon turned back and glared at his brother while Yari hid her face within her veil.
“Don’t look at me like that, you big bastard. You guys have been doing cute shit since last night, and I’m sick of it!”
Dakota tilted her head. “Don’t you just mean that you’re jealous…?”
“Same thing!”
The riders continued their journey shortly afterward. With no more presumed threat of danger, Yari rode in front of Solomon while he held onto her from behind.
As they trotted along, Yari opened Eir’Vael’s journal and continued reading from where she had left off that morning. Now that the horses were no longer sprinting at over two hundred miles an hour, reading was much more feasible.
“Anything interesting?” Solomon asked, his lips grazing against Yari’s neck.
The elf nodded slowly.
“Your parent wrote a bit more on the stages of Will as they stand… It’s all rather interesting, but I’m afraid I don’t understand all of it.
Clarity rules the self. It allows one to become… absolute within their own soul?
The second stage, Conviction, is said to rule surroundings… but all of his notes on that are extremely vague. And he repeats this line a lot- ’What stands before me must yield.’
Sacrifice is said to be…Authority through cost. And the only other thing on it is that you should ’Pay what existence demands.’
And lastly, Embodiment is…”
Yari flipped back and forth between the multiple pages. Her brow was furrowed in frustration.
“There’s nothing on this either. It says authority through principle, but I…”
“It’s fine. I’m sure your sister and the queen will be able to explain anything we don’t understand.”
Yari calmed down momentarily. “Yes… and then after she explains why she has let me believe she was dead for twenty years, I will find a large lake to drown her in…!”
“W-What if she had a good reason, Auntie?!” Nila cried.
“Then I will only strike her in the breast and let bygones be bygones. I’m not unreasonable, dear.”
Nila looked like she was going to say something in protest, but at the last moment, she simply turned back to the road in front of her.
“Ah… I guess I understand then.”
For some reason, Everett, Solomon, and Dakota were all just a little bit more nervous now than they had been before.
The journey went by much faster on the mounts. But the time the sky of Belistra was turning from a pink paradise to a violet playground, they had already reached their presumed destination.
The crystal spire was then larger up close. The entire building seemed to be made entirely of diamond and was well over a hundred meters tall.
The spire was located inside a hidden inlet, surrounded by rocky walls that seemed to allow none near. The place was its own private oasis.
But just because because it seemed that way did not make it true.
Lying there in the grass around the spire were hundreds of fae bodies all engaged in whatever behaviors they found the most stimulating.
Dakota discreetly covered her eyes, feeling as though she was seeing too much. A sentiment shared by Nila and Solomon alike.
Only Everett seemed to be unfazed.
“You know what? This is a cool place.”
