Chapter 137: Gifts That Keep on Giving
Dinner was actually rather delicious. However, Dakota seemed to be the only one who was thinking solely about eating.
Nila and Everett were picking at their plates, eating in small bites so as not to disturb their deep thoughts.
Giselle and Yari were still staring at each other, and they hadn’t looked away for over ten minutes.
Lioraeth was busy drinking wine as she held Everett’s hand.
Leaving Solomon with no real idea of what he should do other than pray that there wouldn’t be another blow-up.
His wish was granted, though not in the manner in which he would have preferred.
For the first time since sitting down, Giselle looked away from Yari and instead glanced at the man who sat beside her.
“…Solomon, right..? You are the Albazian, the child of the Shaman King.”
“I am indeed.” He responded in a solemn voice.
“You seem to be… rather close to my sister. I have never known Yari to allow anyone to tend to her wounds as you did just now.”
“T-They’re sleeping together!” Nila blurted out.
“Nila!” Yari put down her fork.
“Forgive me, I was simply relieved that the conversation finally drifted to something I actually knew how to talk about!”
“T-They have a girlfriend too!” Everett added to the chaos. “Really rich! Really scary! She’s kinda nice though!”
“Brother!” Solomon snapped.
“Look, man, I’m dying here, I need a distraction!”
Dakota remained in her own little world. “Dinner is delicious…” she murmured.
Holding their heads, Yari and Solomon did not even bother to look up from the table again.
“I…I do not even know what to say.” Giselle was stunned.
“So don’t say anything.”
Yari looked toward Lioraeth instead of her sister.
“We didn’t come here to talk about relationship dynamics. We came here because Eir’Vael said that the two of you could help these four learn the power of Will.”
“I’m a little interested in relationship dynamics though… Is your third also younger than you, or are the two of you older women preying on this strapping young man?”
Yari’s scowl deepened.
“Fine, fine…” Lioraeth sighed. “Yes, Eir’Vael gave us instructions to help you learn will. Once you reach the first stage, there’s a trial exclusive to this realm that he believed would be perfect for you in order to help you understand yourselves.”
Dakota looked up with her lips slathered in steak sauce.
“So… What exactly is Will anyway..? A-And these necklaces you had made for us? How do they tie into all this??”
“When we put them on… we took something from Solomon, and now we are immortal like him.” Nila added.
Everett looked up abruptly. “Wait, you’re joking, right? How do you know that?!”
Nila hurled her steak-knife across the table. It sank right into her brother’s throat and caused his eyes to bulge out of his head.
He gagged, blood spilling past his lips as he ripped the knife out of his neck.
He started to fall onto the floor, but suddenly, he felt the hole in his neck begin to close up.
Blinking, he righted himself in his seat, his eyes wide in disbelief at his ability to survive such a grievous wound.
“…What the fuck?”
“I told you.” Nila picked up her steak with her hands and continued eating.
“How did you know we could do that?!”
“I cut my finger last night and it healed.”
“…So you immediately jumped to the conclusion that because you can heal a goddamn paper cut that we can suddenly survive knives to the neck!?”
“Eldest brother can.”
“Why didn’t you just cut your own damn finger off to prove a point then!? Why’d you take the risk on me!?”
Nila suddenly began chewing more slowly, her expression slightly shy. “…I have been trying to get better at long-range combat. I was practicing my knife throwing.”
“YOU USED ME FOR TARGET PRACTICE, YOU FUCKING NUTCASE!?!”
Curious, Solomon looked at the unused knife that sat beside his own plate.
He picked it up without a word and sliced open his palm.
His eyes narrowed as he watched the cut close up.
“…I’m healing slower than before. Something like that would have only taken me a second to fix yesterday. It took ten just now.”
Lioraeth nodded. “Mhm-mhm. The armors were designed with the knowledge that you, or Raizel, would come into contact with the amulet and become Disaster. They were made with materials collected from your father’s sealing grounds.
Because of who Eir’Vael was to them, the souls that dwelled inside the Yaksha can sense his touch and essence on materials from the Black Depths, and they respond in kind.
All of the souls that you carried inside of the Yaksha have been divided among you and your sublings. Just the same, the spirits have been relieved of their grudges. Their anger. They should have fully rested, knowing that you, their descendants, will avenge them.
As it is now, the power of their souls now enrich each of yours. It’ll strengthen you. Make you immortals.”
Lioraeth yawned as she began running her fingers through Everett’s hair. He didn’t bother to stop her, as he was too shocked by everything he had just learned.
“More than ten years of planning and consulting in order to make this all work…” She sighed.
“Billions of golden coins and precious jewels sent to necromancers, artisans, and genius mages alike… experimenting on the souls of different races, seeing what they responded to and how best to get reactions out of them… Some things were guesswork, I’ll admit. But I’m happy to see that things seemed to work out for the most part.”
Solomon’s pupils trembled as he brought a hand to his chest. There was something he felt like they were glossing over, but he had no way of knowing whether or not he was simply going insane.
“Wait… these things you made for us… Can they…?”
Lioraeth smiled at him. “Oh? Smart and handsome. I’m surprised you figured it out so quickly.”
“Figured what out?” Dakota asked as Yari wiped her face with a napkin.
Lioraeth showed her proudest smile yet.
“The armor we gave you all doubles as weapons. With them, you won’t just be able to protect yourselves. But if you all work together, then you can take back all of the souls that fuel the Yaksha of the other deathless. They will be powerless.”
