Chapter 82: Chapter 82: Riverfall Town (part 1)
Aiden raised an eyebrow.
“Yes?”
The knight straightened slightly.
“If you grant me permission…”
It glanced toward the window, where the faint silhouettes of skeleton soldiers could be seen moving through the streets.
“…I can lead your undead.”
Aiden blinked.
“Lead them?”
The knight nodded.
“Yes, my lord.”
“My kind retains fragments of battlefield instincts. I can give orders, coordinate movements, and direct them during patrols or combat.”
Aiden leaned against the table, clearly interested now.
“You mean you can command my skeleton soldiers?”
“Yes, my lord.”
The knight continued calmly.
“Your summoned undead will still obey you above all else. But if you allow it, I can organize them and give instructions to improve their efficiency.”
Aiden stared at the undead warrior for a moment.
Then he chuckled softly.
“Well, that’s actually pretty convenient.”
He waved his hand casually.
“Alright.”
“I give you permission.”
The Carrion Knight immediately bowed deeply.
“Thank you, my lord.”
It stood up fully now, its tall frame almost touching the ceiling. The heavy cleaver was lifted onto its shoulder as it turned toward the door.
Aiden watched it with mild curiosity.
“Let’s see how good you are,” he said.
The Carrion Knight walked out of the room with slow, heavy steps.
A few minutes later, Aiden heard movement outside in the courtyard.
Through the window, he saw the tall armored undead standing near the villa gate.
It raised one arm.
Skeleton soldiers immediately stopped their patrol and turned toward it.
The knight began giving silent hand signals.
Groups of skeletons started moving to new positions, some taking guard posts near the gates, others spreading across the outer streets of the town.
The bronze-grade undead also shifted their positions slightly, reinforcing key areas.
Within minutes, the previously scattered undead patrols became organized.
They moved like a disciplined army.
Aiden leaned against the window frame, watching everything unfold.
“…Not bad,” he muttered.
The town that once looked like chaotic ruins was slowly turning into something else.
The Carrion Knight stood near the main gate of the villa, occasionally raising a hand to redirect a patrol.
Everything looked… stable.
Aiden stretched his shoulders slightly.
“Not bad for the first night,” he muttered.
But after a moment, he felt the heaviness in his body.
He chuckled quietly.
“Right… I’m still human.”
Unlike the undead, he still needed rest. His body was tired from everything that had happened, fighting the bandits, attacking the Dustwind clan, wiping out the town, and dealing with the system all night.
He closed the system screen and walked toward the bed.
“Too bad, I still need to sleep.”
The large bed that once belonged to Roderic was surprisingly comfortable. The mattress sank slightly under his weight as he lay down.
Outside, skeleton soldiers continued their patrols, their bones clacking softly against the stone streets.
But inside the villa, everything was calm.
—-
Morning came quietly.
Soft gray light slipped through the curtains, illuminating the room.
Aiden slowly opened his eyes.
For a few seconds, he simply stared at the ceiling, still waking up.
Then he remembered everything.
The town.
The undead.
The system.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
“Well… that wasn’t a dream.”
He sat up and stretched his arms.
Before he could even stand up, there was a gentle knock on the door.
“Enter,” Aiden said.
The door slowly opened.
One of the wraith maids floated inside, bowing politely. Behind her, a zombie servant pushed a small wooden cart carrying food.
“My lord,” the wraith maid said softly. “Your breakfast is ready.”
He looked at the tray.
There was fresh bread, roasted meat, fruit, and even a small pot of tea.
The zombie servant placed the food on a small table near the window while the wraith maid poured tea.
Aiden walked over and sat down.
“Thank you,” he said casually.
The maid bowed again.
“It is our duty to serve you, my lord.”
Aiden didn’t say anything more and began eating.
The food was simple but good. After everything that had happened the night before, he realized he was actually quite hungry.
Within a few minutes, the plate was empty.
He leaned back slightly in the chair.
“Alright.”
He wiped his hands with a cloth and stood up.
“Let’s see how things are going.”
His first thought was about the Graveknit he had sent out the night before.
If the creature had done its job properly, he should already have some information about the surrounding area.
Aiden walked out of the room and into the hallway.
Several wraith maids floated past him, bowing politely as they continued their tasks.
Outside in the courtyard, skeleton soldiers were still patrolling under the command of the Carrion Knight.
Everything was quiet.
Aiden stepped into the courtyard and looked around.
“Where’s Graveknit?” he muttered.
Almost as if responding to his words, a strange stitched figure suddenly appeared near the villa gate.
The Graveknit had returned.
Its body looked slightly dusty from travel, but the black threads holding its bones together were still intact.
The moment it saw Aiden, it immediately walked forward and knelt.
“My lord.”
Aiden folded his arms.
The Graveknit lowered its head slightly.
“I have gathered information, as you ordered.”
Aiden nodded once.
“Good.”
He walked a little closer.
“Then give me your report.”
The Graveknit remained kneeling in front of Aiden, its stitched body slightly hunched as if showing respect.
“My lord,” it said.
Aiden stood in the courtyard with his arms crossed, listening quietly as the undead delivered its report.
“The closest settlement from here is a small town to the east,” the Graveknit continued. “It is about half a day’s travel by horse. The town is called Riverfall.”
Aiden narrowed his eyes slightly.
“Riverfall…”
The Graveknit nodded.
“It is smaller than this town, my lord. Their population should be around four hundred people.”
Aiden tapped his arm thoughtfully.
“And the warriors?”
“Approximately thirty to forty fighters. Most are ordinary guards. There are only four body tempering practitioners that I could detect.”
Aiden gave a small nod.
