Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Carrion In Action (part 2)
In just seconds, the skeleton stood up again.
The guard’s face went pale.
“What…?”
Behind him, another soldier whispered,
“They… they’re not dying…”
Panic spread through the ranks.
Meanwhile, outside the town, Aiden stood calmly, watching everything.
His eyes glowed faintly with necromantic energy.
“Let’s make this faster,” he muttered.
He raised his hand.
Dark energy spread from his body.
“Undead Reinforcement.”
A wave of power surged across the battlefield.
Inside the town, every undead suddenly moved faster.
Their strength increased.
Their bones hardened.
A skeleton swung its sword.
CLANG!
A guard’s shield shattered from the impact.
The man was thrown back, crashing into the ground.
Another skeleton stabbed forward, piercing straight through armor.
The tide began to shift instantly.
But Aiden wasn’t done.
He stepped forward slightly and pressed his hand toward the ground.
“Grave Calling.”
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then… The ground trembled.
Inside the town, beneath the feet of fallen guards and civilians.
Dark energy spread like roots through the soil.
Corpses began to move.
A dead soldier lying in the street suddenly twitched.
Then his fingers curled.
A guard nearby saw it and froze.
“N-no way…”
The corpse sat up, its eyes were empty. Its movements slow and unnatural. Then more bodies started rising.
One.
Five.
Ten.
Dozens.
The battlefield changed in an instant.
New undead began crawling out from the ground itself.
But these were different.
Their movements were weaker.
Slower.
Their bodies looked incomplete.
Aiden watched from outside and spoke quietly to himself.
“About thirty percent of their original strength…”
“Still good enough.”
Inside the town, a newly raised undead lunged at a guard.
The guard cut it down easily.
But another one grabbed his leg.
Then another.
“GET OFF ME—!”
He was dragged to the ground.
Screaming.
Surrounded.
The temporary undead might have been weak…
But there were too many.
From the watchtower, the Town Lord stared in horror.
His voice shook.
“This… this is insane…”
One of the remaining body tempering practitioners clenched his fists.
“My lord, we can’t keep up like this!”
“They just keep coming!”
Below them, the streets were already filled with fighting.
Skeletons, bronze-grade undead, and newly risen corpses flooded the town like a wave of death.
At the front of it all.
Carrion walked forward slowly.
Every step it took, soldiers backed away.
Some didn’t even dare approach it.
One guard dropped his weapon and turned to run.
“I can’t fight that thing!”
Fear had already taken over, and once fear spread… The battle was already lost.
Outside the walls of Stoneford, Aiden stood still with his hand pressed slightly forward, dark energy still leaking from his fingertips.
For nearly two minutes, the ground inside the town had been responding to his will.
Corpses rising.
Limbs twitching.
Dead soldiers clawing their way back into a second, twisted life.
But now.
He slowly lowered his hand.
The dark energy faded.
“…That’s enough.”
A faint exhale left his lips.
He could feel it clearly.
His mana had dropped sharply.
Much faster than when he maintained all his summons at once.
“Grave Calling really eats through mana,” he muttered.
He glanced toward the battlefield one last time.
Inside the town, the fight was already collapsing.
Guards were scattered.
Some were still trying to fight, but their formation was completely broken.
Others had already thrown down their weapons and were running for their lives.
The temporary undead he raised were weaker, sure, But they did their job.
They turned the battlefield into pure chaos.
And with Carrion and his bronze-grade undead pushing from the front…
There was no coming back from that.
Aiden gave a small nod to himself.
“The battle’s basically over.”
He turned around without hesitation.
No need to stay and watch the rest.
Behind him, the sounds of battle still echoed faintly, screams, metal clashing, bones cracking.
But to him, it was already finished.
Graveknit, who had been standing quietly nearby, stepped forward.
“My lord,” it said. “You are withdrawing?”
Aiden walked past it toward the carriage.
“Yeah.”
He stretched his shoulders slightly.
“I’ve done enough.”
Graveknit followed behind him.
“The enemy forces are collapsing,” it said calmly. “Victory is assured.”
Aiden opened the carriage door.
He stepped inside and sat down comfortably.
The moment Aiden sat down inside the carriage, he let out a slow breath.
“…That skill really drains a lot,” he muttered.
He leaned his head back against the seat, closing his eyes for a second.
For nearly two minutes, he had been constantly feeding mana into Grave Calling.
Raising corpses.
Forcing the dead to move again.
Over and over.
It wasn’t like maintaining his summons.
This was different.
Outside the carriage, the sounds of battle still echoed faintly.
But compared to earlier, it was already dying down.
Aiden opened his eyes and glanced toward the town in the distance.
Black smoke rose into the sky.
Figures moved across the walls, they’re undead, his undead.
“Looks like it’s the end…” he said quietly.
—-
After some time, the battle is finally over.
Graveknit took the reins of the carriage, its stitched body perfectly unmoving.
With a light pull, the horse began moving.
The carriage rolled forward, passing through the open gates of Stoneford.
Inside, the town looked completely different now.
Smoke drifted through the air.
Blood stained the streets.
Broken weapons and bodies were scattered everywhere.
Not a single living person remained.
Aiden sat quietly inside the carriage, watching through the window as they moved deeper into the town.
After some time. They reached the center, and the carriage came to a slow stop.
He stepped out, waiting for him were rows of bodies, nine of them.
All laid out neatly on the ground.
The body tempering practitioners of Stoneford.
Carrion stood nearby, its cleaver resting against its shoulder, completely still.
“My lord,” it said as Aiden approached. “The town has been cleared.”
Aiden gave a small nod.
“Good.”
His eyes moved toward the corpses.
“These are the nine?”
“Yes, my lord.”
Aiden stepped closer.
The Town Lord’s body was among them.
Even in death, the man still looked imposing.
Aiden crouched slightly.
“Let’s see how many I can get.”
He raised his hand.
Dark energy gathered around his palm.
“Lord of the Dead.”
The necromantic energy sank into the first corpse.
